How to make a.... Creative Expressions Pink Lily

Box Frame Card

Step 1. This workshop will show you how to make a lovely delicate lily box frame using the Sue Wilson New Zealand Collection ~ Wellington Die as the main feature die shape. The Sue Wilson frames & tags ~ Maggie die (not pictured here) are used to create the delicate frame stand on the reverse of the card. The Creative Expressions floral oasis and lily corner stamps to die for ... sets both co-ordinate with the Wellington die set and just finish off the project perfectly. The Foundations coconut card , some Cosmic Shimmer marshmallow watercolour paint, true white embossing powder and the chic moss colour cloud blending ink are used to achieve the soft effect on the finished card.

Step 2. Take Creative Expressions lily corner stamps to die for ... set and place it on an acrylic block. Ink the stamp with some Perfect Medium and stamp the image onto a piece of Foundations coconut card. Sprinkle the Cosmic Shimmer true white embossing powder over the clear ink. Now heat set the image using a heat tool.

Step 3. Repeat the process as above but this time use the Creative Expressions floral oasis stamps to die for ... set. Heat set this image too.

Step 4. Secure the outer Sue Wilson New Zealand Collection ~ Wellington Die over the lily corner stamped image using low tack tape.

Step 5. Run the card / die through the Grand Calibur machine using the base plate & cutting plate. Also emboss this shape using the pink plate and the tan embossing mat and base plate after cutting.

Step 6. Measure 6½ cms along the top of the card. Here it is 1½ cms in from the deepest outline curve, measure the same 6½ cms down the right hand side again 1½ cms in from the furthest outer curve and then just join up a short line to the edge of the lilies on the bottom edge and left hand side of the image. Lightly use the pencil so it`s easily rubbed out afterwards.

Step 7. With the card on a craft mat use a craft knife along with the Creative Expressions piercing ruler (as it has a metal edge) to cut along the pencil marks on the lily frame.

Step 8. Lift the cut edges up to ensure the card is cut fully through and so it helps with the next stage.

Step 9. Cut around the embossed white edge of the lilies starting from the cut pencil markings and finishing at the other cut marking. It`s always best to cut a fraction past the embossed line so it doesn`t crack the embossed image. The water colouring will cover the excess white card area.

Step 10. Here is a useful tip, you can have the stamped floral oasis image so it`s just peeping out under the frame or ......

Step 11. ...... move the image across and have it just showing out of the 2 full sides of the frame as it will make a fuller image underneath.

Step 12. Measure the main width on the reverse of the cut out frame. Here there is a maximum of 8½ cms staying within the white area of the frame. I`m just saying this so you can use this idea on different stamp sizes or dies shapes as it`s a useful card style to have.

Step 13. Cut a piece of coconut card to 11½ cms x 11½ cms and score at 1cm, 2½ cms, 9 cms, 10½ cms & 11½ cms. Turn the card and repeat the same measurements down the card to create the complete scored box frame shape. Here all the hard work of the measuring has been done to fit the box frame behind the lily corner stamp.

This will give a main body of 6½ cms with a 1½ cms depth and a 1cm lip area either side.

Step 14. Turn the cut lily corner frame over and place the inner cut edge onto a score board and run an embossed line down the inner edge of the frame. Repeat down all of the 4 cut lines to create a lovely detail to the inner frame. You may wish to pierce this edge which can be done using the Creative Expressions piercing ruler.

Step 15. Cut away all of the 1cm edge in the bottom 2 box corners only. Cut a straight line up to the 2nd scoreline before cutting a diagonal line up to the same point to make the tab notch.

Step 16. Trim off the bottom 1cm square to make the basic shape for the box frame.

Step 17. Repeat this process on all 4 corners. It may sound complicated but believe me once you have done all 4 corners next time you use this technique you`ll do it much quicker and it`s a useful technique to know when making a lined box lid.

Step 18. Crease the 4 outer flaps upwards.

Step 19. Now crease all the other fold lines downwards including the corner tabs inwards.

Step 20. Add some of the Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue on the inside of the 4 corner tabs.

