CROSSROADS UNITED CROSSROADS UNITED CROSSROADS UNITED METHODIST METHODIST METHODIST PATHWAY PATHWAY PATHWAY Scripture - Matthew 14:28-33 In the August newsletter, our challenge was to an- swer God "Here I am Lord". Our challenge was to not sit on the sidelines and to stop saying "I almost gave to a charity; I almost used my time to help someone." To help someone we must get "out of the boat" (or out of our comfort zone). In the scripture above, we see that Peter did get out of the boat. Often when we read this scripture we might look at this as a fail- ure of Peter's since he became afraid. However, at least he got out of the boat; the other 11 disciples never ventured forth. While Peter may have failed, he failed while trying to do the right thing. William Barclay writes, "A saint is not someone who never fails but one whose failure brings him closer to Jesus Christ and through Christ finds the ability to get up and go on." If we are to do ministry together we must get out of the boat (out of the church building), and make a difference for each other at Crossroads and those outside. We need to stretch our ministry, exercise our spiritual muscles and to look through spiritual eyes. (Sermon 8/24). We cannot grow in the knowl- edge of how great Christ is until we stretch our- selves to the point where we quit trying to do things in our strength and rely on Him. Therefore, as we develop new ministries/outreach/ mission in the months ahead let us try these steps below. 1. Spend quiet time with Him. That is where the inspiration/guidance will come... 2. Pray about the direction given. 3. Involve others in your dream. Get out of the boat! Pastor Parage from India said in one of his newslet- ters, “Jesus called us to be fishers of men, not keep- ers of the aquarium". Let us answer. Here I am Lord; I am ready to get out of the boat! Scripture - Matthew 14:28-33

In the August newsletter, our challenge was to an-swer God "Here I am Lord". Our challenge was to not sit on the sidelines and to stop saying "I almost gave to a charity; I almost used my time to help someone." To help someone we must get "out of the boat" (or out of our comfort zone). In the scripture above, we see that Peter did get out of the boat. Often when we read this scripture we might look at this as a fail-ure of Peter's since he became afraid. We cannot grow in the knowl-edge of how great Christ is until we stretch our-selves to the point where we quit trying to do things in our strength and rely on Him. Therefore, as we develop new ministries/outreach/mission in the months ahead let us try these steps below. 1. Spend quiet time with Him. That is where the inspiration/guidance will come... 2. Pray about the direction given. 3. Involve others in your dream. Get out of the boat! Youth Ministry Report The youth are gearing up for the fall. They are all busy with band and school activities, but we will be fitting in fun outings and mission opportunities. Sherry Curtis is going to be doing a new study starting the second Sunday in Sept. on the book of Revelation. We are all excited to learn and discuss this important book of the Bible. Resurrection is just around the corner and the youth will be selling God's Creations cal-endars. We sold them a few years ago. We will be selling them for $7.00. Get with any youth if you would like one. They make great Christmas gifts. Thanks, Michael

Children’s Ministry The Fall Festival here at Crossroads is an outreach from our church family to our children and to our community. It is our desire to offer a safe place for children and their parents to enjoy an after-noon together. We hope their experience here will be a positive one in which they feel the love of Jesus expressed in actions and words. We would love for the whole family here to be in-volved in this ministry. Would you consider what part you might play on this fun-filled afternoon? If you are interested in volunteering for this event or have any questions, please contact Mary Leach at (423)470-1616 or [email protected]. The Fall Festival will take place on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 5:00-7:00 at the church. Activities will in-clude meeting and learning about alpacas and farm life, hayrides, decorating pumpkins and cookies, crafts, games, and food. Please invite your neighbors, friends, and others in the commu-nity. This event is for the whole church not just children and parents.
