A spokesman for the Red Arrows said “Everyyear the number of requests far outstrips the resources available. We do look at all optionsto support as many events throughout the country as possible”.

The spokesman confirmed that the Carnival’sbid for the Red Arrows in 2014 will not be hindered by this year’s outcome.

The Red Arrows who have been coming toCromer since 1981 are traditionally one of thehighlights of Carnival Day. Over the past 31years Cromer has been very fortunate to havethem attend the Carnival over 25 times.

Carnival Chairman Tony Shipp said “We are obviously disappointed that the Red Arrowswill not be with us this year. The first questionI am always asked at the beginning of the yearis "have we got the Red Arrows? They have become synonymous with Cromer Carnivaland whilst the Carnival Committee can find the money to pay for them we will continue putting in the application each September.”

He added “We are working hard on trying toget another exciting aerial display for this yearand will do our best to get The Red Arrowsback again for 2014.”

Plans are well underway for this year’s Carnival which looks set to be another bumperyear. Acts already confirmed for Carnival dayin the arena include Woodfords Dray, TheWhite Helmets Motorbike Display Team,Romford Drum & Trumpet Corp, West Lancs.Dog Display Team and Out on a Wing Falconry.

Locals and visitors alike can get into the Carnival spirit on Sunday 7 July at the Carnival’s annual Raft Race and Tug of Warcompetition.

CROMER CARNIVAL 2013 Confirmed dates so far include: Miss Cromer and Senior AttendantCompetition 3 May, 7.30pm, venue TbC

Cromer Carnival Art Week 24 - 29 May, Cromer Parish Hall Clay Pigeon Shoot 30 June, 10.30am Raft Race and Tug of War 7 July, East beach, Cromer Children’s Week One 5 – 9 August Children’s Week Two 12 – 16 August Cromer Carnival 2013 17 - 23 August (Carnival Day Wednesday 21 August)

Red Arrows will not be at Cromer Carnival in 2013 Cromer Carnival committee has confirmed that their application for theRed Arrows at this year’s Carnival has been unsuccessful.

North Norfolk District Council(NNDC) is about to give Cromer’sPier and historic ‘Doctor’s Steps’ aspringtime spruce-up so that they willlook their very best in good time forthe main summer school holidays. The iconic pier - recently used as a filming location for ‘Alan Partridge -The Movie’ andBBC’s ‘Escape to the Country’, and which hasjust been recognised as runner-up in this year’sNational Piers Society ‘Pier of the Year’ award– will receive minor repairs to its benches, handrails and shelters, which will then all berepainted, along with the exterior of the ‘end of pier’ Pavilion Theatre. The work, which hasa budget of £30,000, will take place alongsidethe on-going £1.1m major pier maintenanceand repair programme, is due to start on 15April and to be completed by early July.

The ‘Doctor’s Steps’ link the eastern end ofCromer’s popular North Lodge Park with thetown’s East Promenade. Now a zig-zag slopewith a wooden gangway at the top, the ‘steps’date back to the late 18th Century when Sydney Terry, the only doctor in Cromer in1796, had some steps made down the cliff tothe sea front to assist his patients reach thebeach to indulge in sea-bathing therapy.

The ‘steps’ will be closed for two weeks from 8 April for two weeks so that necessaryrepairs can be made to the steel supporting structure of the gangway, and the aging timbersbe replaced with new oak decking. The work will also include the repair and repaintingof the handrails.

NNDC Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Corporate

Assets, Rhodri Oliver, said, “Tourism is essential for the well-being of the North Norfolk economy and everyone who lives here, and so it’s very important that our main touristareas look their best. The Council has been improving many tourist assets across the district in the last three years, promenades, toilets, car parks, and the repairs to the pier and Doctor’s Steps in Cromer are just the latest in a long and expensive but essential programme of works.”

