by Creative Arts of Washington WORK AREA Select colors Fold several paper towels in half and place next to painting hand Damp sponge the piece STENCIL PLACEMENT Position and hold (or tape) in place overlay #1 May lightly trace registration marks (small holes at top of stencil) with pencil LOADING BRUSH Use flat round headed stencil brush Dip tip Ollly into color Swirl brush several times on paper towel to remove excess color BRUSH STENCILING Hold stencil down with free hand Hold brush straight up a11d down ... use circular motion and brush over edge of stencil openings Work co lor from outside edge (awards center OR LOADING SPONGE Moisten sponge and remove excess water Pounce cor11er of spo11ge in color Pounce repeatedly on paper towel to remove excess color SPONGE STENCILING Hold stencil -down with free hand Pounce sponge straight up and down over edge of stencil openings Work color from outside edge towards center CONTINUE STENCILING When all openings on overlay # 1 are stenciled ... remove Position overlay #2 ... mate!, registratio11 marks ... stencil all cutout areas If applicable continue with overlay #3 and #4 TIPS AND HINTS Use light pressure to prevent color seeping under edges or too heavy of a buildup along edges Tlie amount of color in the brush will determine tire success of your project Leave centers free of color for highlight Stencil all over with desired color .. . highlight with a lighter color .. . shade with a darker color

• Fold several paper towels in half and place next to painting hand • Damp sponge the piece

STENCIL PLACEMENT • Position and hold (or tape) in place overlay #1

• May lightly trace registration marks (small holes at top of stencil) with pencil

LOADING BRUSH • Use flat round headed stencil

excess water • Pounce cor11er of spo11ge in color • Pounce repeatedly on paper towel

SPONGE STENCILING • Hold stencil -down with free hand

• Pounce sponge straight up and down over edge of stencil openings

• Work color from outside edge towards center

CONTINUE STENCILING • When all openings on overlay # 1 are stenciled ... remove

• Position overlay #2 . .. mate!, registratio11 marks ... stencil all cutout areas • If applicable continue with overlay #3 and #4

TIPS AND HINTS • Use light pressure to prevent color seeping under edges or too heavy of a buildup along edges

• Tlie amount of color in the brush will determine tire success of your project • Leave centers free of color for highlight

• Stencil all over with desired color .. . highlight with a lighter color .. . shade with a darker color
