Q: Where were you born? A: I was born in a small town along

the seaside on the eastern central Italy, with a lighthouse on the green hills where I enjoyed endless skies and many horizons and liked to swim.

Q: Where do you currently live?A: I currently live between the sweet

Italian seaside and an historical city along the Silk Road in the Caucasus: Tbilisi, the Capital of Georgia. I love its mix of culture between east and west and it’s where my husband and part of my family live.

Q: Favorite toy as a child?A: Books, crayons, record player,

records and a red bike! I still like all of them, just my books and colors are digital now, I listen to mp3s and my bike is blue!

Q: If you could go to a place back in time for a one day visit— when and where?

A: The captain of a pirate ship in the Caribbean Sea. Ahoy!

Q: Where were you born? A: Cleveland, Ohio

Q: Where do you currently live?A: Although I moved away

for several years, I am still living in Cleveland.

Q: Where did you do your art training?A: I graduated from Bowling Green State

University with a BFA in painting

Q: Favorite toy as a child?A: My favorite toy was a large collection of

miniature plastic animals that I cherished and played with everyday. It's the only toy from my childhood that I still have.

Q: Favorite picture book as a child?A: I vividly remember being fascinated

by the illustrations in the set of Childcraft books we had growing up. Some made me happy, some scared me-but they definitely had an impact on me, either way! I also remember loving the book The Color Kittens by Margaret Wise Brown.

Q: Artists that have inspired you?A: I am inspired by so many artists and

illustrators including Mary Blair, Alice and Martin Provensen, Jim Flora and, Charlie Harper. I was also very inspired by my favorite Saturday morning cartoons like Bugs Bunny, Rocky and Bullwinkle, and the Tex Avery classics, of course.

Q: Where were you born? A: Born in Glasgow, Scotland

Q: Where do you currently live?A: I live in Crail, a tiny medieval fishing

village on the East Coast of Scotland near St. Andrews.

Q: Where did you do your art training?

A: I trained at the Edinburgh College of Art and at the Royal College of Art in London, where Quentin Blake was head of Illustration.

Q: Favorite toy as a child?A: My favorite toy as a child was my bike.

Q: Favorite picture book as a child?A: I loved to read boys comics

including The Eagle.

Q: Artists that have inspired you?A: The work of the artists Rousseau

and Marc Chagall are favorites. Illustrators I admire are Laurent de Brunhoff (Babar books) and Seymour Chwast and Edward Gorey.

DAVID SIM

Q: Where were you born? A: Fort Worth, TX

Q: Where do you currently live?A: Dallas, TX

Q: Where did you do your art training?A: I took oil painting classes from the

time I was 12 until I graduated high school. I studied graphic design at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Q: Favorite toy as a child?A: Legos!

Q: Favorite picture book as a child?A: Go, Dog. Go! by P.D. Eastman

Charles Shultz, Chuck Jones, M. Sasek


A: I would travel to 1955 for the grand opening of Disneyland. And I would ride every ride.

Q: Where were you born? A: I’m from the sunny Seville,

in the South of Spain.

Q: Where do you currently live?A: I live in the green and rainy

Gijón, in the North of Spain.

Q: Where did you do your art training?A: I took a college degree in Biology.

Q: Favorite toy as a child?A: Legos.

Q: Favorite picture book as a child?A: Richard Scarry’s Peasant Pig

and the Terrible Dragon.

Q: Artists that have inspired you?A: Countless! Just to name a few:

M. Sasek, Chuck Jones, Adrian Johnson and Amanda Visell.

Q: If you could go to a place back in time for a one day visit—when and where?

A: I'd probably go back to when I was 8 and tell myself: “Buy as much acid strawberry chewing gum as you can, they're going to be discontinued!”

Q: Where did you do your art training?A: I majored in studio art

at Skidmore College.

theater. A close second was a Fli-Back.

A: I can’t remember the particulars, but I loved a book of especially gruesome, but beautifully-illustrated fairy tales – a gift from someone who never had a nightmare.
