What You Need:

• Leaves/ hoose #resh, lar"e, "reen leaves. In this pro0et, we used leaves #rom a )aple tree, a

"rape vine, a Bukeye tree, and a Lila $ush. *nly the maple tree leaves worked well1 the others

were not #irm enou"h to withstand the proess without tearin". The smaller and so#ter the lea#,

the less likely it is to work well in this e2periment.

• Sodium carbonate washin" soda4 &ou an order the needed small amount here, or $uy it in

lar"e 5uantity at the "roery store in the laundry aisle.

What You Do:

Before you begin: An adult should supervise all ativities involvin" the stove or oven7

veinin" system provides #ood and water to the rest o# its ells. Sine the lea# is no lon"er "ettin" the nutrients it

needs #rom the "round throu"h the stem o# the plant or tree trunk, its tissue will $reak down easily. All that

remains is the deliate system o# veins that make a lay pattern7 Try #ramin" your lea# skeleton, or usin" it to
