The site allowed for the connection of the resource centre and the multi-purpose hall through the use of a foyer space that could be used as a transitioning space for classes or breakout space for functions. The constraints on the site controlled a lot of the design, the two story building adjacent meant we had to re-design the building so the first floor GLA’s were on the road side of the building. This also meant that we had to add an additional stair to achieve our fire exit requirements. To speed up the building process the building is steel framed with a bondek slab for the first story. The external roof form was derived from the existing multi- purpose hall and is reflected on the internal curved ceilings in the resource centre and the GLA’s to create a feeling of space. The brief also called for a specific E-Learning centre, Learning For Life room, Science Technology & Information Centre and a Multimedia Room. Through the use of the form, and feature colours on the external CFC and corrugated sheeting the final result is a striking feature building fit for a new generation of learning.

Construction budget: $3.2 million

Cost per m2: $2550

The Resource building was located for its proximity to

the major part of the school and to provide amenities

to the existing multi-purpose hall, this required the

relocation of two demountable modular buildings. It

was decided that the lost classrooms would be

replaced with new General Learning Areas (GLA) on a

new first level. The site allowed for the connection of

the resource centre and the multi-purpose hall through

the use of a foyer space that could be used as a

transitioning space for classes or breakout space for

functions. The constraints on the site controlled a lot

of the design, the two story building adjacent meant

we had to re-design the building so the first floor

GLA’s were on the road side of the building. This also

meant that we had to add an additional stair to

achieve our fire exit requirements.

To speed up the building process the building is steel

framed with a bondek slab for the first story. The

external roof form was derived from the existing multi-

purpose hall and is reflected on the internal curved

ceilings in the resource centre and the GLA’s to create

a feeling of space. The brief also called for a specific

E-Learning centre, Learning For Life room, Science

Technology & Information Centre and a Multimedia

Room. Through the use of the form, and feature

colours on the external CFC and corrugated sheeting

the final result is a striking feature building fit for a new

generation of learning.