The wristbands are available from the EACH websitewww.each.org.uk/wristband and cost £1.50 including postage andpackaging. They will also be sold in EACH shops and at events for £1. Cromer MusicEvenings Review Concert Held at Templewood, Northrepps,on Sunday 24th MarchRosanna Ter-berg (Flute) and Leo Nicholson (Piano)

On a bitterly cold day many people came to listento quality performances by Rosanna Ter-Berg andLeo Nicholson, playing music by Frank Martin,William Alwyn, Copeland, Poulenc, Debussy, Taktakishvili and Mike Mower.

Both artists have performed at many prestigious concert halls throughout the UK. Ter-Berg will beperforming with the London Sinfonietta at the Proms this summer.

Leo Nicholson is a much sought after accompanist and is currently at Trinity as a faculty memberworking with singers and wind players.

The opening piece of the concert Ballade by Frank Martin, a prolific Swiss composer/pianist whosewife died whilst he was writing this piece, explained the deep emotion portrayed in the music,

which was performed with intense and almost tangible sensitivity and re-spect for the composer’s intention.

After the interval, Debussy’s Six Epigraphes Antiques which he wrote toaccompany spoken poems written by a friend - these were just six shortworks of the 12 originally written.

The highlight for me, of this concert, was Mike Mower’s Scree, fromSonata No 3. This intense and exciting work, I am sure, aroused all present, who had probably been lulled into a peaceful dimension by thesoothing and sometimes haunting sounds of the flute. Here Mower’s com-position in performance confirmed the extreme capabilities of the twoartists who performed this most demanding work involving a truly modernprogressive jazz idiom, in style, with its demands on the performers met with relish and ease.

On leaving Templewood I hope classical purists were prompted to reflect on their preferences after experiencing the writings of Mike Mower!

Petition set up for Vodafone customersto detail anger over signal problemsA petition has been set-up to record comments about theon-going Vodafone signal problems that have continuedto inconvenience businesses and traders, tourists, andresidents in the north Norfolk area since October.

Last month Vodafone assured customers that all faultyhardware at local masts had been replaced - but couldnot guarantee that faults wouldn't occur further downthe line. And over the Easter weekend customers livingacross Mundesley, North Walsham, Aylsham, Cromer, and Sheringham have suffered from the issue again.

North Norfolk Labour Party has since set up a petition - www.vodafonenfk.com - which it hopes will detail public anger to provide to Vodafone representatives, after being approached bydisappointed business owners and residents.

Jono Read, press officer for North Norfolk Labour Party, said: "The statements from Vodafone aresimply not good enough. They are expecting customers to fulfil their contract with the firm - butVodafone cannot offer guarantees that they will their contract with their customers in north Norfolk.

Vodafone representatives are offering conflicting advice, with some asking customers to shell outmore money for the equipment to help boost signals, while others are getting theirs free. They need to compensate all involved.

We are particularly concerned by the wayVodafone are treating some of those trying to leave their contracts early - with one local ladythreatened with debt collectors and ending up in a small claims over the issue."

I suppose I shall be castigated for saying thisbut, for me, the fact that Comic Relief is finallyover and television and radio programmes can,for a brief period, cease battering our collectiveconsciences is the real relief. It may be heresyto say so, but I don’t think I am alone in beingheartily sick and tired of the seemingly endlessprocession of habitual do-gooding eventswhich increasingly dominate the annual round.

Each major event – Children in Need, SportRelief, Comic Relief – expands its time, effortand scope each year (just like Christmas whichkicks off in September) so that the periods ofcalm in between when the exhortations andhype die down, become steadily shorter. It has reached a stage when I refer to BBC 1 as ‘the charity channel’. What is more I have a feeling that it is a means of providing our taxpayer-funded state broadcaster with an easyway of filling schedules with the home-madeantics of both public and celebrity participants, none of whom requires any fees because ‘it’sfor charity, innit?’ Quite frankly it has become

officially organised national begging with menaces on a massive scale : ‘Give us yourbloomin’ wonga’ (or we will label you selfish, mean and heartless by default).

