Founded in 1984 by Moira North, Ice Theatre of New York (ITNY) has changed the face of figure skating by creating works that integrate the sensibilities of contemporary dance, music and art. Through its performances in both traditional and alternative venues, ITNY presents on-ice dances that challenge the perceptions and conventional definitions of figure skating. ITNY was the first ice dance company to receive dance program funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.  In addition to building and performing works of artistic merit, ITNY also reaches out to the next generation of skaters and audiences through its exemplary education, community outreach and training programs. The Ice Theatre of New York will present a series of new works by young artists in an effort to continue its mission to expand the vocabulary of the figure skating language. Eight aspiring choreographers ranging in age from 9-30 will be presented at The Rink At Rockefeller Center on Wednesday March 27th at 1:00 PM as part of the 27th annual edition of the City Skate Concert Series.

The group of talented young choreographers have all matriculated through 2-time Olympic Team Coach and 1999 PSA and USFSA Coach of the Year Audrey Weisiger’s “Young Artists Showcase” - an online figure skating choreography competition, now in its 4th year.

This concert will feature YAS champions and finalists presenting solos, duets, and ensemble numbers of their work. This is an exciting opportunity to see the future of figure skating as many of these choreographers are already working on the National and International stage.

Following his retirement as an amateur skater in 2010, Mark became a professional skater in Torvill and Dean's hit TV programme Dancing on Ice.

Outside of his TV commitments, Mark is both coach and choreographer to many national level skaters and secured the British ice Teaching Association's Young Coach of the Year Award in 2012.

ADAM BLAKE:2011 YAS CHAMPION

Adam Blake first started choreographing group productions at age 16. From modest beginnings, he began to expand knowledge on movement, learning all types of dance: hip hop, tap, street jazz, popping, locking, tutting, modern, contemporary, and swing.

As a touring principal figure skater with Disney on Ice, Adam gets the opportunity to travel the world and experience all types of dance and movement each city has to offer.

In 2011, Adam won the second Young Artists Showcase. It was amazing validation for his art, giving him the confidence in his own voice. His choreography is very dance based and full of expression.

"I want to push the limits of skating choreography.  To give the illusion that dancers can fly."
