Workplace Accreditation Program

Presenter
Presentation Notes
The Program aims to inspire workplaces to build on existing initiatives that address respectful relationships and gender equity Employees are made aware of the implications of conscious and subconscious discrimination towards women. Employees take the conversation home to their families and wider community…. Therefore the social impact is real and far-reaching and the opportunity for true culture change is substantial Examples of engagement Leadership commitment Internal communications Policies Training Risk assessment Procedures for disclosures and dealing with perpetrators Involvement in the White Ribbon Campaign

Evidencing social change

In an independent evaluation by UNSW, participants were ‘unanimously positive about their support for the program’. Key observations were:

• Schools agreed students more likely to stop others who were being unfair or disruptive

• Schools more likely to have procedures in place to promote a culture of non-violence

• Schools described improved behaviour amongst their students following implementation

• Schools reported positive changes in interactions between boys and girls

• Schools reported positive engagement in their students

• Schools found the Program easily integrated with, and complemented, existing programs

DIVERSITY PROGRAM

Presenter
Presentation Notes
This is a new area of focus for White Ribbon. Communities all across Australia have worked closely with White Ribbon and embraced the campaign to develop and support domestic violence prevention initiatives and services that are culturally specific, appropriate and engaging. We recognise that before we enhance our deeper engagement with diverse communities we need to look inwards as a learning organisation. We need to build our cultural competence to engage effectively with communities, and seek advice and guidance from organisations that have the expertise and knowledge. We recognise that all communities, both geographically and culturally are unique. What works in one area, in one community won’t necessarily work somewhere else. There are ethical issues also that we must navigate carefully. Most importantly it is the community knowledge and expertise that will guide our engagement through the diversity program. We want to engage with national and locally based organisations and to ensure that we respectfully and meaningfully support communities through our campaign and in their domestic violence prevention initiatives. We acknowledge that many men, and organisations from diverse communities are already actively engaged with the White Ribbon campaign and other effective initiatives. We want to know more about what the campaign means to them, why it is important to their communities and how we can work together to build their capacity for action.