What sort of society have we become? Every organised event, for sport, entertainment or amusement now attractspeople seeking sponsorship for a ‘worthycause’ whilst taking part. This constantdemand for our attention and ourmoney has, I think, become excessiveand instead of a warm feelingengendered by a naturalimpulse to help those lessfortunate, we end up ei-ther beaten into submis-sion or so hardened to itall that we just shut oursenses to the continual blandishments and batten down the hatches over our natural

kind instincts in order to cope with the whole problem of charityoverkill.

What, if anything, can be done to scale it backto a sensitive level?

ROTARY LEARNS MORE ABOUTWHIZ-KIDZLast month members of Cromer andSheringham Rotary Club were treated toan inspirational talk and presentationfrom Jessica Hiscocks, the East AnglianFund-raising co-ordinator for the children’s charity Whiz-Kidz.

Whiz-Kidz was established some 25years ago to provide disabled childrenwith specially-adapted, powered wheelchairs and other mobility equipment toenable them to lead fun and active childhoods.

Members heard that there are currentlyaround 70,000 disabled children andyoung people waiting for a type of wheel chair which would fit their particular lives. ThroughWhiz-Kidz’s fund raising initiatives many young people now have wheel chairs which enablethem to do more activities – whether in the home, in the gym or on the sports field.

A prime example is that of Hannah Cockroft. She received her first sports wheel chair from Whiz-Kidz five years ago and, last year, went on to become a double Olympic gold medallist. This year she has become an official patron of the charity.

Peter Stibbons, President of Cromer and Sheringham RotaryClub, is seem presenting a cheque to support Whiz-Kidz.

Prom Fashion ShowTeenagers from Cromer Academy put on a fashion show to remember to help raise funds for their forthcoming Prom.

The glamorous event was heldin the academy’s AssemblyHall which was transformedinto a glitzy catwalk for the oc-casion with guests receiving anon-alcoholic cocktail on ar-rival. The evening kicked offwith a fast paced street danceroutine performed by dancersfrom Marlene’s School ofDance based in Cromer.

Guests were able to view two ranges of clothes from Lily B Boutique inCromer, modelled by students and a few brave members of staff.

The main event of the evening was the display of beautiful Prom dresseson show provided by Maisy May Wedding and Prom Dress Boutique inNorth Walsham. Just Beauty and Genesis Hair Salon, both based inCromer worked tirelessly backstage with makeup and hair to make surethe girls were set for their moment in the spotlight. The girls were gracefully escorted down the catwalk by year 11 boys who were modelling their own array of tuxedos, with the show culminating in

an upbeat grand finaleparade.

The evening was a roaring success and it was great to see the community work together to produce sucha dazzling event for thestudents of the academy.

SOS Radio Week 2013Cheque PresentationOn the morning of Sunday 17 March members of the Bittern DX Group(amateur radio) involved with the GB5SLB SES, part of SOS RadioWeek 2013 back in January returned to Sheringham Lifeboat Station toofficially present them with the cheque. After a very quick ceremonyBDXG Chairman Steve Balding G7VRK handed over £475 to DavidHagan, Senior Helmsman of the lifeboat on the slipway.

Online donations of £25 have already been forwarded to RNLI HQ viathe group’s Just Giving page so in total the GB5SLB event raised £500,a fantastic end to a wonderful SES! These funds were raised mostlyfrom a raffle with the 1st prize of a Celebration Cake by “Mellie MakesCakes” from Happisburgh along with generous donations. They are already looking for prizes for 2014 should anyone be able to assist, please contact this event’s organiser Ken Holloway MØSHK via thegroup’s website www.bittern-dxers.org.uk or contact the Secretary forany further information of future events etc.

The children and adults were visitedby Poppyline Education Team, led byJenny Phillips, and experienced anEvacuee Day.

The action kicked off with a mock air raid and bomb explosion as thechildren, dressed and labelled as evacuees from Bethnall Green in London, lined up in the playground. A recording of enemy bombers and finally the all clear siren was playedas the children crouched in the schoolhall.

