Create  a  Spreadsheet  for  the  Twelve  Days  of  Christmas  

 1. Open  new  Excel  workbook  2. On  the  Layout  Tab  –  change  the  orientation  to  Landscape.  3. In  cells  A2  through  A13  type  in  the  twelve  days  of  Christmas  (i.e.  Partridge  

in  a  Pear  Tree,  Turtle  Doves,  French  Hens,  etc.)  4. In  cell  B1  type  “Day  1”,  using  fill  handle,  drag  through  to  M1  5. In  cell  B2  type  the  number  “1”,  and  using  fill  handle,  drag  through  to  M2.  6. In  cell  C3,  type  the  number  “2”,  and  using  fill  handle,  drag  through  to  M3.  7. Repeat  for  each  item  for  each  day  (D4  =  3,  E5  =4,  etc.)  8. Make  columns  O  and  P  as  $    9. Cell  N1  type  “Total  Items”,  cell  O1,  type  “Item  Costs”,  cell  P1  “Total  costs”    10. In  cells  O2  through  O13  assign  a  dollar  value  to  each  item  (i.e.  for  a  

Partridge  in  a  pear  tree  =  $200,  each  Turtle  Dove  =  $6,  each  French  Hen  $7.50,  etc).  

11. In  cells  N2  through  N13,  using  auto  sum,  students  calculate  total  number  of  each  item  for  the  12  days.  

12. In  cells  P2  through  P13,  using  multiplication,  students  calculate  total  $  spent  on  each  item.  

13. In  cell  P14,  using  auto  sum,  students  calculate  total  $  spent  over  the  12  days.    14. Insert  a  Clustered  Column  Chart  

a. Select  Cells  A1  through  A13  AND  Cells  P1  through  P13  b. Then  choose  Insert  Tab  –  Chart  –  Clustered  Column  c. Resize  the  Width  of  the  Chart  to  4  Inches  Wide.  d. Apply  a  Preset  Layout  of  your  choice  to  the  Chart  e. Move  the  Chart  so  it  starts  in  Cell  P20  f. Insert  a  Caption  that  goes  below  your  chart  that  says,  “Coolest  Chart  

Ever!”  15. Insert  a  Picture  of  your  Favorite  of  the  12  Days  16. Resize  the  Width  of  the  Photo  to  5  inches  wide.  17. Add  a  Moderate  Frame,  Black  around  the  Picture,  and  Rotate  the  Photo  

Clockwise,  4  Degrees.  18. Add  a  New  Row  Before  Row  1.  Select  Cells  A1  through  P1  and  Merge  &  

Center  them.  Then  Type  “The  Twelve  Days  of  Christmas  –  Bah  Humbug!”  19. Format  the  text  as  18  Point,  Bold,  Red  20. Insert  a  New  Row  After  Row  1.  Select  Cells  B1  through  P1  and  Merge  &  

Center  them.  21. Format  your  name  as  Bold  22. Then  Type  “Your  Name,  Period  ____?”  

 23. Choose  File  –  Print,  and  mark  the  box  to  Fit  To  Page  -­‐  Turn  It  In!
