With an increasingawareness of the impor-tance of hormone bal-ance in maintaininghealth and well-being,both women and men areturning to Linda Evans,MD, and Premiere Cen-ter for Health & Well-ness.

Dr. Evans, Cincin-nati’s leading hormonebalance specialist, hasbeen in practice formore than 20 years withan extensive medicalbackground in hormonehealth.

She fully understandsthe importance of hor-mone balance and takespride in providing herpatients with the bestindividualized safe andeffective medical op-tions.

Hormone imbalancecan be difficult to recog-nize. Bothersome issuescan begin in the 30s, andcan lead to irregularperiods, mood swings,PMS, headaches, in-somnia, anxiety, depres-sion, memory and con-centration loss, low libi-do, hot flashes, dry skin, dry eye, thinning hair, urinary incontinenceand osteoporosis.

Perhaps the best rec-ommendation for thevalue of hormone re-placement comes frompatients themselves.Christy states, “I mustsay, hormone replace-ment has been prettyamazing. I went fromfeeling like I was 90years old and sick all thetime to feeling young

and normal again. Nomore achy muscles orfeeling drained and nomore MIGRAINE head-aches! Overall, I feel 100times better!”

Another patient, Bar-bara, states, “After peri-menopause came onsuddenly in my mid-40s,I began to experiencelack of energy, hotflashes, shorter monthlycycles, sweating, inabil-ity to concentrate, repet-itive thoughts, anxietyand insomnia. Unfortu-nately, due to the lack ofknowledge on this topic,I ignored my symptoms, thinking I could controlmy increasing erraticmood swings andthought patterns. Fortu-nately, I have a greatgynecologist, Dr. Linda

Evans, who was able todiagnose my situationand recommended hor-mone pellet therapy.Over time, I was able todecrease and eventuallyeliminate my anti-de-pressants. I encourageany woman to investi-gate hormone pellettherapy. The results faroutweigh the cost.”

Hormone imbalanceis not limited to women.Dr. Evans treats malepatients with symptomssuch as loss of musclemass and strength, lackof stamina, insomnia, depression, trouble con-centrating, forgetful-ness and decreased libi-do.

According to Mike: “Iam extremely ecstaticwith the results of my

hormone pellet therapy. My physical enduranceis unbelievable. It isamazing what I can getdone now.”

Dr. Evans graduatedwith honors from Van-derbilt University, thenreceived her Doctor ofMedicine in 1988 fromUniversity of Cincinnatiand completed resi-dency in Ob-Gyn at theUniversity of Cincinnatiin 1992.

She practiced Obstet-rics and Gynecology inCincinnati from 1992until 2001, and has sincefocused on women’shealth and hormonebalancing for both menand women. She hasstudied hormone bal-

One of the most com-mon reactions that we getafter people tour ourinteractive InformationCenter in the Church ofScientology in Florence, watch a film or get freeDVDs, see our outreachto the community or thelife improvementcourses, or just stop infor a cup of coffee is : “Idid not know THIS iswhat Scientology does”.Some people, naturally,do have questions andthey search the internetfor answers. Unfortu-nately, some sites providewrong data about Scien-tology, and not knowingotherwise – people be-lieve it. To provide youwith the correct data, here are some of the mostcommon asked questionsand their factual answers:

WHAT DOES THEWORD SCIENTOLOGYMEAN? The word Scien-tology means ‘the studyof knowledge’, or ‘thestudy of knowing how toknow’. It comes from theLatin word Scio – “know”or “distinguish” and theGreek word – Logoswhich means “the studyof” or “inward thought”.

WHY IS SCIENTOLOGYCALLED A RELIGION? Ifyou look at any religion inthe world, there are threecriteria that have to bemet to be called a reli-gion, and Scientologymeets all three of them: 1)a belief in a SupremeTruth that transcends thehere and now of the sec-ular world 2) Religiouspractices directed to-wards understandingcommunicating with thissupreme reality 3) a com-munity of believers thatjoin together in pursuingthis ultimate reality. College studentsdon’t just acquireknowledge at school –they also collect a lot ofstuff. Fortunately, get-ting it all home at theend of the semesterdoesn’t have to be diffi-cult if you follow a fewtips from the pros thatknow at Penske TruckRental:

» Start by pickingthe proper-size truckfor your stuff. Mostcollege students choosea 12- or 16-foot truck formoving out of a collegeresidence or off-campusapartment.

» Reserve early.Reserve the truck andany moving accessoriesat least two weeks inadvance.

