Since its inception in 2005 — with the generous support of our community — the Abbotsford Police Foundation (APF) has been helping fund community policing initiatives and specialized equipment not covered by the annual operating budget of the Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD).

Who we are / what we do: The Abbotsford Police Foundation is a charitable organization that helps AbbyPD achieve their goal of making Abbotsford ‘The Safest City in BC’ in three key ways:

• Building Positive Relationships• Connecting Police with Community• Funding Engaging Programs

On October 21, 2020 the Abbotsford Police Foundation is hosting our sixth annual signature fundraising event — Breakfast with the Chief — Crime is Toast. Our goal for 2020 is to raise $75,000. To achieve this goal we need your help! I invite you to attend and bring along your colleagues, family and friends to show support for the great work of the brave men and women of the Abbotsford Police Department.

There is also an opportunity to show your support as a donor or sponsor for this high profile event. This package outlines who we are, our goals and objectives as well as the various levels of sponsorship and associated benefits. Why it matters: Growing communities like ours face enormous pressures on available resources at the very time they’re needed most. The AbbyPD cannot directly receive financial contributions; however the APF provides a trusted, practical way for you to support the work of our dedicated officers and help enhance public safety in Abbotsford.

We fund only AbbyPD initiatives: Each grant funding request we receive begins as an idea from an AbbyPD member, and must be approved by Chief Constable Mike Serr before coming to the APF board for consideration.

Your Generosity at Work.Thank you! Your generosity enables us to fund these important AbbyPD initiatives.

Abbotsford Police City Basketball Tournament - This tournament that attracts over 750 students annually promotes positive choices for youth through basketball.

Abbotsford Police Camp - This annual week-long day camp for kids helps them learn new skills while interacting with local police.

Youth Making Positive Choices - In 2019 the innovative AMPlify Positives initiative matched community funds to create a program to bring together youth, parents and AbbyPD school liaison officers to create positive outcomes.

Specialized Equipment - Each year we fundraise to purchase specialized equipment to help AbbyPD safeguard the community. Examples include the AbbyPD aerial drone and ATV Gator —both tools that enhance how police do their jobs. In 2018 we began fundraising for a police training simulator, and in 2019 — with your help — we will reach our fundraising goal so the training simulator unit can be purchased and operationalized.

K9 – In 2019 we purchased 4 Kevlar protective vests for the police dogs who are partnered with AbbyPD officers; and we launched a pilot ‘K9 retirement program’ to help defray costs for veterinary, food and insurance for the retired dogs.

APF Donation Policy: The Abbotsford Police Foundation (APF) reserves the right to refuse any donation. All donations over an amount determined by the board of directors will be subject to approval of the Chief Constable of the Abbotsford Police Department (“AbbyPD”). Any gifts not accepted will be returned to the donor. While the APF may fundraise for specific AbbyPD or other qualified donee purposes, it only accepts undesignated and unrestricted donations so that funds may be directed to the greatest need. When a donor wishes to donate to a specific project, the donation will be used for that project to the extent reasonably possible to meet the mission and priority needs of the APF, in the discretion of the board of directors. Regardless of any stated donor restriction or intention, donations designated toward a particular program or project will be received on the understanding that, when the need for such a program or project has been met or if it cannot be completed for any reason determined by the board of directors, the remaining funds will be used where needed most.
