From the Principal __________________________

Dear Parents and Friends of Crossmaglen Public School,

Last week we played with cardboard boxes during break times. This was a wonderful time to

watch our students collaborate and develop their interpersonal skills as they learnt with and

from their friends. Observing those who attempted to contribute constructively as well those

who were able to add to the strength of a team. For some, yes it looked like a pile of boxes,

for me it really was a learning community flourishing right before our eyes.

The daily discussion was about the name - should it be called a fort or a castle? Even Glenn,

our neighbour, saw our post on Facebook and added to the boxes - thanks Glenn.

Mrs Dutton

Thank you to Mrs Daphne Dutton, who made and donated beautiful pot holders for the Kids in

the Kitchen program.

They were put to good use during Kids in the Kitchen on Friday.

Reading

Last year we had the ever successful Reading Tree with monkeys. This year, students are

bees, landing on flowers as they work their way back to the beehive. We have moved the

display so all students can reach to move their very own bee. Please come into the office and

have a look at all the bees ready to pollinate the flowers.

The reading program is identical to last year, every student reading with an adult at school.

Each individual student is assessed, recorded and read with. Please ensure you are supporting

this program by reading with your child at home. If the text is sent home again, this is called

a familiar read and a great opportunity to improve fluency. If the reader requires your

assistance, what a wonderful opportunity for you to assist your child or even read it to them.

P&C

Thank you to the parents who attended the P&C meeting last week. It is wonderful to listen to

feedback and suggestions from others and hear notions of thanks and appreciation to our

teaching staff.

It is also an opportunity for me to keep our community informed on school life and our current

building status. I would love for every family to be represented during these meetings as it

provides a wonderful opportunity to listen to new ideas and expand our connections into the

community.

The Smith Family

Graeme Grice coordinates a program called ‘Saver Plus’ which is delivered by The Smith Family

in the Coffs Harbour area. The goal of the program is to ‘assist participants develop a savings

habit’ and to also ‘ assist participants squeeze the most from the household budget’. The

program rewards participants with ‘dollar for dollar’ matching, up to $500, of what

participants save over a 10 month period, saving $12.50 a week will get one to $500 in 10

months. At the end of the 10 months participants will have $1000, and the $500 from Saver

Plus is to be used towards any educational or developmental costs for children in school. Items

covered include, uniforms, excursions, laptops and tablets, subject fees and any

extracurricular activities such as swimming lessons, sports, tuition, music and dance etc.

Saver Plus will also cover any equipment required for these activities. Please see the flyer at

the end of this newsletter - eligibility criteria is included.

Kids in the Kitchen____________________

Last Friday, Kids in the Kitchen was run by our Kinder and Year 1. The students

made: ● Bacon, Pumpkin and Zucchini

Frittata ● Herb Bread

● Blueberry Muffin

The students in the Grey Cottage learnt how to make bread from scratch. They also harvested and used school grown

herbs.

Year 1 students used their knife skills for the pumpkin, bacon and zucchini frittata. Everyone asked for seconds and thirds!!

Year 1 leaders perfected their measuring skills to make GF blueberry muffins.
