These short term projects are basically exercises using different

methodologies of creative thinking. The assignment provide a

problem that needs to be solved, but the solution’s process, as

viewed in this book, is thorough and exploratory.

It is an exploration of problem solving in different technics. This

book showcases a process of thinking rather than a finished

product of design.

WHO AM I AS A DESIGNER?

Investigate the following question: Who are you as a designer? Think of this assignment as a creative self portrait. Develop a series of ideas, and then bring in your final design solution together with the process pages that illustrate your problem solving approach and your editing process. Choice of medium and execution are entirely up to you, but make sure they clearly highlight your strength in a unique way.

// ASSIGNMENT:

>> a “what if” person

2. something extremely colorful??

Asking other people how they see me:

Page 8: Creative Strateies Process Book

>> Propaganda towards the 1% :

Why do I want to be a designer?

>> went to a private science school and always thought different.

>> thought something was wrong with me

>> always loved the colorful markers in the store

>> when I saw Art Center I finally met “the one”

>> used to paint and draw as a kid

>> nothing that I did before felt right

Page 9: Creative Strateies Process Book

What do I do in my design process?

>> I let it out. I talk about it.

>> I present my idea to many people, and I listen to myself

>> I use language

>> I use communication

>> I would never go to a deserted island, unless I can take everyone with me.

WITHOUT THE PEOPLE IN MY LIFE I AM LIKE AIR

REFRAMING A PROBLEM

Reframe [one] of your classmate’s problems into a new one. The result should be in a form of a question and be an improvement compared to the original one.

Answer the new question.

Document your process and be prepared to present it.

// ASSIGNMENT:

Page 16: Creative Strateies Process Book

Derrec’s Question:

How can I be more healthy?

Why:

US is spiking in terms of obesity.

Page 17: Creative Strateies Process Book

1 //Being healthy is a personal state, it is not an action. Are you sick at the moment?in order to convert it to an action, you should reframe the question:How can I live healthier life. Or, how can I treat my body in a healthier manner?

2 //Living in an environment that tents to spike in terms of obesity is definitely an effect but not a cause for not being healthy, or not treating our body in a healthier manner. Therefore an option for reframing the question would be:How can I go around my non-healthy environment?

3 //Are you afraid that your non-healthy environment can affect your way of treating your body? If so, you should know why.How can I be more aware of the food I’m consuming, and the lifestyle I’m having?

4 //Since lifestyle is a manner of priority, and taking an action to live healthier life is realistic. reframing the question again would be:How can I change my priorities to live a healthier lifestyle?

REFRAME

Page 18: Creative Strateies Process Book

A solution to a problem of this kind would be a

map that will show all the options leading to

others. This way a firm conclusion can be made.

PATTERN BREAKING

Using the principles of Patter Breaking, create a new concept for as Art Center Souvenir. Go for uniqueness and break away from cliches but also capture the ACCD essence. Avoid any concepts that are from the “verboten” list, but do think about what shape and form an Art Center Souvenir could take. This could be sold at the student store or be a give-away for guests or visitors. Ask yourself: what is the Art Center essence?

FUNDRAISING

Using supplied wood from the Arboretum, create a concept that will be auctioned at a curated exhibit to benefit the tree fund. This exhibit is entitled “Forces of Nature” and commemorated the over 200 trees lost during the great windstorm of 11’. Your mission, should you accept it, is to produce one of multiple designs that have the potential to achieve the highest price possible for this noble cause.

// ASSIGNMENT:

Page 28: Creative Strateies Process Book

Among all the ideas that I was thinking about, I was also thinking about the Arboretum as an institution and its values. I realized that it is a big bank of tree that can be easily vanish from the world without nobody being worried about the manor. I then decided to create a wooden sculpture that is an abstraction of our earth and what we really relay on.

The first question I ask ourselves as human beings:

VISIONCALIBRATION

The company Unilever has been seeing sharp declines in the sales of one of their main products: Popsicles.They have hired you as a creative director to calibrate their vision with a concept that will bring their sales back up. You will present your idea to the client for evaluation.

// ASSIGNMENT:

Page 38: Creative Strateies Process Book

Name

The name popsicle has its equity. It is a brand that became a part of a language. It has history and related to an experience.

Problem

Popsicle is basically iced sugar water. The notion of the people has changed, and they no longer have the story of the popsicle and they do look at ingredients.

1. Create stories. Each flavour has a story to tell, and the kids are collecting the stories:

Maybe through characters.

2. The idea of cool and cold. Naming the flavours with glaciers names:

Greenland etc..PROBLEM---less of the kids market.

3. The idea of friendship. Starts something new but also brings us back to

the nostalgic days of sharing.

Every flavour will have a friendship: Me & Mom. Me & Dad.

Solutions

>> Bring back the story to popsicle >> Create a new story for popsicle >> Combine the two

Key words

>> Freedom >> Summer >> Playfulness >> Refresh >> Nostalgia

IDEAS

PERSONALIZED FRIENDSHIPIn popsicle the characters not only represent the flavor but they can be named

by the kid and get collected

PERSPECTIVESHIFT

Design a mobile/windcatcher using a perspective that is different from your own view point. This “perspective shift” can be from another designer, a pictorial character, an animal, anaesthetic, a culture, a major or any other element that allows for a rich source of inspiration and creativity.

// ASSIGNMENT:

Page 44: Creative Strateies Process Book

1. The first stage is to look at other mobiles and

examine how they function.

2. The second d stage is to analyze how I would

approach the design and solve the problem.

3. Finally, how would someone else approach it.

Looking for interesting designers.

JUNIOR FRITZ JACQUETJacquet Fritz Junior carved them out of toilet paper rolls. Next time you find yourself out of pa-

per, instead of slamming the roll on the floor, see what you can make with it while killing time on

the crapper. That’s not all though; Jacquet is an self-taught origamist and works with all sorts of

paper to create awesome renditions of trees and more.

My first behavior is to go and buy what I need, after I planned my project. This time I will only

use what I have.

A PHYSICAL PERSPECTIVE SHIFTIn the process of thinking with color and light, I realized that one of the next solution would

be to change the viewer’s perspective. And so I did. I though about only viewing the mobile

from the bottom, like a baby in a crib.
