ANCILLARYCREATING MY ALBUM FRONT COVER

WHAT’S GOOD?Close up-more intense and personal. It will entice the audience and grab there eye.The distortion of the photo and confusion connects and relates to the brand and music.

WHAT’S BAD?Too much effect-the lens flare effect adds a lot of excess colour, but it intensifies the photo. Not much empty space to insert band name and other information.

WHAT’S GOOD?Distance-the distance between the character and the camera adds much more empty space for name and title. The hands reaching towards the camera creates atmosphere and entices the audience.Distortion and confusion relates to the music and brand.

WHAT’S BAD?Facial features are not clear-but this adds to the idea of the unknown.Isn’t as gripping or capturing than the first image.

This is an example of the band album cover and band name. I don’t want to have the same font but I don’t want to stray to far away from the brand.

Therefore what I’m going to do is keep the structure and form the same-tight and close-but just change the font.

CHALLENGE #1Importing and resizing the image to fit onto a 10cm-10cm canvas.

When I imported the image it was to wide to fit into the canvas so I moved the image along to see which part of the image fitted best in the space I had and then re-sized it.

You can see this bit of the other hand and it shouldn’t be there-this image is a bad one to use.

I’ve decided to use this because the head is perfectly centre and you can see an equal amount of both hands-also it still holds that captivating effect.

This is what the image looked like when I first imported it into fireworks. This could work effectively as I could insert the text on the left in the darker areas.

I can’t make the image to small because it will just have a black space at the bottom which looks unprofessional.

This is quite nice and effective but it takes up to much room I think.

THESE ARE MY TWO OPTIONS

THESE ARE MY 3 FINAL OPTIONS FOR MY ALBUM FROMT COVER

1. 2. 3.

I PREFER IMAGE 2 because the hand on image 1 doesn’t fit into the shot. Image 2 looks a lot more professional-also there’s more empty space for the text.

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK

1. 2.I couldn’t really make up my mind to which one I preferred, so I decided to refer to my long line of friends and family and ask there opinion on which they liked best. I asked them all this same question:“If you were to buy a CD which cover would appeal to you most?”I create a tally of the answers

11 5

WINNER!!!!“more captivating”“scary”“powerful”

Quotes from audience about image 1

“simple”“boring”“not clear”

Quotes from audience about image 2

This is where my band title is going to be inserted.

KALINGA

This is the one I like best. The tightness of the white text on the black is effective as it makes the writing stand out but doesn’t interrupt the image. If I made the text more complicated that would be too distracting and not as effective.

FIRST DRAFTThe line looks tacky and doesn’t need to be there-it would look better without this line.

I’m gong to use the burn tool on fireworks to edit out some of the excess colour which I don’t need.

ALSO there isn’t enough on here, I need more information because at the moment this looks like a poster.

The non-itallic is a lot clearer and easier to read. It is simple and effective. Originally I was going to make it bold but then the name of the band wouldn’t stand out as much.
