Which technology is right for you?

Cryofree magnet and helium recondensing systems

Stand-alone room temperature bore magnets

Integrated cryogen-free magnet and low/ultra-low-temperature inserts

Helium recondensing systems

With Oxford Instruments’ experience in superconducting magnets from wire development to full system expertise, the technology has developed so that any application for superconducting magnets can be considered Cryofree.

Cryofree magnets require no helium refill so optimise your experimental time while reducing issues of skilled infrastructure and support. As an alternative to Cryofree technology we can also offer helium recondensing systems which considerably reduce helium consumption while enabling the most challenging magnet designs.

• No need for liquid helium

• Can be used with magnet bore in any orientation

• Can be integrated with wet and dry low temperature cryostats

• No need for liquid helium

• Compact system

• Low vibration

• Large sample space

• Optical access available

• Base Temperature as low as 10 mK

• Quick sample change options

• Reduced helium consumption

• Compatible with all the standard range of Oxford Instruments’ dilution refrigerators and 3He refrigerators

• Compatible with the most complex magnet designs (up to 22 T)

Typical Cryofree Magnets:

• Solenoid magnets up to 18 T

• Split pair magnets up to 14 T

• Vector rotate magnets

Magnet cool down acceleration technology, heat pipe technology (Patent pending application number 1108605.5):

12 Tesla magnet systems normally cool to base temperature

in less than 32 hours. With the new heat pipe technology,

15 T magnet cool down time is reduced by half!

How does it work?

The heat pipe connects the magnet directly to the pulse

tube refrigerators’ first stage during the cool down phase to

accelerate cooling to below 80 K. The heat pipe automatically

switches off below the nitrogen melting point at 65 K.

• Faster experiment: as magnet cool down time is

reduced by at least 40%

• Self-regulating heat pipe – no need for any control

electronics or software

• The only cryogen-free solution available on the market

New MercuryiTC temperature controller, MercuryiPS magnet power supply and Oxsoft IDK software

Accurate

• Measures and controls temperatures down to 250 mK

Stable

• Magnet power supply stability less than ±2.8 mA at 120 A

Expandable

• Controls 4 stages simultaneously and a stepper motor

• Monitors up to 9 temperature sensors at the same time

• Multi-axis magnet control

User-friendly interface and system control

• Configurable touch screen interface

• Remote access

• Complete system control with Oxford Instrument

Development Kit software

Cryofree magnet and helium recondensing systems

“I am delighted with the convenience of my Cryofree magnet system. Preparation of the magnet for an experiment only involves the usual pumping, and switching on of the cryocooler a couple of days before we start. The magnet works well, and is a key component in our unique experiment for confocal magneto-optical studies of quantum dots with arbitrary orientation with respect to the magnetic field.”

Lowest guaranteed base temperature

• ≤ 1.5 K with Variable Temperature Insert

• Can be extended down to ≤ 300 mK with the

Heliox™VT 3He refrigerator and ≤ 25 mK with the

Kelvinox®VT dilution refrigerator

• Highest upper temperature: up to 420 K

• 30 mm and 50 mm diameter inserts available

• No gas flow over sensitive samples: the system uses

a static exchange gas around the sample, preventing

flow induced movement of delicate samples or

measurement probes

• Lowest vibration: suitable for a wide range of

sensitive measurements

• Vector rotate and split pair magnet options

• Optical access available with the

Minimise running costs and maximise experimental time

The IntegraAC range of recondensing helium systems has been developed to significantly reduce the consumption of liquid helium by recondensing helium gas evaporated within the system, which would otherwise be vented from the cryostat.

• Significantly reduces helium consumption and

frequency of refills

• Compatible with all the standard range of dilution

refrigerators, 3He inserts, VTI and superconducting

magnets. This means you won’t have to disrupt your

experiments when you are upgrading your existing dewar

• The cryostat can be kept cold continuously which

minimises the costs associated with cooling a sample and

gives greater freedom to schedule experimental time

• Can be used for highly vibration sensitive experiments

Custom designs

Unrivalled experience in high field helium recondensing magnet

systems enabling the most advanced magnet designs required

by challenging applications.

Increasing range of options:

• High field wide angle split pair magnets

• Solenoid magnets up to 22 T

• Fast ramping magnets

• Recondensing of the Variable Temperature Insert and

the lambda refrigerator