Treasure Hunt finds aFlash Mob in Cromer! The Rocket House Cafe saw Becky Betts of Norfolk Radio’s TreasureHunt Show surprised by a singing flash mob on Easter Monday.

Becky Betts was following her last set of clues for the programme, whenshe was told that she had to sing before an audience before she could begiven the next clue. Becky was at the busy Rocket House Cafe onCromer’s sea front, when she was told she had to sing Do-Re-Mi fromThe Sound of Music.

Becky was worried that her singingwould put customers off their coffee and scones, but was assuredthat all would be well. As she beganto sing, customers joined in andsoon more than twenty members of the Cromer and Sheringham Operatic and Dramatic Societywere in full voice. The Cromer andSheringham Operatic and DramaticSociety (CSODS) are putting on themusical, The Sound of Music at thePavilion Theatre at the end of May.An emotional Becky was handed tissues as well as the next clue as thesong ended. As she left to get to the final clue of the show, the membersof CSODS went out to the radio car and sang, So Long, Farewell, asBecky drove off to complete the Treasure Hunt.

The Sound of Music will be at the Pavilion Theatre, Cromer from 25thMay to 1st June.

Tickets are available from the Pavilion Box Office. 01263 - 512495

Evacuee Day at The BelfryMonday 25 March saw The Belfry C of E Primary School in Overstrand take a leap back in time.

The event was organised as part of the school History Topic, Within Living Memory. Ten members of the Poppyline Education Team led activities including Dig for Victory, ARP Billeting and Rationing wherethe children made a lunch prepared by themselves using food similar to that available during WW2. With chocolate biscuits and crisps missing from their usual lunch the children started to understand howfood which is now taken for granted, was so different then. The childrenlearned about growing food and took home the beans and peas theyplanted in pots.

The children also experienced being left to one side as their friends were chosen and joined a new family and themes were running in theclassrooms which the children had asked to study including childhood, homes and re-housing and war torn Britain in the 1940s.

The busy and happy day ended with the school getting together in thehall to watch a black and white silent film and a good sing song from thefirst and second World Wars.

Maria Ball has done the rightthing – Norman LambMaria Ball, Chair of the East of England Ambulance Trust, has resignedwith immediate effect. The announcement comes after the Trust wasfound to be failing to meet key standards on the care and welfare of peo-ple who use the service, during a recent inspection by the Care QualityCommission.

There have been long-running complaints and concerns about ambu-lance waiting times in rural parts of the county. The CQC report praisedfrontline staff but highlighted slow response times to emergency callsand a “significant inequity of service” between rural and urban areas. Itis the first time an ambulance trust anywhere in the country has beenfound to be failing on this measure.

Norman Lamb, MP for North Norfolk, has been pursuing this issue re-lentlessly for more than a year and has met with the Trust several timessince October 2011. He was promised action plans and improvements, but these promises were not delivered.

Commenting, Norman Lamb said “I believe that Maria Ball has donethe right thing. The performance of the Trust has caused enormous con-cern in Norfolk. It’s essential now that we get strong leadership to turnthis Trust around and to ensure that local people have a service that theycan rely on.”

Briston’s MusicalMulti-Handiman!Despite the cold weather, the Briston Organ Show last monthwas still a well-attended affair, with a warm audience thrilling tothe superb playing of top keyboard artist Jon Smith, who hadtravelled down in atrocious weather all the way from Sheffield!

Using a Yamaha Tyros keyboard and a Wersi performer organ, he gaveus two hours of solid top quality live music - at times even playing bothinstruments at the same time, as well as singing!

His programme included the ever popular 'Forgotten Dreams', butuniquely played as a waltz(!), the bouncy 'Come Follow The Band' from Barnum, some stunning vocals with 'The Nearness of You' and 'S'Wonderful', toetappers like 'Save The Last Dance For Me' and 'BlackIs Black', and for organ enthusiasts we got a good selection of bouncy'Blackpool' numbers played in true Wurlitzer style! His gentle humourfilled in the gaps between items, and the audience all roared for an encore as the evening came to a close.

