Welcome ...to our annual production sale. We have been breeding Red Angus seedstock for over 25 years. Our goal has always been low birth weight, easy-calving, highly maternal cows. We manage our cattle as a herd in a range environment with a “no excuses” rule.

We would like to welcome you to our annual production sale and treat you to coffee and sweets in the morning, lunch at noon and an excel-lent offering of Red Angus cattle. We would offer any assistance you desire in understanding the information presented in this catalog and evaluating the bulls and females.

OUR GOAL: Produce functional cattle for our short grass, semi-arid environment, and provide honest value and service to our customers.

OUR PROGRAM: Our program is founded on balanced-trait selec-tion using proven sires. We put the emphasis on carcass, mainte-nance and reproductive traits including low birth weight, and we do not chase extreme growth. These traits add value through carcass quality, lower maintenance costs, increased longevity of the females and reduced labor inputs with the added benefi t of the accompanying “convenience traits.”

The growth traits do require extra inputs. We focus on fertile, easy-handling females with mothering ability. The cattle presented here are out of cows that are bred to work within our limited resources, produc-ing calves that excel at weaning, perform in the feedyard and add value on the rail. We hold our females to a “no excuses” production criteria. If they can’t raise a calf every year in our environment, they are culled from the herd.

PROGENY EVALUATION: The Red Angus breed was founded on progeny testing and we believe in using all the tools available to increase selection accuracy. Calves from our cow herd stay on our ranch and are evaluated to end product, be it seedstock or feeder cattle.

Keeping contemporary groups of signifi cant size is one of the most im-portant aspects of performance testing. We manage our cows to keep large contemporary groups. We use this large group data to select our replacements and bull candidates. After weaning, the groups are split into seedstock and feeder groups. The seedstock groups are evalu-ated with yearling weights, growth measurements and ultrasound. The feeders all get yearling weights taken, and the real carcass data is identifi ed back to both the sire and the dam. This improves the genetic predictability of the cow herd.

DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM: The bulls were developed on the ranch. They were grazed out after weaning for a month and then fed a high quality roughage ration with a vitamin-mineral supplement to gain 3.25 lb/day on average. They are kept in a large dry pen, which gives the bulls plenty of exercise. We do not target 1300 or 1400 lb yearling weights. The bulls are developed to make their own way on the range and hold up to the rigors of their fi rst breeding season.

HEALTH: The Cow Herd is vaccinated at Pre-Breeding time with Bovi-Shield Gold 5 FP, Spirovac L5, and Vibrin. At Preg Check time they are given a 7 way, Scour Bos 9 and wormed.

The heifers have had their branding, preconditioning, and weaning shots of 5 way BRD, pasteurella, 7 way Somnus, and parasite control. Recently they had their Pre-Breeding exam, Bangs vaccination, Bovi-Shield Gold 5 FP, Spirovac L5, and Vibrin. They are ready to breed!

Bulls get the same calf vaccinations as the heifers, plus a Spirovac L5 vaccination in November. Dr. Wade Shoemaker will Fertility Test all bulls with the results provided with each bull sold.

THEY ARE GUARANTEED BREEDERS & READY TO WORK!

CATALOG INFORMATION: All EPDs, including carcass, have been updated to refl ect the latest P+ numbers supplied by the Red Angus Association. P+ EPDs are pedigree EPDs adjusted by the indi-vidual’s performance ratios. The measurement data taken on the bulls and heifers with their in-herd performance ratios are listed in a table just below the EPDs.

Extended pedigrees can be seen on the Red Angus website (www.RedAngus.org). Enter the reg. # in the table accessed by the “Animal Search” button.

Sale day announcements of corrections and changes will take prece-dence over the catalog information.

SELECTION: We do supply all the raw measurement data and in-herd performance ratios; but when making your selections, more reliance should be put on the EPDs. Our listed P+ EPDs have already factored in each animal’s performance ratios, including the carcass ultrasound data. To aid in your interpretation and application of the RAAA EPDs, the Red Angus Association has published “Ranchers Guide to EPDs.” You can get a brochure by calling the Association (940-387-3502). This is an excellent source of information and is worth requesting a copy. Of course we will help you interpret any of the information in this catalog.


SALE TERMS:• Animals are unconditionally guaranteed to be sound and to be breeders

for the fi rst breeding season. Bulls are guaranteed to have libido and heifers are guaranteed to cycle. We do not guarantee against injury or illness.

• Each animal will be at the buyer’s risk as soon as sold, but will be cared for by the seller after the sale. Animals need to be picked up by April 15th.

• The bulls and heifers will have passed a Breeding Soundness exam.• Health papers will be provided by Dr. Shoemaker.• Free delivery of bulls for the fi rst 250 miles. After 250 miles delivery will

be charged at cost. Deliveries will be scheduled as soon after the sale as possible. We do not offer free delivery on heifers but will work with the buyer to arrange delivery if needed.

• A $50 credit will be given to purchasers who pick up their bulls by April 15th.

• A $50 credit will be given to purchasers of multiple bulls.• We will be retaining an interest in bulls we designate. They will be noted

in this catalog. Any semen collection is at buyer’s convenience. Buyer has full possession & full salvage value.

• Registration papers will be transferred to the buyer which provides eligibility for the RAAA FCCP.

Replacement female candidates were grazed out until December then fed a high rough-age ration. We remove the high birth weight, extreme frame heifers from the fi rst selection and use a wean-ing ratio cutoff of 94. From this point we continue the evaluation using performance and func-tional soundness for criteria. The sale heifers were selected to be a representative cross section of the fi nal group. The below tables compare the sale heifers to all our 2010 replacements.