Step 21. Place the glued tab on the outer of the box shape to give you the box depth and a nice clear inner frame area. Make sure all 4 corners are glued in place.

Step 22. You will have the 1cm lip area which will be used to glue the frame to the back of the lily corner frame. Place some Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue on the 1cm tabs shown here.

Step 23. Add the lily frame over the glued box frame base so that the scored edging lays on the box edge area.

Step 24. Turn the card over and press the tabs firmly onto the back of the frame once you have the frame in the correct position as seen from the front.

Step 25. Measure 6.4cms x 6.4cms down the right hand side and the top edge of the floral oasis stamped image and then cut the piece out as a square so that you have just the 2 embossed edges on the card.

Step 26. Add some of the Cosmic Shimmer chic moss colour cloud blending ink onto a Creative Expressions smoothie before adding the ink to the edges of the floral oasis stamped panel.

Step 27. Use some Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue on the reverse of the panel before dropping the worked piece into the box frame.

Step 28. Use the Creative Expressions smoothie which will still have some ink on the smoothie and just distress the edge the embossed edge with the ink making sure you colour the area from the stamped white frame to the edge of the card.

Step 29. Now add some of the Tim Holtz Victorian velvet distress ink onto another smoothie but this time just ink the edge of the die shape frame as this will give a delicate soft feel to the frame and will marry the green and pink themed colours up perfectly.

Step 30. Stamp another 2 lily corner images out on coconut card or even vellum and cut out the main lily and all the other small lily buds etc before curving the flowers with a pair of decoupage snips.

Step 31. Spritz some water to activate the Cosmic Shimmer marshmallow water colour paint and then use a water brush to apply the colour within the white embossed lines of the lily. The water colour will repel off the white lines which makes it nice and easy when colouring in the flower. Add some green Cosmic Shimmer water colour to the leaves of the lily to complete the finished look of the flower.

Step 32. Now add the decoupage lily pieces onto the dry lily using some 3d glue for a dimensional feel. Then colour in the raised pieces. Colouring the flower underneath just means the flower will flow nicely when it`s seen from different angles.

Step 33. Add a small dot of the Cosmic Shimmer pastel lemon PVA glue to the small embossed stamen areas of the lily making sure the glue doesn`t touch either other as the glue will form a larger dot.

Step 34. Cut 2 of the Sue Wilson frames & tags ~ Maggie die shapes in the coconut card.

Step 35. Turn just one of the die shapes side wards and draw an embossed line so it just touches the solid top of the inner circle as shown.

Step 36. Crease that fold line being careful on the filigree area. Place the scored / folded area over the back of the box frame and then crease over the small amount of the die shape that falls further than the 1cm depth of the box frame.

Step 37. You will then be left with the shape looking like this.

Step 38. Turn the other Maggie die shape over so you work using the reverse side. Make sure the heart or pattern lays in the same corner. This just depends on which side you scored the first embossed line on. Trim across the top line at the same measurement as the scored line. Stick the 2 pieces together using some Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue. This will make sure the stand doesn`t have a bulky area when gluing the stand in place.

Step 39. Now use some more of the Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue to stick the folded area of the stand onto the top of the box frame depth.

Step 40. Once the glue is dry the card will have the lovely delicate frame stand perfect for the card style.

Step 41. Add some small and micro dots at random of the Cosmic Shimmer pearl PVA glue around the edge of the lily frame to add detail to the finished look.

Step 42. Place a small double Creative Expression finishing touches satin ribbon bow at the base of the lily and then add a 8mm white self adhesive pearl over the knot of the bow to complete the look.

Step 43. The lily gives a lovely glisten as the card is turned because of the Cosmic Shimmer water colour paints.

Step 44. The small bow and pearl just adds to the faux pearl detail around the edge of the box frame.

Step 45. Here is a close up of the white stamped images along with the faux pearl detail.

The card can be completed using lots of different colours as it would look lovely painted in gold for a 50th wedding anniversary card. The card shape

just gives that wow factor when people see it and it just shows a different use for the lily

corner stamp set.

Here is a photo of the delicate stand which will be seen once the project is on show.