MC Mick Leary told the audience that the show had raised £120 for theCopeman Centre Funds, and nearly £60 for the Air Ambulance, so theevening was a good result for everyone.

There are about eight organ shows in Briston each year - the next is on Friday 10 May, when top UK organist Steve Hubble will be at theCopeman Centre for the first time.

Tickets are just £6, with under 16s getting in for just £3. Advance booking is always essential, and you can reserve your ticketsnow by telephoning Carol on 01263 860844.

Perhaps we might see you there as well next time!

When cats come into care they experience a completely different environment to that which they have been used to. Some join us fromhomes where they have received lots of loving care, others have beenbadly treated by their owners and some have been living outside forsome time. Although they will be treated with kindness and affection, receive regular meals and have any problems/conditions attended to theyare confined to an area much smaller that what they are used to. Somesettle into their new accommodation straight away while others will taketime to accept the changes in their lives. Timid cats usually benefit fromhaving somewhere to hide and provision is made for them to do so.Some others react by hissing and growling and we find the best policy is to ignore the cats, get on with the feeding and cleaning and they willsoon come round. We find it is best for the cat to settle at its own paceand this always works, given time.

The same applies but in reverse when a cat leaves us with its new family. They are leaving us to take up residence in a far larger space with lots of new noises and sometimes new companions (feline or otherwise). This is particularly true when applied to kittens who may been with ussince birth. Sometimes a cat will arrive at its new home and react as if it

has always been there but this is the exception rather than the rule. We usually suggest the cat is confined to one or two rooms to beginwith, their food dishes and litter trays placed in quiet corners (but not together) and allowed to get used to their new home gradually. Somecats may hide and Stephanie gets calls from worried new owners whenthis happens. She advises them that it is best to let them come out whenthey feel comfortable to do so and just give them time. We cannot emphasise enough how important it is not to worry if your new cat is not immediately a lap cat but that with time and patience they will settleand be the cat you were looking for. If you acknowledge this fact thetransition period will be so much easier for your family and the cat.

If you are looking for a cat or kitten please give Stephanie a call on01692 535858. Alternatively you can visit www.cats.org.uk/northwal-sham for a description and photographs of the cats before giving a callon the above number.

Of however you are interest in receiving help to neuter your cat/kittenplease ring 07880 256948 to see if you are eligible for a voucher.

North Norfolk beach huts andchalets – get 50% off weekly hireHaving a base by the sea makesspending time at the beach so

much easier, whether you use it tostore beach essentials, as a placeto get changed after a dip, or justwant to shelter with a flask and abook from bracing breezes. AndNorth Norfolk District Council(NNDC) is giving local residentsand visitors the opportunity toenjoy a seaside beach hut orchalet at half price from earlyApril to the end of June this year.

Subject to availability, this veryspecial offer applies to weeklylets of beach huts in Mundesley,Sheringham and Cromer from 6April to 29 June. Prices normally start at £45 per week, so some luckypeople will be able to enjoy a hut or chalet for a week on one of northNorfolk’s fabulous beaches for less than £23, making it just over £3 aday, for up to a maximum of three weeks!

NNDC Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Corporate Assets, Rhodri Oliver, said, “Our fabulous resort beaches are always busy andwe rarely have enough beach huts or chalets available to satisfy demandin the main summer holiday period. But earlier and later in the year weusually have a few vacancies. This year we thought it would be better tomake them available at a lower price, so that they could all be used andenjoyed by more people. I hope lots of people will be able to take upthis very special offer.”

From April 2013 there will be major changes in the public funding of legal costs for familywork. The availability of legal aid has reducedover recent years with less people being financially eligible and the number of firms of solicitors offering legal aid reducing. Thefurther cut backs will mean that from April2013 legal aid as we have known it will nolonger be available.

