We asked Mrs.
Sherman what her favorite
part about the Pumpkin Run
was. She told us that she
liked observing students
showing great sportsmanship
and cheering for their friends.
She also liked seeing Mr.
Gromek run all 12 races.
The Annual Pumpkin
Run
By Jenny G. & Cheyenne L.
The 4th annual Pump-
kin Run this year was excit-
ing. During the Pumpkin Run,
you run around the baseball
diamond. This event is about
having fun and exercising. The
first person to cross the finish
line gets a medium pumpkin.
The second and third place
winners get paper medals.
Mrs. Sherman says all runners
who competed in the race
and tried their hardest were
considered winners. See
below for the winners in each
grade.

Mrs. Rogers
Book Talk
Art Report By Erin M. & Aylica W.
We interviewed
Mrs. Rogers about the mys-
terious artist of the month.
One question we asked
Mrs.Rogers was what meth-
ods the artist used. She
said that the mystery artist
used good coloring tech-
niques and that the land-
scape was really nice. The
artist used the 3 parts of
the landscape: background,
middle ground, and fore-
ground. The artwork was a
drawing using colored
pencils to show prehistoric
dinosaurs in
different
perspectives.
The mystery
artist’s name
is Daniel
Mirahmadian.
Daniel named
his picture
“Prehistoric
Earth.” He is
in grade three, and his
teacher is Mrs. Casserly.
Baby Mouse, Dork Diaries,
books by Mo Willems such
as Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive
the Bus, Junie B. Jones books,
and No, David! books. She
also recommended Black
Eyed Susan books,
Newbury books, and
Caldecott books. But in the
end, she said to read what
you like.
After that I asked
her if she was going to get
any more books this year.
Some are already bought,
but she said she would also
get more graphic novels,
like Diary of a Wimpy Kid,
Dork Diaries, sports books,
and whatever looks good at
the book fair. When that
was finished, I asked Mrs.
Groth what her favorite
Black Eyed Susan book was.
She replied back that her
favorite everybody book
was Chester, and her
favorite chapter book was
The World Accorded to
Humphrey. I wondered if
she thought any of the
books she recommended
would end up on the top
10 list. She said she could
only hope so.
After that question
I wanted to know what her
favorite subject was as a
kid. Surprise, surprise she
replied that reading and
library were her favorite
subjects. My final question
was, “If you could, would
you go back in time and get
a different job?” She said
maybe. Before she was a
librarian here at Cromwell,
she was a reading teacher
at a different school. I
learned some very interest-
ing things about Mrs. Groth
and her experiences before
teaching and as a media
center teacher.
By Bianca E.
While interviewing
Mrs. Groth our school
librarian, I heard some
interesting responses. I
asked her what her favorite
book was. She said it was a
book titled A Wrinkle in
Time by Madeline L’Engle.
Then I asked her what the
best part of being a librar-
ian is. She said that there
were lots of things. For
example, she has the best
room in the school and
likes getting to run the CVE
studio and working with
the studio crew. Plus she
said that she had the best
helpers! She also likes
having a classroom full of
books and computers. It
was hard for her to choose
just one favorite.
Next I wondered
what books she would
recommend. Mrs. Groth
suggested all of the 39 Clues
books, Roald Dahl books,

By Kaylee A. & Mariah B.
Mrs. Command’s room
is really fun! She has stools that
move so if you can’t stay still it
helps so you don’t fall. Next to
her fun shelf, there is a beanbag
so soft you could fall asleep.
On the desks there is stretchy
band so if the students are mad
or sad, they can push them. All
the students have a furry piece
of cloth; when they get angry or
upset, they can stroke them.
There are reminders for staying
calm. In the room she has three
study carrels so the students
stay focused. If any students
have trouble sitting up straight,
she’s got that covered, too!
She has lots of math posters
because she teaches 3 grades: 1,
2, and 3. Her room theme is
“Stop and Think.” She has lots
of stuffed animals on her fun
shelf which is probably for in-
door recess. Mrs. Command’s
room is exciting, and we wish
we could go there again.
that is different than most
classrooms is that it is very
small.
Question Time
We asked Mr. Carr
if he could change one thing
about his room what it would
be. He said, “I really miss hav-
ing students just popping in to
let me know how their day is
going, and where my classroom
is I don’t see many people walk-
ing by.” Next we asked him
what his favorite thing about his
classroom is. “My favorite thing
is about his classroom is how
quiet it is, so I can talk to stu-
dents in private. The only time
it gets noisy is when my
neighbor Ms. Goddard has
friends and they start bowling,”
he joked.
By Kaylee A. & Mariah B.
The students that
come into Mr. Carr’s room are
there to calm down, so it is not
that fun. Most of the posters
are about calming down. Since
not a lot of students come in
his room, he only has 1 table
and 2 study carrels. Near his
desk he has many photos of his
family. He also has a wind
chime and Japanese posters
because they remind him of the
time he lived in Japan. Next to
his desk, he has a Capitals
poster. One thing in his room

Staff Interview: Mr. Morgan By Erin M. & Alycia W. We interviewed
Mr. Morgan and found out
many interesting things.
Prior to becoming a 5th
grade teacher, Mr. Morgan
worked for Human Re-
sources for the State of
Maryland, approving or
denying raises. When asked
what his favorite part of
teaching is, he said he likes
to work with the students
and 5th grade teachers. Mr.
Morgan also
says the stu-
dents are very
well behaved.
His students make him feel
welcome to this school.
Fun Fact! Mr. Morgan
thinks he is the best basket-
ball player in the 5th grade,
but some students might
not agree. We enjoyed
interviewing Mr. Morgan
and learning a little bit
more about him.
you get six months to run
or walk one marathon. A
marathon is 26.2 miles. This
year teachers were invited to
participate. Mrs. Winfield was
the first teacher to finish one
marathon. Mrs. Lehew was the
second teacher to finish a
marathon, and Mrs. Cabezas
was the third. If you finish a
marathon you can get a free t-
shirt. Kids and teachers can
choose to complete a food
log. Some of the foods are
peaches, tomatoes, mangos,
broccoli, and more!
After you complete one log
and you have more time, you
can get another one to finish.
In March the log is due. Those
that finish will be celebrating
their accomplishment.
At the time of this article was
written 95 students had re-
turned their completed logs
and 24 teachers had returned
their logs.
Baltimore Ravens
Did you know two of the Ra-
ven’s best players, Ray Lewis
and Ladarius Webb, have been
injured? Ray Lewis tore his
triceps. Ladarius Webb tore
his ACL. Also, Terrell Suggs
tore his right bicep. Fortu-
nately they all were back in the
game to win the Super Bowl! The Baltimore Ravens top
players in the normal season
have been Justin Tucker,
Jacoby Jones, Torrey Smith,
and Anquan Bolden.
The Ravens were all so great
this year that they went on to
win Super Bowl XLVII 34-31
over the San Francisco 49ers!
