Unique internal featuresSafety is an absolute priority and inside thefunctional unit compartment it is clearlydemonstrated in the mounting of the circuitbreakers. Both the live and load sides of theswitch are completely shrouded to preventinadvertent contact with live parts, andcopper connections to busbars areinsulated and shrouded for added safety.

In terms of separation, metallic barriers areused between each functional unit and alsobetween functional units and busbarchambers. This degree of separationprovides further safety from live parts, andprotects against a fault in one compartmentpropagating to an adjacent compartment.Horizontal and vertical busbar chambers arepositioned and sized to ensure the busbarsand connections can be accessed at anytime during the life cycle of the switchboard.

Each busbar compartment is provided withan outer door and a secondary captivethermal imaging screen. This method allowsefficient and safe monitoring of busbars andconnections with our infrared thermalimaging cameras.

Mardix LV switchboards incorporate AirCircuit Breakers (ACBs), Moulded CaseCircuit Breakers (MCCBs) and fuseswitches. Typical brands used for these

purposes are Schneider, Terasaki and ABB,which are recognised as high integritycomponents. If you have width and heightconstraints in your plant room you mayrequire double stacking of ACBs and highdensity stacking of MCCBs. Mardix haveType Tested these arrangements to ensurethey perform under temperature rise.

Forms of Separation for our LV switchboardsare typically Form 4 Type 2, Form 4 Type 5,Form 4 Type 6 and Form 4 Type 7 (pleaserefer to Forms of Separation section). Wecan accommodate all forms in front and rearaccess configurations and we always ensureglanding plates and cableways are thecorrect size and cable boxes can accept thespecified cable sizes.

Separate compartments are designated formetering, control and BMS terminals.Contacts for BMS are internally wired andtaken to BMS terminal rails. Protection fusesand control components are clearly labelledand cross referenced to our schematicdrawings.

3D solid modelling designEvery switchboard Mardix produces isdesigned in-house using 3D design expertise. Once the overall assembly design is complete, it is transferred to the CAD/CAM team at our fabrication centre where the assembly is analysed andseparated into subassemblies and partsof varying materials including steel, copper, aluminium, polycarbonates and plastics.

We invest a significant amount of time during the design process perfecting the top level assembly which is automatically checked for accuracy, clearance and zero clashing parts.

Our design teams work collaboratively through shared managed resources. Our standards are controlled by innovative logic automation.

The build teams have access to the 3D models throughout the build process which enables them to interrogate the build from the floor which in turn drives efficiencies.

Mardix can design, manufacture and supply the right solution for your power needs.

Our range of package substations is ASTA certified and incorporates features such as reduced footprint designs and steel clad busbar chambers.

Our dedicated switchgear engineers expertly install and commission both the MV and LV sides, ensuring all systems, including life safety interlocks, offer the optimum in performance.

Providing unrivalled quality and maintainability, our substations are custom built to suit your particular space requirements. They can be specially configured to include benefits such as a 40% increase in output, and the option of remote transformer and LV switchgear coupling using our own interconnecting busbar system.

Our substations are tailored to your needs and you only deal with one point of contact, which makes purchasing easy.

The high quality and choice of transformers is matched by our impartial and considerable experience with leading providers of MV switchgear and our own custom built LV distribution products.

MV options are made up from Ringmaster switchgear including compact Ring Main Units (RMU), circuit breakers or disconnecting switches.

Package Substations

Transformers can be ordered with a choice of losses including standard loss, low loss, or capitalised losses. Here’s a run down of the three main types to consider:

Cast resin

For the ultimate in fire safety for indoor installations, cast resin is unbeatable.

Certification can include ‘F1’ fire behaviour class certification - the best fire rating available for distribution transformers,‘E2’ environmental classification and ‘C2’ climatic classification.

Ratings are from 160kVA right up to 10MVA, with highest voltage levels up to 36kV.

Oil insulated

Highly refined mineral oil is used to insulate internal live parts of the transformer, preventing corona and managing temperature control inside the transformer, which avoids overheating.

Ideal for use in large project applications, the transformers are very safe over long period operations due to the oil having non-combustible properties.

Synthetic fluids such as Midel

In addition to mineral oil filled transformers, we can help you specify an extensive range of transformers with either Midel or Silicone high fire point fluid fillings to meet the most demanding fire risk requirements.

The transformers are filled as standard with mineral oil in accordance with BS 148. For instances in which a higher fire rating is needed, the transformers are available filled with high fire point fluid(Midel 7131).

This transformer coolant has a fire point in excess of 300˚C and provides additional security when the installation is adjacentto buildings.

iPDU technologyMardix technology delivers all the benefits of extensive industry experience, and our iPDU™ technology is no exception.

Our unique understanding of critical power management issues and a programme of continuous research and development underpin every Mardix iPDU™.

