Objectives of the day To inform NREN heads on the added value that C@ribNET
Portal will bring to their users and members To review the functionalities and tools available on the
C@ribNET portal, and discuss how they may enable and facilitatefunctional regional cooperation and collaboration
Experience the portal, hands on To consider the establishment of different types of virtual online
communities as the operating principle for cooperation andcollaboration amongst the NREN users (working groups, projectsgroups, interest groups, communities of practice), and learn what wemanaging a CoP is about.
To have each NREN start considering a plan for establishingvirtual communities on this portal, including outlining theprocesses, roles and responsibilities in support of their efficientoperation, and promotion and dissemination strategies.

Communities to organise a working group, a taskforce or just link up people and
organise thematic knowledge. Thematic or project oriented Can be public or private (content and publishing for members’ only) Created instantly (without moderation) As many as you need (but avoid too many) Membership can be open or by invitation only Tools /content are particular to each community (wiki, VC room,
discussion, events, albums, etc) Admin / ownership rights can be shared and
delegated You can have non-C@ribNET guests in the community video
conference room.

1. How to register
Make sure you have access to your organisation’sinstitutional email (Important: you can only have access withyour institutional mail; please do not use Yahoo mail, Hotmail,Gmail, Caribsurf etc.)
Go to www.caribnet.org and click on“register here”

Fill out the registration form(at leastall the fields marked *)
The password is notyour email password,but one you choosefor this portal

Select the organisation you belong to (and to which youremail account belongs)
If you do not belong to a university,for “InstitutionalRelationship” and“Faculty,” choose whatis closest to your reality
In the “Position” field,describe yourself moreaccurately
Don’t forget to AGREEwith our policies of use

Then you go to your email inbox and look for theinstructions on the validation mail
You click and … voila! You are done! (Next thing you want to do is edit your profile,
complete informationand upload a niceprofile picture.Or set up your emailNotificationpreferences)

From there, you can accessyour communities,
createone or search
and join others
By clickingOn “Communities,”
you are backto the portal entry

Known bugs
I’m logged in, and suddenly havemenus and content in SpanishSolution:
1.Reload (refresh) (F5) the page. It should reload in English2.If this has not solved it:

Got to www.caribnet.org Click log in to portal Once there, copy the URL in the
address bar and access the page.It should be all in good old English.
If the page still does not reload in English:email support [email protected] describing the error and include thelink to the page you visited
When you follow a link from an emailsent from the portal (such as an invitation,an announcement, etc.)
and you are not logged in (remember automaticlogout is 30 min.), you might :

…You may be asked to log in but get aweird Spanish page, without the mainmenu & frame…
