GLIMPSES OF GLORY
Part of the process of maturing is learning how to speak up for ourselves. Some have more difficulty with this than others. Those with shy or apprehensive personalities will suffer until they adjust and learn to speak up for themselves.
So we learn, but then we recognize that sometimes it might be better to have someone else speak up for us. There may be a benefit in having another speak on our behalf; not because we lack the courage, but simply because and advocate might be more effective.
This is a lesson that the book of Philemon teaches us. Onesimus is a runaway slave that asks Paul to speak to his owner, Philemon, about receiving him upon his
return. 1st Century Roman law allowed for a runaway slave to appeal to a contemporary of his owner to speak on his behalf.
Where would we be if all we had was our own voice? Sometimes our help comes from the voices of others, people praying for us when we are too injured to pray for ourselves. Consider Jesus speaking on our behalf to the Father when our sin could never be justified by our own voices. Paul speaks on behalf of Onesimus and Jesus speaks on our behalf. Thanks be to God that we have learned to speak up for ourselves, but even more that we have an advocate in Jesus, who speaks up for us.

We will kick off Read Across America
Month by celebrating Dr. Seuss’
birthday. We will read Dr. Seuss
books, wear Cat in the Hat masks and
make our own Cat in Hat “hat pizzas”
in our afternoon class. In the morning
classes we will read his books and play
rhyming games.
Since March usually comes in like a
lion, we will be learning about windy
weather and objects that use wind
power to work.
Dinosaurs have also invaded our
classroom once again! There are lots
of dinosaurs to count, sort, read about
and discover during playtime. Our
amateur paleontologists may even
uncover dinosaur bones in our
sandbox.
As we proceed through Lent, we will
continue to hear stories about Jesus’
miracles and some of the parables he
used to teach.
Many thanks to those of you who
participated in our Gertrude Hawk
fundraiser. The candy will be in before
Easter.
Peace,
Janet Kain

COG Fundraiser Cross of Glory is hosting a unique theatrical evening of two live radio plays from the 1940's as a benefit for the church. The performance is ONE NIGHT ONLY, Friday April 7, 2017 at 7:30pm. There is a suggested donation at the door of $10. The two plays are: "The Hitchhiker", a chilling piece from Orson Wells' Mercury Theater, the people who gave us chills with "The War of the Worlds"! The second piece is an hilarious comedy from "The Fibber McGee and Molly Show" called 'Fibber Meets a Racketeer'. The plays will have sound effects performed live by foley artists: You'll see the rain, the door slams, the foot steps, the punches and slaps, all of the sound needed to help tell the story created as the story unfolds. There will also be live music performed during the intermission and post show. Coffee and desserts will also be available as refreshments for this family friendly evening. You are invited to close your eyes at any point during the plays and let yourself be transported to the analog and escape the digital age! The characters will be voiced by: Duane Noch, Michael Burgi, Paula Eisenberg, and Laurie Noch. The music will be performed by the group 'Fathers of Daughters': Bill Brown, Michael Burgi, John Maloney, and Tom Downey, with additional music by Andrea Rieman. Foley sound will be performed by Colin Noch and Lucas Daniels.
