A Domain name for your site. Hosting – storage space for your website. A Content Mangement System (CMS) Content - Meaningful information describing

your service. Photos / Videos – Showcasing your service to

your target audience.

Domain Names

Choose a domain name that relates to your business if possible or use the business name.

e.g. www.selfcateringnewcastle.com Domains names can be purchased from

approximately £5 - £20 per year. Go for .com if you are targeting

a global market, or .co.uk if you are only targeting the UK market.

Hosting of your Website.

Hosting is the storage of files for your website. Free hosting – Google, Bravenet, Weebly etc Shared Hosting – The most common and easy

to set up / manage. Dedicated Hosting – Quite expensive, only

needed for high traffic sites like Tesco Online, Ticket Master etc.

Shared hosting - £30 - £100 per year

Content Mangement Systems (CMS) A content mangement system is designed to

allow an end-user to easily enter text and photos / videos.

The functions are very similar to Microsoft word. (WYSISWYG)

You do not need to understand any HTML programming code to run a website.

CMS can be “open source” or commercial systems.

Content within your website

Content is King! Try and update your website on a regular basis with new

and interesting information. Write for your audience! Not what you think Google

would like. Keywords and search term phrases are important. Blogs and regular updates via newsletters all help drive

more traffic to your site.

Using Social Media

Facebook and Twitter act as another marketing channel for your website.

Use them to back up and promote your website and as another method of attracting customers.

Youtube, Vimeo and Flickr for media (photos / videos) Remember to create some content to back up any photo

or video. Always link back to your website.

Get your site Noticed!

Link submission pages – Google and Bing. Get your website address on everything - Flyers /

Business Cards, Email signature. Exchange links with other related businesses. Join Forums, business directories and spread the

word about your new website. Bear in mind that it could take 2 – 6 months

before Google indexes a new website.

PPC is a form of online advertising payment model in which payment is based on qualifying clicks.
