2 ANNUAL REPORT 2015-2016 CROSSROADS HOSPICE SOCIETY
A Message From the Board of Directors
2015-2016 was another fulfilling year at Crossroads Hospice as our entire team, staff and volunteers,
worked towards our common goal: providing high quality and compassionate end-of-life care to the pa-
tients and emotional support for their families. We saw a number of changes internally this year but our
team worked diligently to maintain the well-earned reputation for delivering outstanding hospice care
and bereavement services within our communities.
The year saw us welcome some new members to the team while saying farewell to some long standing
members of the Crossroads Hospice family as they embarked on new ventures. In July 2015, we wel-
comed our new Executive Director, Tereza McDermid, who joined us from her role as General Manager at
the Best Western Coquitlam Inn & Convention Centre. Tereza brought enthusiasm and boundless energy
along with her business acumen to Crossroads Hospice. In January 2016, Jennifer Wilson joined us as the
new Volunteer Manager at Crossroads Thrift Store bringing some fresh eyes to our key business opera-
tion.
Later that same month, Janice Hansen, our long time Hospice Manager, moved on after 6 years as Hospice
Manager and approximately 18 years of amazing work in different capacities at Crossroads Hospice.
Brock Nicholson, our Visiting Volunteer Co-ordinator and Co-ordinator of our New Westminster services
departed in March 2016 to pursue other opportunities. Their contributions are valued and the staff and
volunteers carried the ball as we identified our new management team who will help build on the legacy
that Janice and Brock worked to maintain so well.
The changes we saw were not all personnel related. At Crossroads Inlet Centre Hospice Residence,
the installation of a new, more modern call bell system has allowed the nursing staff to better serve the
needs of our patients and their families.
Our two signature fundraisers, Treasures of Christmas in November and Hike for Hospice in May, both
exceeded expectations in terms of the energy and participation. This positive energy also helped drive the
financial results for both events helping us ensure we are well positioned to not only maintain but to en-
hance the service and programs at Inlet Centre Hospice for years to come.
The Board is excited for the future of Crossroads Hospice Society. We look forward to working with Bar-
bara Morningstar, the new Hospice Manager, and Sylvie Jensen, the new Palliative Care Volunteer Co-
ordinator, who bring a wealth of experience from neighbouring hospice organizations. We look forward
to seeing the evolution of the Thrift Store as Rose and Jennifer look at new promotions to attract increas-
ing numbers to our location. We have continued to receive support from our generous donors and spon-
sors, both those long standing patrons and those who have recently been introduced to the work that we
do and we will work to continue those strong relationships. We look forward to improvements on the
technical side of the organizations as we update our website and volunteer management systems so we
can better communicate with our community members as well as with the group that keep Crossroads
Hospice functioning; our tremendous volunteers who give selflessly, whether through Inlet Centre ser-
vices to our patients and families, at the Thrift Store with our customers or at our many events. We can
never say thank you enough for the dedication and contributions of volunteers. Here is to a successful
2016-2017 Crossroads Hospice year.

OUR VISION
All members of our community have access to
high quality palliative care and bereavement services
Thank You for Your Gifts, Support
Fund development is a significant strategic area for
Crossroads Hospice Society. Donations fund a large
portion of our palliative patient care services and be-
reavement support programs for community members.
This past fiscal year, Crossroads Hospice Society
raised over $415,000 which was only made possible
by our generous donors and community partners.
These donations came in many forms including fund-
raising events, memorial gifts and estates, individual
giving and our annual giving campaign.
We are very grateful for the support we received from
individuals and corporations. Thank you for gifts.
