A leading car manufacturerawarded Conveyor Systems Ltd(CSL) a contract to design andsupply a conveying systemincorporating both twin andsingle trolley cars to transportcages of flat steel sheetsweighing up to 4 tonnes to andfrom a hydraulic press toproduce body panels.

The company was looking toreplace an existing AGV systemwith a more technologicallyadvanced transportationsystem to meet the increaseddemands and throughputs.

The trolley cars were purposelydesigned to accommodate awide range of heavy duty cageseither one large or two small, in

six sizes ranging from 1 metreup to 1.9 metres wide.

The cages holding the flat steelsheets are taken from the de-stacker and positioned on theheavy duty roller conveyorintegrated into the twin cagetrolley cars. These then feed toeither side of the press.

Pressed body parts are thenreturned to the stacker and theprocess continues.

CSL worked closely to agree aschedule for installation andcommissioning of the system tokeep disruption to ongoingoperations to a minimum.

CSL Wheelie GoodSolution

Conveyor Systems Ltd providea “wheelie” successful transferbetween floor levels: Thecomponent division of a leadingGerman car manufacturerappointed CSL to improve theefficiency in transferring carwheel assemblies betweenground and mezzanine floors, asthe existing vertical platformelevator was slow and provingunreliable.

CSL’s accepted proposal was toreplace the vertical elevatorwith an 11 metre long 25° heavyduty inclined grip top belt. This

rises to a height of 3.5m, feedingfull wheel assemblies (tyre &wheel) onto the mezzanine floorand integrating into an existingsystem.

A customer spokespersonreported, "CSL provided us witha very cost effective proposalthat fully met our criteria andhas achieved improvedefficiencies and throughput.Since installed, the system hasoperated with total reliabilityand was completed on time andwithin budget."
