quality is poor and waste is high, Craven Equipment continues to produce high quality

luggage that is designed to last.

Every aspect of Craven luggage is checked to ensure that it meets our exacting standards, whether it be aesthetic or

functional, nothing is left to chance.

StyleCraven luggage is an iconic brand and our goal is to match the classic look with modern day production

methods. We achieve this by using the original moulds and styles, whilst incorporating improvements such as

better locks and using stainless steel fi ttings where possible. At the same time we aim to enable owners of original

luggage to repair and restore their own boxes using original parts or to uprate them with improved parts.

Non-ferrousThere is no excuse for having a weak link in any part of Craven luggage. Where we can we only use stainless or

aluminium fi ttings to ensure that in years to come your luggage will look as good as the day you bought it. This,

along with the fi breglass body, makes Craven luggage some of the most durable available on the market today.

UK ManufacturingIn a global market costs and quality are being driven down. Craven Equipment aims to manufacture, where

possible, within the United Kingdom. The mouldings, and most of the metal work, is produced in Suffolk within our

own premises or by two trusted sub-contractors. It is unavoidable that some parts will have to be sourced from

overseas but, where possible and cost permitting, Craven purchases from within the UK and as locally as possible.

SecurityPainstaking detail has been taken to ensure that the craftiest of ruffi ans fail in their attempt to break into your

luggage, by using high security ‘drill proof ’ locks, Torx security screws and stainless nyloc nuts. We supply a pair of

keys with each piece of luggage, and your luggage within your set will all lock using the same key.

ColoursUnlike the Ford Model T our luggage is available in Black or White. Due to the high costs and minimum purchase

quantities of pigments for glass fi bre gel coats we have restricted our colour range, should you require a specifi c

colour please contact us and we will be able to advise on the delivery time and the additional cost.

ServiceLooking after your luggage is really rather simple. A drop of oil in the lock mechanism will ensure smooth working.

The outside and inside of your luggage can be cleaned with warm soapy water. Should you wish to polish your

luggage (and why not?) a product such as Autoglym Super Resin Polish should be used. Ensure the surface is

washed and dried fi rst. Following polishing, the surface can be sealed and protected with either Autoglym Extra

Gloss Protection (a liquid sealant), or High Defi nition Wax (a hard/paste wax). This will ensure the long lasting lustre

of your luggage. Simple.

Panniers

Concorde - Includes top mounts and fi xed bottom mount

The Concorde is our most compact pannier, but even so it has an impressive 18 litres of storage. The square design

of these enables them to hold a great deal of luggage and also makes them robust. The components on these are

no different to the larger luggage, with the same strong reinforced rubber lifting handle, stainless steel strapping, 90

degree stop hinge and lock plate. Concordes are perfect luggage either on or off the motorcycle. When you arrive

at your destination, simply unlock the pannier and lift away. Unlike other wide panniers these are very easy to carry and

don’t look out of place whether on a campsite or in a fi ve star hotel. All panniers come with the fi xtures and fi ttings to

attach to a rack. As standard the bottom fi xing is bolted on, please ask to upgrade to the lockable (and thus quickly

detachable) bottom mount.

Panniers

Comet - Includes top mounts and fi xed bottom mount

The Comet is our largest production pannier with a top opening lid. They are very versatile; two of these on any bike will

make touring as simple as the daily commute. With a storage capacity of 21litres each, they swallow almost all luggage.

Each pannier is handed with the Craven logo on the side, reinforced rubber lifting handle with chrome cover plates

on the top. There is also a 90 degree stop on the hinge at the front so even if the wind does catch the lid it will not

be damaged. The hinge is made from stainless steel, along with the strapping and the lock catch ensuring that these

remain bright and shiny. With their sleek design these are very easy to carry and work just as well as storage on the bike

as they do off. All panniers come with the fi xtures and fi ttings to attach to a rack. As standard the bottom fi xing is bolted

on, please ask to upgrade to the lockable (and thus quickly detachable) bottom mount.

Top Boxes

Snowdon - Includes fi ttings to attach to the rack

The Snowdon was the fi rst style of top box made by the original company; they were originally called Sportsman,

Spaceman and Superman depending upon their size. We felt that these names were a little confusing so we have

continued the original Craven theme of mountain ranges and thus the Snowdon was born. The fi ttings used are non-

ferrous as far as possible. If purchasing top boxes with panniers then all 3 locks will use the same key so you don’t need

one for each piece. There is also a 90 degree stop on the hinge so even if the wind does catch the lid it will not be

damaged.

These are available in 2 sizes and currently 2 colours, black or white.

Top Boxes

Stelvio - Includes fi ttings to attach to the rack

The Stelvio is the later style of top box - it ’s squarer shape and ribs to locate strapping give it a more rugged

appearance. The shape means a greater capacity within the same footprint as the Snowdon but with equal level of

strength. The centre of the lid has a recess for the Craven logo. If purchasing top boxes with panniers then all 3 locks

will use the same key so you don’t need one for each piece of luggage. There is also a 90 degree stop on the hinge

so even if the wind does catch the lid it will not be damaged. These are not currently in production but please contact

us to pre-order one, or even two. Although pictured with no centre lock the new batch will be fi tted with our ‘drill proof ’

locks.

