Holiday fun facts: What state first declared Christmas a legal holiday, and what state produces the most christmas trees?

Alabama was the first state to declare Christmas a legal holiday in 1836. Christmas was declared an official holiday in the U.S. in 1870, and Oklahoma was the last state to declare the holiday in 1907.

It’s easy to be lulled into making the minimum payments on your credit cards. But take a closer

look at your statement to see what you could actually end up paying and how long it will take you to settle the score if you do so - and that’s without making any additional charges. If you have balances on multiple credit cards, that’s a heavy burden to face. And beware of making a late payment, or it will cost you even more in penalties - a late payment fee and the interest rate may skyrocket.

A Consolidation Loan from the credit union can lighten the load. With a credit union Consolidation Loan, we can help you pay off those high interest credit cards. Plus, you’ll only have one payment to make every month, a payment that you can put on autopilot so you won’t mistakenly forget it. So don’t wait a minute more, call on us today to ask about a Consolidation Loan.

Beware of payday loans

Payday Loans...they go by many names - quick cash loans, cash advance loans, deferred deposit loans,

check advance loans, post-dated check loans. Call them what you will, but avoid them at all costs! These loans are often advertised on TV and online as a quick fix for your financial troubles and promise to help in the short-term, but will only cause you major stress when it comes to long-term financial well-being.

A payday loan, in the simplest terms, is a relatively small amount of money (example, $100 - $1,500) lent at a very high rate of interest (example, APRs that range from 100% - 1000%) with the agreement that it will be repaid when the borrower receives their next paycheck. Due to such high interest rates and associated service fees, consumer advocates and lawmakers advise consumers to avoid payday loans. If you’re in need of a short-term loan, avoid these classic payday loan features:

PSCU can help with affordable loans

1. Full payment due by next payday

2. High fees from $35 upwards if loan is extended and not paid on time

3. Triple digit Annual Percentage Rate (APR)

4. Failure to pay = costly consequences

5. Fast or quick cash, or “Get money now” language
