Creek DECA Heads to Atlanta By: Nicole Benkelman
This year, Cherry Creek DECA will be taking 58 members to the National DECA Conference from April 20 to 25. Held in Atlanta, Georgia, this conference gives students a chance to compete against some of the best high school marketers, entrepreneurs, and salespeople in the nation. Students participating in DECA for the conference have been hard at work these past few weeks fine-tuning their
skills and projects. For many students, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete at a national level, and they are more excited than ever to be a part of this organization.
“I am so happy to be headed to Nationals,” said Emily Ancona, a senior in Cherry Creek DECA. “I never thought I would actually be going, and I couldn’t imagine a better way to end my senior year.” We wish you the best
of luck Emily! Most of our members will be
competing in written event categories where they present their ideas from their 30-page business proposals. These students have been working
hard on their projects A few members will be competing in role-play competitions. These involve a short preparation period where they read a situation, and then they must present and interact with a judge. In addition, some others will be attending two full days of leadership activities.
If you would like to one day be a part of this exciting club and trip, sign up for the Marketing 1 or 2 class next year and join us on a fun-filled adventure towards Nationals!

President and Manager Applications By: Christina Heese
It’s the time of year where juniors are applying to be the next DECA President or Bear Necessities manager. These two positions are extremely important and require a considerable commitment to Cherry Creek DECA.
The candidates applying to be the 2018-2019 DECA President must tape a speech for the Junior DECA Class. The speeches will be played to
Class is a blast! In Adolphi’s 2nd period Marketing class, we have too much fun. Time flies by for us students while learning about our most current topic, PRICING! Just recently, we were able to watch a video about maximizing profit. I personally love learning about pricing because it gives me insight to the complex determinants of a product’s worth; knowledge I may have never obtained without Marketing class.
students in all the Marketing 1 classes. Additionally, an interview will take place with the Marketing
teachers, who then will decide the next DECA President. Next year, the number of Bear Necessities managers is going from three to one. The Bear Necessities manager is a paid position and a
member of the executive team. All the interested students applying for this position must complete an
End-of-the-Year DECA Banquet By: Gianna Marlow
Save the date for Thursday, May 10th for this year's Cherry Creek DECA Banquet! This event is open to all DECA members and is an amazing opportunity for students to be recognized for their hard work. Seniors may receive a letter and the new DECA President and Bear Necessities Manager will be announced. Many awards and
recognition will be given to our amazing DECA members throughout the evening.
Our current President, Sam Cole, will start the night off welcoming special guests and students. Four former DECA alumni will be recognized and inducted into the Cherry Creek DECA Hall of Fame. “Friends of DECA” awards will also be presented to those
who have been a huge help to our club. Three $1,000 scholarships will also be
awarded to three seniors by the Marketing Advisory Committee. These events, as well as many more, will take place during the banquet at the Radisson Hotel at Denver Southeast, so
make sure to attend and celebrate our DECA achievements!
While talking about our most current subject is a blast, our Marketing class is much more than the required curriculum. We are a
fun class for sure. Every Friday we bring snacks for our weekly FOOD FRIDAY. Even in the worsts of
mornings, FOOD FRIDAY can turn anyone's frown upside down. I always love walking into Marketing; but on Fridays, I absolutely love walking into Marketing. Nothing starts the day off better than a box of donuts. Yum!
application in addition to being interviewed. Good luck to all the applicants! The next 2018-2019 DECA President and Bear Necessities Manager will be announced at the DECA Banquet on May 10 at the Radisson Hotel.

O n April 9th the
Rockies played the Padres at Coors Field. Creek DECA rented out its own section in left field. Some kids took the light rail and others drove down to Coors Field to enjoy the game. The weather was decent; good conditions for baseball except it was a little cold. The stadium was not super full but that's what you would expect for a Monday night game.
The game started with the Padres taking the lead. The Rockies were always
close behind, as every time the Padres scored they stayed right with them. There were 5 home runs in this game, three by the Padres and two by the Rockies. One was a controversial home run by Carlos Gonzalez. The outfielder seemed to
have the ball in his glove but it bounced out of his glove and into the stands at the last second. The game was close until the very end with
the Padres winning 7-6. Chloe Newson seemed to be the Rockies good luck charm because whenever she left the Padres scored runs. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough for the Rockies to win, but DECA members still had a great time!
March Madness MDA Tournament By: Eli Stoken
As spring-time comes around, it brings the best pleasures in life with it. Spring brings blooming flowers, longer days, bright sunshine, fresh fruit, and most important-ly March Madness. March Madness is the holy grail of all sporting events. For 3 weeks, sports fans around the country gath-er to watch both dominant perfor-
mances by the top teams in the nation, and thrilling buzzer beaters by Cinderel-la teams. In celebration of March Madness, Cherry Creek DECA put on the annual 3-on-3 March Mad-
ness tournament to raise money for MDA. After a weather delay pushed it back a week, the tournament took place on April 4th.
DECA students formed teams of three and paid $9 to enter the tourna-ment. The sudden death tournament raised money for the Muscular Dystrophy Organization while providing a fun so-
cial activity for DECA students. After a thrilling tournament Zach Guarino, Will Stein, and Peter McHugh emerged victorious. Champion Peter McHugh was thrilled with his win, stating that the tournament “brought out our competitive spirit” and that he looks forward to “winning the ‘ship next year”.

Fun to be had in Atlanta By: Audrey Urbanowicz
There are many fun things to do in Atlanta on our Nationals trip! One of the main attractions is 6 Flags with a roller coaster that goes 70 miles per hour! You can ride the Acrophobia, the Batman, and the
Georgia Scorcher. Another place to visit is the World of Coca-Cola
where you can learn all about Coke and get to see the production line and even try some of their products.
Another thing you can do is visit the Mercedes Benz Stadium that you can tour and get a behind the scenes look at the professional sports industry. You can also visit the aquarium, which is one of the best in the country and largest in the world!
You’ll be able to see whale sharks, penguins, seals and many more! Another thing DECA students can go to is the Andy Grammer concert; some of his most popular songs are “Keep
your Head Up”, “Fresh Eyes” and “Fine by Me”. Good luck to all our National competi-tors and enjoy the trip!
