What We Provide Today• SWMF source code is freely available (after registration)• SWMF has extensive documentation on-line

– 150 page User Manual– Publications describing the SWMF and BATS-R-US are online (in PDF

format)• User friendly web interface

– Code control, run control, visualization• Daily test run on at least five platforms

– CVS version control– E-mail notification of failures

• BATS-R-US was the first model at CCMC– We have 7 years of experience and good relations– Provide regular updates and help troubleshooting– ~60% of all CCMC runs were made with CSEM codes

Main Issues (Tamas’ Opinion)• Who chooses the Community models?• What are the expectations

– Troubleshooting– Documentation– Validation

• Providing short test runs with all input and output files is essential

• Source code needs to be available (but with licence agreement)

• Honesty with model/physics limitations and problems

Model Issues

• From magnetogram to corona– Synoptic magnetic field– Plasma parameters– How to heat the corona?

• From corona to solar wind– How to match observations at the Sun and Earth?– We need to move to full qualitative models

(providing plasma and magnetic field parameters)• STEREO images cannot be interpreted

without qualitative 3D models

• Components of the framework can be easily selected for use.

• Some components have multiple versions or even alternative models

GUI:Code Control

GUI:Run Control

• Upload SW driver or satellite position files.

• Edit run parameter files.• Edit queue submission files.• Execute jobs.

GUI:Visualization

• Visualize run output using quality templates with many customizable options.

• Outputs postscript, png, animated gif, …