In the modern critical power environment data centre operators face several new challenges:

1The improvement of energy efficiency. The ability to measure the energy consumption of IT equipment is

afundamental data centre requirement. Measurement enables operators to improve energy efficiency and accurately and fairly allocate energy costs to users.

2 Ever increasing server power demands The need to establish the available capacity of the power

distribution network, and the individual server racks, makes it necessary to continuously monitor actual power loadings against known unit ratings.

3 Uninterrupted power to IT equipment. Because the maintenance of uninterrupted power to IT equipment

remains as crucial as ever, it is vitally important to identify potential problems before they cause disruption and costly downtime. Designed to address these challenges, the Mardix iPDU™ incorporates advanced technology configured to provide circuit current, power, and energy monitoring down to individual rack level.

Alarms, status diagnostics, and essential measurements are integrated to ensure effective and continuous critical power management. Since its launch the MardixiPDU™ has set the industry standard due to its level of functionality and ease of integration, and is now monitoring more than 500,000 circuits in data centres across the UK and mainland Europe.

Continued in-house research and development based upon client feedback has ensured that the Mardix iPDU™maintains its position as the leading choice of intelligent Power Distribution Units.

It is widely used in facilities ranging from small communications rooms right through to the largest data centres of the world’s foremost blue chip companies.

Accurate and billable measurement of final circuit energy consumption

Each final circuit has true rms metering at Class 1 accuracy ensuring that an accurate and billable energy value can be attributed to each server rack or itemof free standing IT equipment. Immediate identification of issues with rack or server supplies

Undercurrent final circuit alarms ensure that a distribution MCB trip/blown fuse or server failure resulting in reduced load will trigger an instant alarm identifying the specific circuit at fault

Ensure final circuit ratings are not exceeded

Overcurrent final circuit alarms will ensure that no distribution MCB/fuse will be overloaded and that client server racks do not exceed agreed supply capacity

At-a-glance PDU status

By using the circuit overview active power flow mimic you can visualise PDU supplies, breakers and Static Transfer Switch (STS) status without the need to open doors

Don’t miss any events

Onboard alarm logs ensure that brief or intermittent alarms are recorded for later analysis

Long term reliability

Large volume global use over several years has demonstrated an extremely high level of reliability for all of the Mardix iPDUs™monitoring components - including the market leading Schneider Electric Branch Power Meter (BPM). The BPM featured in new build iPDUs™ utilises a current transducer, which is fixed to a strip ensuring that (unlike alternative plug-in current transducers) detachment during transit is not possible. Interface between the current transducers and BPM “head” unit has also been specifically designed to avoid EMC interference within the iPDU™

User configurable circuit schedule

Users can enter and amend text for each final circuit denoting circuit reference

Thermal monitoring capability

High temperature is a very useful indicator of any problems that may occur within the PDU. The Mardix iPDU™ can monitor the ambient temperature within each section and, when necessary, provide over temperature alarms based upon a comparison against manufacturers’ recommended set points

Busbar Trunking SystemsThe IBAR range of power distribution busbar trunking system products has been developed to meet the growing demands of the critical power industry.

Employing innovative designs to improve performance and reduce costs we have invested in the best available technologies to ensure our finished product is of the highest quality.

Our highly skilled engineering teams and applications engineers can tailor a solution to meet even the most demanding requirements.

IBAR employs more than 50 years of leading-edge experience incorporating all the quality, reliability and innovation for which our group is renowned. All IBAR product is manufactured within the UK to the latest British Standards (BS EN 61439-6).

IBAR HX is a range of high power busbar trunking systems. HX utilises a sandwich arrangement of individually insulated Copper (HXC) or Aluminium (HXA) busbars (using a specialist epoxy resin coating) which are contained within a unique two piece, IP55 rated, Aluminium trunking / housing.

From small scale to multi million pound projects, we hope you will make IBAR your first choice for busbar.

Full product brochures for the HXC / HXA and Tap-offs are available online at www.ibar-emea.com

Feeder Busbar

There are many applications which require the ability to move large amounts of power; the most common of which is the transmission of power between transformers and low voltage switchboards and then further sub-distribution.

IBAR’s HX range provides a high-power transmission busbar solution with busbar ratings ranging from 800A up to 6300A.

Each rating type can be supplied with between 3 and 6 conductive bars arranged in a sandwich type construction and insulated with a specialist epoxy resin coating.

Configurations are available for 3-phase, 3-phase and neutral / protected earth (for loads susceptible to harmonic distortion / leakage currents) and optional double rated neutral.

Distribution Busbar

Busbar trunking systems are favoured greatly over traditional fixed position cable installations due to the flexibility of the available tap-off locations.

The standard straight 3m lengths can be fitted with up to five specially engineered tap-off points at standard or custom locations. Each tap-off location features high-integrity weld-bonded connection tabs.

This high-quality, high-conductivity connection means that on copper conductor systems only a single tap-off location is required for tap-offs of up to 630A.
