We are edging toward the halfway point and have 43% toward our goal! Thank you to the 96 parishionerswho have returned those pledges so quickly. Reminder; Our challenge for this year is to surpass our 2021target goal of $71,189.00 by Christmas this year. We are also looking to increase our pledge families by 2%which works out to be 5.2 new family pledges. We are not looking for equal gifts but equal sacrifice. There aremultiple ways to spread out your gift. Our gifts to the CSA help fund so many ministries, programs, andservices that support our own church like our RCIA program. The Department of Evangelization, Catechesisand Schools uses CSA funds to develop certification programs for RCIA ministers and formation for RCIAteams. If you have not received your 2021 CSA pledge materials in the mail, please contact Nancy at the parishoffice for assistance. Please make all checks payable to the Archdiocese of Detroit-CSA and put SIJ in thememo line. Thank you and May God Bless You! Nancy Milich

At Mass, we continue to read John 6. Interestingly, we won’t read from John 6 next week. Do youknow why? Instead, we will finish the chapter on August 22. I would like to continue writing aboutthe Eucharist. I am going to give an overview of its treatment in the catechism. I will finish up in twoweeks.

Do you know all the names of the sacrament? Because of its richness, we refer to it in different waysto highlight aspects of the mystery. It is called the Eucharist because Eucharist means thanksgiving, and we are giving thanksgiving to God. It is called the Holy Sacrifice because it makes present the onesacrifice of Christ. It is called Holy Communion because we become sharers in Christ’s Body and Bloodand become one body. It is called Holy Mass because as I discussed last week, missa is Latin for thesending out at the end, meaning we are sent out to live what we have received.

We bring up bread and wine at the offertory. Bread and wine were offered by the king-priestMelchizedek in the Old Testament. We remember the manna in the desert. We remember Jesus’miracles, multiplying loaves and turning water into wine at Cana. Now he turns bread and wine intohis Body and Blood. Recall the bread and the wine at the Passover and Israel’s haste departure fromslavery. The Last Supper is a Passover meal. Jesus gives then the Jewish Passover a new meaning. Hewill pass over to his Father by his death and Resurrection, which anticipates the final Passover of theChurch into the glory of the kingdom.

At Mass, it is Christ who is the celebrant. The priest acts in the person of Christ, presiding over theassembly, receiving the offerings, and praying the Eucharistic Prayer. The basic order of thecelebration is the same as it has been for 2000 years. There are the readings, and the homily is theexhortation to accept the Word of God and put it into practice. We bring forward bread and wine, symbolic of us bringing our human endeavors to Christ who will perfect them in his sacrifice. Thecollection is our sharing with those in need. In the preface, the Church thanks the Father, throughChrist, in the Holy Spirit for creation, redemption, and sanctification, and we join in unending praisewith the angels and all the saints. At the epiclesis (when the priests holds his hands over the breadand wine), the Church asks the Father to send the Holy Spirit, and during the institution narrative, bythe power of the Holy Spirit, the bread and the wine become the Body and Blood of Christ. After theLord’s Prayer we receive Communion, the Body and Blood of Christ. The catechism reminds us of thewords all the way from St. Justin: No one may take part unless he believes what we teach is true.

As mentioned in the beginning, the Eucharist is a sacrifice of thanksgiving. It is thanksgiving for allthat God has made good, beautiful, and just. It is presented to the Father through the death andResurrection of Christ. It is also a sacrifice of praise. Christ is glorifying God, and it is only possiblethrough him, with him, and in him. That should remind you of the words of the doxology Throughhim…, and that if it is the work of Christ, no other thing that we can do is a substitute for Mass. Itwould actually be quite presumptuous to think anything we do to be equal to what Christ does inMass.

Those are some thoughts for this week. As mentioned, I am working through CCC 1322-1419. Ofcourse, I cannot cover all. Read to see what I have only summarized, and we will pick up again in twoweeks.

May God bless you, Fr. David Cybulski

When Father David stopped me after Mass and asked me to consider joining the Evangelization Committee here at St. lsaac Jogues, I think I almost said "no, thank you" before he finished hisquestion. Not because of anything that was said, but my own personality. I am a skeptic, and my firstresponse to just about anything is "no,'' before later thinking on it. I also didn't think of myself as anevangelist, walking and preaching the Gospel as St. Paul did. It's just not me. But he asked me to prayon it and I did.

So as a convert, I thought back to my evangelization 20+ years ago now. It didn't happen by being approached and asked if I had heard the Good News. I wasn't ready; I wouldn't have listened. Minewas more of a passive evangelization. I had a good friend who went to weekly Mass, and as my lifeseemed to be filled with chaos, her life seemed to be at peace. I was drawn to her. I didn't know what lwanted or needed in my life at that point, but I knew I wanted THAT. At some point, years later, I askedher if I could go to church with her. That friend, now my wife, evangelized me in just the way that Ineeded: She was the light; a magnet that drew me toward God.

So what does this have to do with you?

We are ALL called to evangelize, and bring those around us to Christ. If you are blessed with the skillsof St. Paul and St. Peter, that is great! But maybe many of you are like me. We all have unique talents, and are called to use them.

Are you being the light for your family and neighbors, so if they feel the call, you will be the one they reach out to? Do you have a social media presence that is filled with empathy, love, and forgiveness, showing others the way? Do you have ideas about how we can reach the young people in our parishand community so we don't lose them? Whatever your talent is, we ask that you pray on it. Imagine ifeach of us were able to bring one person back to the Church. We could potentially reach hundreds, just by doing our part.

We are a new Committee that was started, and immediately disrupted by COVID. But we are always looking for members. We currently meet on the Church front porch the first Thursday of the month following 6 pm Mass (7:15-8:45pm). If you might be interested, please speak to Father David about possibly joining us.

Yours in Christ,Joe Dudek &The Evangelization Committee(Fr. David, Charles Boyd, Joe Dudek, Mike Wallace, Eileen Rosinski & Mary Ann Champagne)

Call your children and ask if their children are registered anywhere. If not, ask permission tobring them to St. Isaac and take responsibility for their soul.Teach a class here and share your love with the children of the parish.Be a classroom aide to assist the lead teacher.Be a hall monitor to assure our children get from point A to point B during class.Help make copies for catechists earlier in the day so the catechist can prepare the classroom.Be a prayer assessor. Listen to the children’s prayers one-on-one to assure they learn them.

Imagine that feeling when your child is place on a wait list for a favorite sport or activity becausethere is no one stepping up to coach the team. In the grand scheme of things, that is a temporaryinconvenience, but honestly, everything will be ok. Now imagine your child’s salvation beingchallenged because there is no one stepping up to pass it on to them. No one to explain to them thebeauty and richness of the Catholic Church. No one to explain that St Isaac Jogues isn’t the same as anon-denominal church down the street and leaving the Church is leaving Jesus’ true presence in theEucharist.

I realize those examples are drastic, but we are living in drastic times. We are literally arming ouryoung people (and their families) to know how to defend themselves in battle against the wickednessand snares of the devil. We are teaching them to better understand how much they are loved andvalued as a creation of God, their Father.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION IS A BIG DEAL!Please take time to register your child on the parish website if you haven’t already done so. I amstaffing and ordering material right now and want to assure everyone is counted.

DON’T HAVE CHILDREN AT HOME? Here are some ways you can help!

WE NEED YOU NOW! There is no time to waste! Classes begin Monday, September 13, 2021,from 5:00-6:00pm. Staff training begins soon.

never was it known that anyone who fled tothy protection, implored thy help, or sought
