A New Term A warm Term 2 welcome is extended to all returning students, with a particularly warm welcome offered to all newly enrolled students and their families as they join the Crookwell Public School community. I trust you all experienced an enjoyable autumn vacation and return recharged and well prepared for the term ahead.

Mrs Hannah Graham has returned form maternity leave to take her 1/2 class, we thank Mr Atfield for the wonderful work he has done with Mrs Graham’s class in Term 1. Mr Atfield will continue his intensive reading scheme in Term 2 with infants’ students as well as working with other classes in the school for three days per week. All other staff members will continue as normal.

We are indeed fortunate to have capable people who can step-up and step-in to fill vacancies to ensure teaching learning programs are delivered efficiently and effectively with minimal disruption.

Families that may have a concern, a matter that needs clarification or a matter they would like to discuss during the term are encouraged to contact the school to ensure Crookwell Public School best meets the educational needs of its students. Please remember that a strong home/school partnership is essential if student learning outcomes are to be maximised.

‘Flying Start’ Commences on Monday 6th May Crookwell Public School’s ‘Flying Start’ Program for children who are eligible to start Kindergarten in 2020 commences on Monday 6

th May, 2019. The program runs from 9.30am until

11.00am in the Kindergarten room. Parents are welcome to remain in the Kindergarten classroom if they would like to for the duration of the program. Children do not need to bring any resources except a drink bottle and a piece of fruit. The ‘Flying Start’ Program is provided without cost to participants.

Children, regardless of the school in which they are enrolling are encouraged to participate. This is an ideal opportunity for pre-school children to experience the school environment and routine while developing friendships.

If you know of any children wishing to attend please let them know of the details of the program or they may contact the school on 48 321 213 and speak with Mr Whittington.

ANZAC Day 2019 We are very proud of the many students who marched on Thursday 25

th April for the 104

th Anniversary of the landing of

ANZAC forces at ANZAC Cove, Gallipoli. You represented our school and community with such pride at the Commemorative Service, thank you! Well done to our Prefects who led our school in the march and laid a wreath on our behalf to honour the fallen.

Crookwell Public School Prefects Sam McGregor, Annie

Knight, Lillian Skelly and Luke Palmer prepare for ANZAC Day with Mr Whittington.

The Prefects are ready to lead our school for the

Commemorative March in Crookwell.

Ellie and Sophie support Kindergarten student Isabelle in her

first ANZAC March with CPS.

Jackson shows Miss O’Neill his family medals.

Jack Speer and Jay Knight march proudly with Noah

Edwards.

The Prefects lay the wreath on behalf of everyone at

Crookwell Public.

A proud moment for our school leaders as they represent our

community.

Mother and son, Karen & Charlie, are extremely proud of

their family history.

A Time to Remember Students and teachers held our school ANZAC service on our first day of Term 2. Students, Luke Palmer and Skye Garnham, lit a candle to represent the significance of the contributions of Australia’s and New Zealand’s Indigenous soldiers in the ANZAC campaigns. The service concluded with students breaking an ANZAC biscuit in half and sharing it with the person beside them. The biscuit sharing was inspired by Legacy Australia and New Zealand’s RSA to remind us all that the ANZAC spirit is a special bond between two nations, that ANZAC Day is shared between both Australia and New Zealand because we are stronger together.

Luke and Skye with the candle they lit to reflect on the

contributions of Indigenous soldiers.

Alyssa and Katelyn share the ANZAC spirit.

Year 5 students, Betsy, Harry, Charlie, Tyler and Tevita

enjoyed sharing ANZAC biscuits.

This Term It Is Winter Uniform This term students should be wearing their very smart looking and very comfortable winter school uniform. Please discourage your child from wearing jewellery and non-uniform items of clothing to school to encourage a sense of belonging and ownership, and promote pride in self and school. Thank you in anticipation for your support. If circumstances prevent you from providing your child/children with a winter uniform please phone 48321213 and have a confidential discussion with Mr Whittington.

Term 2 Reminders Students are expected to wear full winter uniform, which

includes the school hat and school socks, to school every day.

Please avoid sending to school noodles or any other food that requires heating.

