ABOVE: Monday September 9 was Fruit & Veggie dress up day.
Fruit & Veggie Dress-up Day.Crown Street Public School students are doing their bit to help support our farmers and their animals who are doing it tough in these times of drought. The SRC have asked all mufti students to bring in a gold coin to donate to a drought relief organisation.
Students could wear a fruit or veggie-themed outfit or they could dress as a farmer (jeans, checked shirt, straw hat, freck-les). They were also asked to bring in a picnic blanket for a special outdoor crunch ’n’ sip.
To quote Lily, “Fruit and veg day is a day when we celebrate our favourite fruits and vegies. We are able to dress up as farmers and bring in a dollar coin donation to help the farmers in drought-affected areas in Australia. We have been doing this every year for about 4 years. It’s fun and colourful. I love dressing up and playing as a fruit”.

The Crown Street Victor Trumper Project
On Thursday, Kiadyn, Francis, Dylan and Auryn were lucky enough to participate in a photo shoot for the new book about Victor Trumper. This book includes facts, information and what his child hood was like growing up in Surry Hills. The photographers wanted four Crown Street Boys that were passionate cricketers to take part in their book because Victor Trumper went to our school. We were all photographed playing cricket in the alley way where Trumper grew up and where he played cricket every day after school in the late 1800s and early 1900s. We got to use the bat of a bearded guy named G.W. Grace. He was one of the first English captains in test cricket. The four boys were astonished that this historical bat (from 1880) was preserved so well and was so smooth to play with. We would all like to personally thank Mr Burke and Ms Pelly for giving us the opportunity to use and play with such a historical item. In addition, we would like to thank the two men that took the photos and published the book.

Dance Sport Challenge Gala
On Tuesday 10 September, students representing Crown Street attended the DanceSport Gala night at Home-bush Quaycentre. The DanceSport Challenge Gala is open to all Year 5 students from public schools in the Metropolitan South and Regional South Directorates and surrounding areas. It is a culmination of a ballroom dance program that promotes respectful relationships, while developing their ballroom dancing skills.
This exciting event involves over 1400 students who par-ticipate in weekly lessons over 15 weeks in preparation for the Gala night. Dances taught include the Jive, Salsa, Cha Cha, Tango and Samba. Under dazzling lights and the tough scrutiny of judges, the school representatives go head to head in a wonderful display of colour, move-ment and energy at the Gala night.
Milla from 5/6 Acacia explained, “I was amazed how many different schools participated at the Gala night and all the supporters who came to watch” while Maggie stated, “I was impressed at my development of dancing over the 15 weeks. I found Ballroom Dancing challenging but fun!” Mink from 5/6 Sheba highlighted, “I enjoyed
being a finalist for the Tango. The Gala night was big and exciting.”
Crown Street Public School remains the longest partic-ipating school in the DanceSport Challenge program since 2006.

Last Wednesday September 11 the whole of kindergar-ten went to Centennial Park by bus. We saw many an-imals in the park: fruit bats sleeping upside down and possums in the trees and we saw an eel and a purple swan in the water.
Centennial Park is a very large park with many lakes, forests and picnic areas. Entry to the park is free and it is only a few minutes by car from our school.
Did you know that it is a very old park? It was founded by Governor Macquarie in 1816.
Later that day we made models of animals from clay. We made a little house out of sticks. We ate our lunch that we brought from home.