Racks

We manufacture 3 styles of racks, the D, W and L rack. These are manufactured within our premises and powder coated

using a local fi rm. The fi rst consideration is, do you plan to fi t panniers to your motorcycle? If so then choose either the W

or L rack. If not, you can choose any of the styles. The D and W rack are only available in one size, the L rack is available

in 5 sizes. The area of the rack that changes in sizes is the distance from the front mounting point to the front of the rack

platform. This varies with the size of the motorcycle dual seat. All racks are suitable to take a top box.

D Rack - Not for use with panniers

The D rack is a simple rack, the mounts attach on the mudguard only. This

rack is recommended for everyday use with or without a small top box.

With several points for straps to be attached it is a very versatile rack

but not suitable to hold a very heavy load since it is mounted to the

mudguard.

As shown on a Vincent, (which has a very unique fi tting kit)

W Rack - For use with panniers

The W rack is as equally compact as the D rack but has the added

advantage of being able to hold panniers. The rack, when holding

panniers, will use a lower mount (usually onto the footrest) for

additional support. With this extra support the rack is able to hold a

much greater load. The rack can be fi tted using the same method as

the D rack should you not be fi tting panniers, as seen in the picture.

As shown on a Matchless, note the lack of long arm

strap to support any panniers. Matchless not included.

L Rack - For use with panniers

The L rack is the largest rack and most versatile. It has

side rails (which attach to the upper suspension mounts)

enabling luggage to be strapped down on the passenger

area of the seat, provision for panniers and also a large

rack platform. This rack is predominantly used on swinging

arm machines since the front mount is from the top shock

absorber but can be used on other machines.

As shown on a Velocette, note the long silver arm for

support. The Velocette should actually have a W rack but this is such a good picture.

Fitting Kits - This is where things become a little more interesting. A fi tting kit consists of everything required to attach the rack to the

motorcycle. Each fi tting kit is unique, we have information about what would be included for some machines but not all. ,

so we will be able to provide certain fi tting kits. If we do not have the full details of your motorcycle we may need some

extra information.

The L rack is available with different length arms to suit particular motorcycles. This depends upon the distance from

the top shock absorber mount to the rear of the seat, this is distance A on the drawing. The different lengths are shown

below.

So when ordering an L rack measure the distance from the top shock absorber mount to the back of the seat, then

select the rack below that is the next size up.

Old designs

Craven produced many styles over the years and we aim to produce as many as possible. With the above designs

already in production we have listed below all the known designs. Should you be especially interested in a design,

please contact us as we will be starting with the most popular ones, so we need your vote. We are always looking for

more information, perhaps you might be able to help us fi ll in the gaps or have pictures of ones which are not listed.

Comet (1980’s style)

These are the MK2 design of the original Comets (see

earlier in the catalogue. These have the same setup with

regards to the handle, lock and hinges as per the early style.

These are handed.

Available in 1 size only, dimensions unknown.

Dolomite

These are available in 2 sizes, they are handed and this can only be spotted by the

metal strapping around the back, this strapping goes quite far down one side, but

only a 1/4 down the other side. The easy way to spot the difference between the small

and large are the number of catches. The small usually has only one in the middle whilst

the large has 2 or 3. The lid is tucked in under the metal strapping to act as a seal.

These are very good fi xed to the bike but when it comes to carrying them the handle

makes the boxes lean out. When we make these I suspect we will put the handles in a

better location. There is also a design of the Dolomite which is angled forward, this is

also known as the Dominator.

Golden Arrow

The Golden Arrow was designed to blend in with any

environment. So whether you be camping in Carlisle or

residing at the Ritz these were designed go unnoticed. They

are hinged at the bottom with the catch at the top. Unlike

the Dolomite these are really only suitable when taken off the

bike. With the hinge at the bottom, very careful packing or

use of the internal luggage strap stops the contents spilling

out onto the ground. With their fl at side

Rodark

The Rodark was styled using a Triumph rear mudguard. These

were originally made of metal and used an actual rear

mudguard as the lid. We have little information about these

so supplying parts for your existing one might be hard. They

have a handle half way down the lid and a pear shaped

lock cover (standard cylinder lock underneath) at the top.

Vincent transfer bares no relation to the fact they are made

using Triumph guards.

Available in 1 size only, dimensions unknown.

Silver Arrows

Do not think that these are associated with the Golden Arrows in any way.

These are made from a reinforced fi breboard and are braced internally with

wooden battens. The Silver button screws on the lid hold it closed, it hinges at

the bottom of the lid (which is not detachable). These were mainly used (and

seen) on Vincent motorcycles but are not exclusively for them.

Above is a table showing the various pieces of luggage. All luggage has non quickly detachable mounts as stand-

ard but it is an option. Panniers with a side mounted lid will have elastic ‘cargo’ net installed in the lid and also the

main compartment to retain your possessions. Not all of these panniers are available, please enquire for the latest.