Until now those people financially eligible hadbeen entitled to advice from a solicitor on suchthings as divorce and separation to include financial disputes and arrangements for theirchildren on a relationship breakdown. FromApril 2013 only those cases involving domesticviolence will legal aid be granted for. This will leave a large group of people that had previously been able to receive legal aid not receiving this. The situation has been deteriorating with the number of firms offeringlegal aid reducing so that it has been very difficult for even those financially eligible to find a local solicitor able to offer them legal aid. From now on very few people will qualify for legal aid.

The government has stated it is committed to individuals finding alternative ways of resolving disputes rather than the courts beinginvolved. Mediation will continue to befunded under the legal aid system that remainsand individuals are being encouraged to take

more responsibility for their lives and therepercussions of a separation. Collaborativelaw and other methods of avoiding court involvement will become even more important.Collaborative law is one of the methods of individuals keeping control of the situation and in a more common sense way meeting and reaching decisions rather than these beingimposed by a Judge.

The courts are expecting an influx of peoplerepresenting themselves without solicitors because they cannot afford to have solicitor actfor them. This could cause a meltdown in thecourt system which is already under pressurefrom its own financial cutbacks. Relationshipbreakdown can be a very emotional time and ifpeople are representing themselves they do nothave the same objectivity and professionalismthat a solicitor will bring to negotiations or anycourt proceedings. The courts and Judges aretherefore expecting considerable problems. The role of solicitors will be even more important especially in situations where bothparties to a divorce are not represented. Collaborative law and mediation as means of keeping control of the process and reducingthe legal costs involved will be increasinglypopular. Alternative methods of funding legalcosts will also become more common such aschildren asking their parents or other relativesto assist them.

The government’s view is that in a situationwhere there are limitedresources funds cannot be made available forlegal aid to cover an individuals divorce. This competes with theprovision of other public services such as hospitals or schools. However, the knock oneffect is that many people experiencing themost difficult period of their lives may findthemselves without legal advice and makingdecisions that will have massive long term effects on their lives. Not taking legal adviceis a big decision that someone could regret fora long time as you only get “one bite of thecherry” in dealing with the repercussions of a separation or a divorce.

“This article aims to supply general information, butit is not intended to constitute advice. Every effort ismade to ensure that the law referred to is correct atthe date of publication and to avoid any statementwhich may mislead. Changes to Legal AidBy Neale Grearson, Partner and Collaborative Lawyer at Hayes + Storr

Looking back 12 months I was commenting on a very mild winter and a potential hosepipe ban. How things can changein a year! The Cromer Marrams green will openthis year on Saturday 20 April and as usualmembers will be arriving to pay their fees, fillin competition forms and even if the weatherimproves hoping to get out on the green to havetheir first ‘roll up’ of the season. I am pleasedthat this year Sue Ealden of the Cromer Marrams Club is the Norfolk County Women’sPresident. I am sure that ladies from the clubwill be supporting her in County Friendlygames throughout the county. The club will alsobe hosting a Presidential game in Septemberbetween Sue’s Norfolk ladies and a team selected and captained by the Norfolk Men’sPresident, Peter Cottee. This year Mick Weddupis our Club President and he is looking forwardto an enjoyable and successful season for all theclub. David Ealden continues to manage the finances and Roger Greef has taken over thereins as Club Secretary. Graham Hall continuesas our Captain for the Wednesday eveningHansells League and John Andreae continueswith his magic touch to lead the well named’Crabs’ team on Tuesday evenings in the Feder-ation County League. A change of teams in the

league will mean thatthe players will have tobe on top form if theyare once again going towin the League. BernieCrow our man of many

