Crufts Dog Show, the event that is held in the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham has
been interrupted by the police; as an investigation is underway for an alleged poisoning of
at least seven dogs, two of which have died just over 24 hours after the famous dogs show.
A Three year old Irish setter named Jagger was one of the victims that died after returning
home to Belgium from event, where he came second place. Jagger’s owners claimed that
their dog was fed chunks of beef that were coated with poison. Vet Dr Patrick Jans was soon
contacted and told the press he had "no idea" when the dog was poisoned and would not
be making any comment until the toxicology report was published next week.
A spokeswoman for the club reassured shocked dog owners by saying “The facts
surrounding Jagger’s sad death are still being established. With regards to speculation about
any other incidents involving other dogs, we must stress that these are at this stage just
rumours.” The club also warned that “anyone attempting to deliberately sabotage another
competitor’s performance would face severe disciplinary procedures.”
