Measles exposure possibleSUBURBAN LIFE MEDIA

CAROL STREAM – Potential ex-posure to measles may have occurredrecently at three locations in CarolStream and Bloomingdale.

While no DuPage County cases ofmeasles have been reported, the coun-ty health department is warning of pos-sible exposure at the following timesand locations:

• Advanced Pediatrics NeonatalMedicine, 473 W. Army Trail Road,Suite 103, Bloomingdale, from 2:30 to5:30 p.m. Jan. 26, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.Jan. 30 or 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 31.

• Hand and Stone Massage and Fa-cial Spa, 792 W. Army Trail Road, Car-ol Stream, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 6or 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 7.

• Customers at Jewel Osco, 750Army Trail Road, Carol Stream, from11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 6.

All three locations have remainedopen for business while working withthe DuPage County Health Departmentto identify possible contacts, accordingto a health department statement.

Several cases of measles have beenconfirmed in suburban Cook County.Health officials said it’s likely those in-dividuals have visited other areas innorthern Illinois.

The health department is urginganyone who potentially has been ex-posed and is showing symptoms of fe-ver, cough, runny nose and red eyes, with or without rash, to call a health-care provider. Those individualsshould call ahead so the healthcarestaff can take appropriate precautions.

What are measles? A highly con-tagious respiratory disease, measlescan cause severe health complica-tions, including pneumonia, enceph-alitis and death, according to healthofficials. Measles can spread throughcoughing or sneezing and can remainin the air and on surfaces for up to twohours.

Symptoms include a fever that canget very high, cough, runny nose, redeyes and a rash of tiny, red spots thatstart at the head and spread to the restof the body.

Infected people are contagiousfrom four days before their rash startsthrough four days after the rash devel-ops.

Vaccination, according to the healthdepartment, is safe and is the bestprotection against measles. The mea-sles-mumps-rubella shot is requiredfor all Illinois school children

Blame Glen Ellyn for COD fiascoSo the Breuder buyout outrages the Glen

particularly since our Board of Trusteesare elected by the same community. ... Weknew exactly what the great majority ofthese people were all about when we put

them in their board seats. And nowwe’reoutraged? ... The community has exactlythe COD Board of Trustees it wanted, andnow the community is getting exactlywhat it deserves from it’s COD Board ofTrustees. Dobrosavljevic left for Californiain July. Nutritionists educated thecontestants on healthy eating andcooking, but they prepared their ownmeals, he said. The group worked outfor three to four hours a day in thebeginning of the show but increasedto eight hours near the end.

“We exercised, ate well, bondedwith the other castmates,” Dobro-savljevic said. “We became a closegroup and felt like family.”

There were plenty of doctors andtrainers on site, and they wouldmake adjustments if a contestant gotinjured, he said.

“I never felt like I was in harm’sway whatsoever,” Dobrosavljevicsaid. “Doctors would restrict the ex-ercises if we got hurt, and the train-ers could always modify.”

Dobrosavljevic said he was im-pressed by how “kind and generous”everyone was who worked on the show.

BloomingdaleRadioShackwaits on listof closures

SUBURBAN LIFE MEDIA

Ten RadioShack stores in the west-ern suburbs are slated for possible clo-sure after the technology retailer filedfor Chapter 11 bankruptcy Feb. 5, ac-cording to a statement and informationon the RadioShack website.

The affected stores are among nearly1,800 possible closures of RadioShack’s4,000 company-owned U.S. locations.

RadioShack reached an agreementto sell up to 2,400 of its U.S. compa-ny-owned stores to Standard Gener-al, which plans to work with Sprintto establish a “store within a store”presence in up to 1,750 of the acquiredstores, according to the website.

Dealer franchise stores were notincluded in the bankruptcy filing orStandard General agreement, the state-ment said.

Store locations

There are 76 Illinois stores on thepossible chopping block. Here’s a list ofthe 10 local locations:

ness, and everyone seemed caring andgenuine.”

Although it was hard for him to beaway from friends and family, he “nev-er once thought of giving up or goinghome,” Dobrosavljevic said.

“I feel honored and blessed that Ihad this opportunity,” he said. “It’svery gratifying and humbling. I justwant to help and inspire other people.”

Dobrosavljevic said he felt his dad’spresence throughout his experience, and that helped him through the gruel-ing process.

“He was there guiding me, inspiringme, pushing me. He was looking out forme. Everything throughout this jour-ney happened for a reason,” he said.

Marija Mihajlovic, Dobrosavljevic’ssister, said their family is “extremelyproud” of him, and it was exciting andemotional for her to watch him everyweek.

“It was great for us to see him trans-form physically and emotionally,” shesaid. “He was trying to fulfill the prom-ise to our dad, and he carried that guiltaround for a long time. I think it was hardfor him to move on after our dad’s death.”

Jamie McGowan, Dobrosavljevic’s

girlfriend, said he seems much morepeaceful since he’s been back.

“He let go of a lot of his guilt,” shesaid. “He’s less fearful. He’s smilingmore; he’s laughing more. He knowsit’s OK to be happy, and that his dadwould want him to be happy. He’s hon-oring his dad’s legacy.”

Dobrosavljevic now is lookingahead to the future, whereas before, hewasn’t too sure he even had one.

“I had a hard time believing in my-self after my dad died,” he said. “Butseeing how far I’ve come, how much I’veaccomplished, there’s nothing I can’t do.I’m happy again. I’m dreaming again.”