tasks has relinquished the Captaincy of the‘Crows’ and last years President Kay Hazel-wood has stepped in to take charge. RogerPurser our Men’s Bowls Secretary multitasks asCaptain of the afternoon NANSA League teamand he too will hope that the team that won theLeague last season, and achieved promotion, can compete just as well in the Division above. That afternoon league proved very popular lastseason and clearly it was a good decision on thepart of the club to enter the league. I have to saythat the afternoon games do make up for theloss of some of the friendly games, which arereducing year on year. It does seem that the cost of travelling, the age of players and unfortunately the continuing loss of bowlers toclubs in both County and Country is having itsimpact on these games. Club captain John Porthouse will be looking however to have assuccessful a season as possible with the gamesthat have been arranged with visiting clubs.Federation League starts on Tuesday 30th April,Hansells League on Wednesday 1st May andthe afternoon NANSA League shortly after.

As I say every year, even if you are not a member please feel free to come along and see us from opening days onwards. You never

know, we may beable to talk you intovisiting the following

week and having a try on the green yourself orsimply join us as a social member. Remember“Don’t say no before you have had a go”.

Dress code for the morning “roll ups” is ‘casual’ other than the required flat soled shoes. We have some shoes and bowls available for use at the club if, you want to join us and have a go.

During the winter season the club regular quiznights have continued but unfortunately one ortwo evenings have been curtailed due to theweather. However John Blackburn is lookingforward to his quiz final shortly and I am surethat a tightly fought competition with takeplace. John has also looked after the regularshort short mat afternoon sessions. That is not atyping error. The clubhouse is not large enoughto take full sized short mat – if that makes sense- but successful afternoons have taken place onour much reduced version of the game. EdnaBunkle and Frank Thwaites have also producedmany brain teasing questions during the winterand with a few social night thrown in it hasbeen good to see club members keeping intouch with each other during this very cold period. It was very pleasing recently to be invited to Suffield Park Bowls Club to take part in a social evening with them where gamesof darts were the main part of the evening followed by a buffet.

I know why they invited us to play darts asCromer Marrams only seemed to win about twogames all evening! I think that next wintermaybe they will be invited for a return matchplaying bowls on our short short mat.

Overstrand Evening WIWe welcomed Jacqui Palmer from the Henry Blogg Museum in Cromerto our March meeting. Jacquie talked about the great man, Henry Blogg, who is the most highly decorated RNLI crew member ever. Jacqui gavemembers an insight into his bravery by relating the rescue which tookplace in heavy gales in December 1933. Following attending a distresscall from further down the coast, lifeboat HF Bailey was called back toCromer where the Sepoy was in dire trouble. The old rowing lifeboatAlexandra had been launched but under such extreme conditions wasunable to help. This was a particularly courageous rescue where, in a de-termined manoeuvre Henry Blogg put the HF Bailey over the deck, firstrescuing the Mate returning to save the Captain. Jacqui’s descriptionwas accompanied with photos taken from the beach, showing thelaunching of the Alexandra and the desperate situation of the Sepoy, with both Captain and Mate clinging to the barge’s rigging. Our April meeting will be on Wednesday 17th when Liz Crane willdemonstrate flower arranging with a Springtime theme. Our monthlymeetings commence at 7.30pm in the Parish Hall in The Londs. Visitorsare always most welcome.

Cromer Times 419 April 13th 201312

This week’s recipe comes from the fiery imagination of David Chattenden, my chef departie here at the Grove. He’s found his way to the quiet backwater of Cromer from the hustle, bustle and bright lights of Norwich, which of course means he uses some big words from time to time, but we usually justunderstand what he’s saying and I have to saythat he does make the most incredible stickytoffee pudding.

The season is upon us after a long, cold winterand the Grove is already very busy. The houseitself always seems to enjoy being full withpeople and I do hope you get the chance tocome up and see us for lunch, dinner, the bestSunday roast in North Norfolk, or to lookround our brand new Orchard Rooms, fiveguest bedrooms set in the grounds which are already proving a massive hit.

In the meantime, enjoy David’s Sticky ToffeePuddin’, and I look forward to seeing yousoon.
