In England, the largest categories in schools are: • Moderate learning difficulty (24.2%)• Behaviour, emotional and social difficulties (22.7%) • Speech, language and communications needs

(16.3%) A much smaller proportion of pupils have:• Autism spectrum disorders (8.1%)• Physical disabilities (3.8%)• Visual or hearing impairments (3.4%)

• UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2006)– Eight guiding principles, of which two are:

• Full and effective participation and inclusion in society• Accessibility

• Standards bodies:– WCAG 2.0 Guidelines. Web content must be

perceivable, operable, understandable and robust

– W3C• It’s easy and there are additional benefits
