Create Stage

After many lessons where I have investigated and planned everything in order to create a video showing the health benefits of the dialysis machine, I am ready to start creating and setting up everything.Firstly, I have to write a script for the chosen storyboard, in this case the first one, and I have to find someone eager to be in the video.

Creating the script

I think that creating the script is one of the most important parts in film making because ti is where everything starts. In the script there is written everything, from what the actors are saying, to any stage directions and any change in the frame.

Cast

I will need a main character, preferably a girl; then I will need a doctor and finally one or two friends.

Props Needed

-A phone

-Fake needles and tubes (earphones)

-Backpack or a bag for school

(From black it slowly focuses in an empty street full of trees on both sides of the road, slowly the camera moves and you can see the girl walking alone)

(Location changes, the girl is in a room doing dialysis)

(She sits in a chair and waits for the doctor)

“You seem sad, why is that?”

“I had to go out with my friends today but instead I am always stuck here doing dialysis, I hate my life”

“I know, it’s very hard but remember you are doing this to save your life, your friends will understand and maybe you can invite theme here once”

(Sam, her friend, comes into the room)

“I’m fine, i’m sorry that I couldn’t go out, you have to understand that I have to come here at least three times a week!”

“It’s fine, I will always be here for you”

At the end of the video, I want to add some bloopers to make the audience laugh.

Process Journals

I decided to use the program “Final Cut Pro” for the mac instead of “Imovie” to create my video. I chose this because it is a more professional version of imovie and because I can create many more things and add many more edits.Since the program costs a lot, I decided to do the trail version which lasts for 30 days.

This is how the program looks when you first open it, I have to now create a new project that is going to be called “The Dialysis Machine” and I have to import all of my footage.

Here I imported all of the footage but realised that I made a very big mistake.I filmed everything vertically intend of horizontally, hence not all of the space is being occupied and the video will have black around the sides.It is not very professional but I know that next time I will have to film with my phone horizontal.

Here I added the song that I wanted for the whole video. It’s called “Story of My Life” by One Direction.I have to figure out how to lower the volume of only the music so, I will watch a tutorial.

I also started to add the first footage but I have to cut many useless parts.

At the top right corner of the program there is a tool and when you click it is shows the volume that you can lower in different parts.

Or you can also adjust it by clicking on the line of the audio and adjust certain pieces of the music.

Here I am adding the title of the movie, “The Dialysis Machine”.I now have to change the font and adjust it.

I changed the font of the title because I didn’t like the normal one and I wanted it to be more fun and creative

To make it more funny, at the end I added some bloopers and behind the scenes.

Now I am going back to the start to adjust the volume of the song as you can’t hear the actors speak.

Here I added the effect that the writing slides down like the real credits of movies.

After changing many times the volume of the song in different parts, I am happy with the outcome of the movie.

Evaluate Stage

After I finished creating the video, I have to look back at every little stage and see what I did and what could’ve been improved. Moreover, I have to

test the video against the test plans that I previously did but also I have to evaluate it against the specifications.

Testing the product

In order to test the reliability of the product, I have to use the test tables that I did in the Investigation stage.One was a table and the other test table was a questionnaire to do to different people to get various opinions on my video.

After having completed this test table, I found out many things about my video that could’ve been improved or that I did wrong. Overall, I think that I followed nearly everything in the test plan and I think that even though some things were missing, the outcome of the video was nice.

Thanks to the results of the two interviews, I have gained many answers of the outcome of the video. I think that the interviews are very useful to see different opinions and what different people think about the video.

After evaluating the results of both test plans, I realised what I did wrong and what could’ve been improved. Firstly, I think that I had to insert more facts about my chosen technology because there are not many of them and the video is more concentrated on the story line rather than the health benefits of the chosen technology. Secondly, I had to make it longer to meet my specifications as it is only two minutes long and had to be at least five minutes long. Other than that, I think that the video turned out well and edited well however I could’ve filmed the video horizontally rather than vertically, as said in the interviews of the test plans. Next time, my main points to improve are:- Make the video longer- Film the video horizontally- Edit it even more - Make it clear that it is made for a specific age group

Create Stage

During the create stage, I had to create a process journal to see the progress of my video. Thanks to the screenshots that I did of the process, you can clearly see how I created and edited the video. Also, you can see that I used some videos to help me use the program “Final Cut Pro”. Moreover, the screenshots are essential to see what I did wrong and what could be improved next time. They are very useful to evaluate the product in detail and to see if I followed by Gantt chart correctly and in time.

The impact of the product

In this project, I have learnt many things of film making and editing that have been extremely useful and will be for the rest of my life. I have learnt how to film properly, even if I had some problems and I have learnt how to use certain programs to edit the video. Editing the video has been to most hard task because I had to make sure that the outcome of the video seemed professional and well made; I had to add music, lower the volume at certain parts so that you can hear the actors speaking and add text in the video. It was all hard to do because I never edited a video but thanks to some videos, showing how to do certain things, using certain tools, I managed to create and edit the video well.

I think that the target audience had to be more specified but I think that the person watching the video can understand that it is made for a young age group thanks to the storyline. You can understand it because the actor is a teenage girl who is sad because she can’t go out with her friends. However, this could’ve been better explained by adding more things to let people understand that my video was created for high school students.

Looking back at the Area of Interactions that I wrote in the Investigation stage, I can evaluate them and see if they were relevant to the final outcome of the product.I had to main area of interactions: Human Ingenuity and Health & Social Education. I think that both have been extremely relevant and useful because for the fist one, I had to create a video from scratch and learn all of the aspects of film making and editing whilst for the second one, the main goal of my video was to teach a certain age group the health benefits of the dialysis machine. I think that they were very important but the most relevant one was Human Ingenuity because the whole project was based on creating a video and

learning how to do it. We could create anything in the video and it was fun having so much freedom for this project.
