ROAD TO KINDERGARTEN

Do you have a child who will be 5 years old by September 1, 2016? You are invited to attend an information session about Kindergarten in the Howard County Public School System. At the workshop you will learn: Expectations for school readiness (and receive a Ready for Kindergarten toolkit). Details about the kindergarten program. Information about HCPSS kindergarten registration. Ways that family and children can be supported during this transition.

Road to Kindergarten Workshops will be held from 6:30-7:30 PM on Monday, February 1 at Howard High School, and Wednesday, February 3 at Centennial High School. Choose a session that is convenient for you. No registration required. Child care is available at each session for children ages 2 and older. NEIGHBOR RIDE NEEDS VOLUNTEERS!

Neighbor Ride is a volunteer-based transportation program committed to decreasing isolation and improving quality of life for older residents. Volunteers provide rides for shopping, medical appointments, social outings, religious services, volunteering and more. Flexible daytime, evening, and weekend volunteer opportunities are available. Orientations are held on Tuesdays at 9:30 AM and one evening each month at 5570 Sterrett Place, Suite 102, in Columbia. VILLAGE BOARD

If you have concerns you would like the Village Board to address, attend a Board meeting. Meetings are held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 7:30 PM. The board meeting on January 6 was cancelled due to a lack of agenda items. A summary of the most recent Board meeting will appear in the next issue of the Crown Prints.

Don’t forget to clear your sidewalk after a snowstorm—it’s the law. “It is the duty and obligation of the owner of property abutting a sidewalk in a public right of way to remove snow from the sidewalk within 48 hours after the snow has fallen." Howard County code, Section 18.402(h).

CRIME PREVENTION TIPS

The Howard County Police Department offers these crime prevention tips when getting in and out of your vehicles: Roll up the windows. Remove the keys from the vehicle. Remove all items of value from your vehicle

(GPS systems and base, iPods, cell phones, laptops, loose change, bags, purses).

Lock your vehicle. Ensure your garage door is closed and

locked and the door leading to the interior of your home is also locked.
