There is plenty of space to gather at the large table and chairs, and a double Belfast sink set into what are lovely traditional style units, “I love the mix of old and new in the kitchen. The marble worktops are really practical, as is the tiled floor, and you couldn’t wish for a better way to start the day than by having a cup of tea in the adjacent snug, looking out over the garden with the double doors wide open.” For more formal occasions, meals are served in the dining room, which also leads off the hallway. This a lovely quiet room, ideal for taking your coffee and laying out your papers, as well as for those special family occasions, “The dining room looks stunning when decked out for Christmas, “ says the owner, “I love the bay window, and it’s very bright and airy.”

The capacious sitting room is an inspired space, and one that never ceases to bring pleasure to the family, whatever the time of year, with its central double fronted fireplace bringing warmth in the winter time, and double aspect French doors allowing the light to spill into the room, enticing you into the garden from the moment the days warm up. A large window on the third aspect ensures that you make the most of the light, and being such a large space, you never have the sense of being on top of one another. “This room is such a pleasure to be in, whatever the time of year. It’s great in winter with a roaring log fire, and it’s a wonderful place to chill out in summer time, as it gives straight out onto the patio.”

Going up?

The galleried landing is quite stunning, although it wasn’t something that the owners warmed to as an initial concept, they couldn’t love it more now that it is in place. “The architect suggested the first floor window on the landing. We were unsure but gently persuaded to go ahead, and were so glad that we did. You step out in the morning and immediately start the day in a positive mood. It’s so inspiring!”


The master suite is a wonderful space, with spacious fitted cupboards and charming en suite, “It seems that my en suite is so loved by visitors that they often take pictures of it, and I have to confess that it is one of my favourite spaces in the whole house. It’s calm, with a really French feel.” It was a tough choice nevertheless between this room and the second bedroom, as the owner confesses, “I do love the second bedroom too, as it has its own WC, and a Juliette balcony which gives you a great view of the garden; in the morning, the sun shines right in.” You discover a further two bedrooms on this floor, along with a family sized bathroom, complete with oval bath.

A Wonderful Space

The outside space is as you might expect, well-conceived, beautifully laid out and full of colour, and it is clear that this owner does enjoy gardening on all its levels, as she affirms, “We’ve half an acre of lovely garden, one that has matured beautifully and grown in interest over the years that we’ve been here. We’ll be very sad indeed to leave it behind.”