Students who arrive at school late or leave school early must be signed in/out at the administration office.

Peer Support 2019 Our whole school will be participating in Peer Support sessions this term. The children will be participating in a new module, Moving Forward which focuses on resilience. The experiences in the module help children to identify their qualities and strengths, develop skills, respond with a range of strategies and seek support when faced with challenges. In this session, the children will establish connections with the other members of their group and develop their group agreement to enable them to work well together. The children will discuss an example of a challenging situation and some resilient and non-resilient responses. You might like to discuss with your child what they can do to help them take an active role in Peer Support.

Thank you, Jade Bell, Phoebe Bell & Bojan Nedanoski

Boys & Girls Soccer

On Wednesday both of Crookwell Public School’s soccer

teams played their first Knockout games.

The boys started the day off playing against Bradfordville, a team that we usually meet in the first couple of rounds and a team that always gives us a great close game. The boys played the ball around, keeping great possession and having many attacking plays winning the game 3-1.

Next was the girls, this was a team that came 3rd in the South Coast Region last year. After their warm up girls came out ready for a good hard game, after their warm up. The girls took quick control of the game with a couple of goals in the first half and strong defence. The girls then came out in the second half, placing another couple past the keeper winning the game 8-0.

The last game of the day was Crookwell vs Marulan in the boys K.O competition. The boys pumped after their first win, came ready for another great game. Marulan suffering some injuries and players missing took the field with the bare minimum. The Crookwell boys took an early lead, taking control of the game, putting 7 goals in the back of the net and not conceding any, winning the game convincingly 7-0.

These games could not be possible without the support of parents and supporters. Thank you to everyone that took time out of their day to support our students.

Mr Nedanoski

The Crookwell Public School girls soccer team were stoked

with their game against Bradfordville.

Kindergarten News Topics News in Kindergarten will commence more formally this term with a roster and topic for each week. The aim of news is to foster speaking and listening skills. It is an activity that can be socially rewarding and academically advantageous for young children while also solidifying the home-school connection. See the table below for the day your child has news. If your

child is unable to bring something in to share, they are more

than welcome just to speak about the topic. Please do not

bring items of great sentimental or monetary value.

Why STEM?

Gymnastics Term 2 means the beginning of cooler weather and the

return of Mr Vaughn Edmonds with his gymnastics. This

week students took part in some revision of the skills that

they have learnt over the last couple of years. This involved

all of the general gymnastics positions, the walks,

handstands and cartwheels. Some of our very talented

students are able to do all of these unassisted and without

any reminders.

Ben Lang is quite pleased with his tuck pose.

Harry Bailey stretches high during his L.

Sam Dooley keeps balance during his duck walk.

Lazarus Topalidis holds on to the ceiling in the hall!

Sienna Gray enjoys using the sliders during gymnastics.

Term 2 Sport- Gymnastics It is that time of year again! Mr Vaughn Edmonds has returned to Crookwell Public School, to continue to develop students’ gymnastic abilities. The program will run in a similar fashion to previous years with Mr Edmonds working with the whole school in individual class blocks.

These sessions will be held on Wednesdays for Kindergarten, Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 students and Thursdays for Year 5 and 6 students. This program will be running for the duration of Term 2, the majority of the program will be once again funded through the Sporting School Grant.

As a result of this, the cost of the program has been significantly reduced. The cost per student for the gymnastics program is $7.00, this will cover your child for the entire 10 week program.

Please note: Children are unable to attend this program until their permission note and money have been returned to school. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

GCOPS Update and T-Shirt Orders We are off to a great start in preparation for our Term 3 GCOPS concert with a successful first combined rehearsal at Goulburn East last Monday. Students who haven’t already done so are encouraged to bring in a USB so that they have a copy of the music tracks that they can listen to and rehearse at home.

Students will need a GCOPS t-shirt for the performance. If they already have one from previous years, or have access to one, they can wear that as the design has not changed. Those students requiring t-shirts will need to complete the attached order form and return it to school with $14.00 by the first week of Term 2.

I suggest students order a t-shirt that is slightly too big so that they can wear it in future years. Please contact me if you have any queries regarding the GCOPS concert or t-shirt orders,