» Safety first. Takesome extra time to getto know your rentaltruck, especially forlong moves. Trucks aretaller, wider and heavierthan standard consumervehicles. Drive moreslowly and take extraprecautions. Park inwell-lit areas and pad-lock the rear door.Penske offers 24/7emergency roadsideassistance and optionalprotection plans.

» It’s wise to acces-

sorize. Accessories, such as boxes, packingtape, bubble wrap, mov-ing blankets and handtrucks, are essentialmoving tools and canmake the process a loteasier.

» Don’t pack every-thing on the truck.Keep important pa-perwork, credit cards, identification, change ofclothes, drinks andsnacks close at hand in atravel bag.

» Survival tips. When you get home andthe truck is unpacked, college counselors ad-vise students and theirparents do four things:

1. Set realistic expec-tations about houserules and responsibil-ities.

2. Make mutuallyagreed-upon adjust-ments. Curfew may nolonger be appropriate, but parents may expectto be notified of latenights out.

3. Keep your sense ofhumor; ordering a pizzaat 2:00 a.m. is “normal”at college but mightseem strange at home.

4. Remember, thesituation is temporary.

Summer is almosthere, but there’s still timeto get a new pool or reno-vate your existing one.

“With the weather wehave in our area, manypeople enjoy their poolsright into the fall season,”said S.I. Pool Care OwnerSam Ionna. “But the timeto schedule your installa-tion or renovation isnow.”

If you’re in the marketfor a new pool, S.I. PoolCare features fiberglass

pools by Blue Hawaiian. They’re available in vari-ous colors and are strong-er and more flexible thaneither vinyl liners orgunite pools and comewith a 35-year warranty,Ionna said.

According to Ionna, the advantages of fiber-glass over vinyl liner andgunite pools are clear:“Compared to vinyl, thereare no liners to replace,no tears or holes in liners,no fading, no floating of

liners with ground water, and liners have a 12- to15-year warranty, withonly the first two or threeyears covered at fullwarranty.

“And the only advan-tage a gunite pool hasover fiberglass is thatyou can make the poollarger. Cost, strength, flexibility and warrantyare all on the side of afiberglass pool,” Ionnasaid.

If you already have a

pool that needs somework, S.I. Pool Care hasyou covered there, too.Renovation services in-clude installing a newliner, pump or filter, oradding a heater or saltgenerator.

You can also resurfaceyour gunite pool withfiberglass and get a 25-year warranty, opposed tothe one-year warrantyyou’d get if you makeplaster repairs, at aboutthe same cost.

Finally, think aboutreplacing, refurbishingor expanding that con-crete pool deck for all thesummer entertainingyou’ll be doing.

Dip tips for tasty entertaining

One out of 10 olderadults experiences someform of abuse in theirlifetime. Estimates rangefrom 700,000 to 3.5 mil-lion victims annually. Those numbers are stag-gering and what is evenmore staggering is thatlittle exists to help identi-fy, intervene and protectthese vulnerable olderadults.

What is elder abuse?Elder abuse refers tointentional or neglectfulacts by a caregiver ortrusted individual thatlead to – or may lead to –harm of an elder. Abusecan take many formsincluding physical, emo-tional or psychological, sexual, verbal abuse orthreats, or abandonment. The most common formof elder abuse, whichmay exist with otherforms of abuse, is fi-nancial abuse.

All older adults are at

risk, regardless of race, culture or socioeconomicgroup. Women and “old-er” adults, over 85, aremore at risk and demen-tia in the older adult canalso increase the risk.Mental health and sub-stance abuse issues, witheither the abuser or thevictim, can also increaserisk. Abuse can occuranywhere – from some-one’s home to a facilitysetting or a hospital.

Elder abuse is alsoseriously under-reported,with the percentage ofreported cases falling farbelow the number knownto exist. Victims are oftenafraid to report abuse:they are ashamed or feelguilty because theirloved one is the perpetra-tor; they are in denial;they are afraid that ifthey report it they willnot be believed and/orthat the abuse will esca-late.

How can we help?First of all, education

is vital. Learn the redflags – stories of injuriesthat don’t match, socialisolation, changes in pat-terns, financial “gifts”that are out of line, miss-ing necessary medicaldevices like hearing aidsor walker. If you seesigns, report it. AdultProtective Services areonly a phone call away.

And if an older adultneeds a safe haven, theShalom Center for ElderAbuse Prevention at Ce-dar Village is ready tooffer crisis-stabilizationstays, with a full range ofmedical, nursing, thera-py, social work and legalservices to help the vic-tim recover and regaincontrol of their life. These services are pro-vided at no charge, partof Cedar Village’s faith-based mission to serveour community.
