Ultimate Goal of Back To School Plan
Provide the highest quality education for all students whether via Distance
Learning or In-School in safest environment
Student and Staff Safety Rationale
Possibility of COVID carrier with or without symptoms in schools
Masks protect others
Frequent hand washing/sanitizing protects everyone
Consequences of Verified COVID Cases
14 DAY QUARANTINE FOR STUDENTS/STAFF IN CONTACT WITH VERIFIED COVID
CASE IF MORE THAN 15 MINUTES WITHIN 6 FEET
Possible transmission of virus to students/staff/families
Potential for School and/or School System Closure
INDIVIDUAL SCHOOL/CORPORATION
COVID HEALTH STATUS
GREEN: Regular 5-day per week schedule; mask wearing will be required
some, but not at all, times during the school day; extensive daily hygiene and
cleaning precautions will be in place. Includes EL students.
YELLOW: A yet to be specified number of COVID cases will result in increased
mask wearing and other heightened precautions; a possible hybrid student
schedule could be implemented to decrease the total number of students in
school on a given day. EL student modifications determined by case
conference committee.
RED: Significant number of COVID cases as determined by the Lake County
Health Department will result in school or possible school system closure of
buildings.
INSTRUCTIONAL LEARNING OPTIONS (for
the start of 2020-21 School Year)
A. In-School, 5 days per week, normal student schedule with health protocols in place.
B. At-Home, primarily for students/families with compromised health conditions 5
days per week remote learning, following the in-school daily schedule of classes as
they are delivered by the teacher. Students will be expected to follow the same
assignments, quizzes and tests as in-school students.
DAILY STUDENT SCHEDULE
Leaving Home
Parents monitor student health, take temperature; if temperature 100.0
degrees, student stays home 72 hours fever free without meds
All students required to bring masks to school on daily basis
If student needs a new mask while at school, one will be provided.
School Bus
All students riding a school bus must wear a mask
All students will be given assigned seats due to requirements for contact
tracing should another student be COVID positive
DAILY STUDENT SCHEDULE
School Arrival
Student temperatures may be taken in random screenings
upon arrival, but Health Department does not recommend
due to need to avoid delaying entrance to school and
congregating of students.
Hallways
Students will wear masks while walking in hallways and
tending to lockers
DAILY STUDENT SCHEDULEClassroom
Students will follow daily hygiene procedure when entering the classroom, including hand washing/sanitizer, disinfecting desk upon arriving
Student desks will be spaced out as much as physically possible
Student desks will be aligned in the same direction facing the teacher
When students are facing forward and listening to instruction or doing seat work, masks may be removed at the direction of the teacher
When students are working in close, face to face proximity masks are to be worn at the direction of the teacher
Teachers will wear a mask when in close proximity to students; a teacher is not required to wear a mask when speaking from the front of the room more than 6 feet away from students. However, teachers have the option to wear the mask all of the time if preferred.
DAILY STUDENT SCHEDULE
Recess
Masks not required when outside and social distancing
Social distancing is to take place as much as possible
Close, face to face interaction will require masks to be worn
Students will be divided up and rotate through equipment and
play areas as much as possible
Lunch
Pre-packaged lunches will be provided; no open buffets
Cafeterias and other rooms that are used for lunch will space
out students and masks will not be required while eating
Depending on the school space/room availability, sometimes
students will have to alternate lunch between classroom and
cafeteria
DAILY STUDENT SCHEDULE
Specials (Art, Music, PE)
Materials to be shared among students as little as possible
When sharing is required, cleaning is required
When possible teachers will go to classrooms to reduce hall
traffic
Same hygiene and mask rules apply as in regular classroom
HEALTH PROTOCOLS
Teachers and students will receive formal training in daily
hygiene and cleaning protocols
Teachers will receive training in COVID like symptoms that
might be exhibited by students
Teachers will send students who appear ill to the school nurse
School Nurses will be trained in identifying COVID like
symptoms, will take temperatures and determine whether to
send a student home as outlined by the State Board of Health
School Nurses have the authority to require that a student be
tested for COVID before returning to school
Usual school procedures for a student identified with a fever
(COVID suspected or not) will be followed with respect to 72
hours at home fever free without use of meds
HEALTH PROTOCOLSSuspected COVID Case
An isolation room will be identified in each school for a COVID suspected case and student/staff will be monitored by school nurse until parent arrives or staff member leaves
Nurse will provide instructions regarding the possible necessity to obtain a COVID test
Verified COVID Case
If a student/staff is verified as COVID positive, the County Health Department will conduct a contact tracing of all other students/staff that was in close contact less than 6 feet for more than 15 minutes.
All such students/staff will be quarantined for 14 days as per Health Department – students on quarantine will participate in daily remote learning.
Any student/staff in a home where there is a verified COVID case, that student/staff will be quarantined for 14 days and will participate in remote learning. Parent must report to school.
