December Message

From Board President Richard Stoll

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays!!!! I’m trying to be Politically Correct.

Can you believe another year has almost gone by? Now is the time to be in an

eating mood. We have a Christmas Breakfast with Ham and Cheese Quiche, a

Ham Dinner for Christmas dinner and Prime Rib for New Year’s Eve. WOW!!!!

Make sure you have your tickets for the two dinners.

We have some great events coming up in the New Year: January – Chinese

New Year, February – Mardi Gras, March – St. Patrick’s Day Dinner, April – Beatle

Night, etc. Lots of fun and dancing coming up. This Board is in the party mood.

Speaking of the Board we have two vacancies, Secretary and Board Member. We

hate to see Steve leave us.

Are you noticing the beautiful improvements in the Park? Miguel and staff

have been working hard to improve the looks. Notice the new fence or rocks at

the entrance. The GREEN around the Club House. Have any of you tried out the

new exercise equipment in the pool area?

Bingo is going very well. We would like you join us. It is said to be good for

seniors for keeping the brain active and eye sight exercise. Give us a try. The

Snack Bar is open for a quick and delicious meal before Bingo. You do not have to

play to enjoy the meals.

We appreciate all the people and students that are volunteering to make

our events go so smoothly. The Board members work hard and appreciate the

help in putting on all the events. Have a great holiday season and talk to you

soon.

MILLENNIUM MEMO 2018 was a Year of Change for me. My youngest daughter got married, my wife retired, Millennium moved to new offices…and I turned 65, something my knees remind me of every morning. For The Tropics, however, 2018 brought more of the same—and that’s a good thing! Just a few examples:

Home prices remained high--and even increased over last year. I’ll provide more details next month but it is safe to say that if someone wants to become your neighbor and enjoy The Tropics lifestyle, he/she will have to pay dearly!

The Tropics is already one of the finest communities in the State but we continued making upgrades anyway. The most recent example: $66K to complete Phase 2 of the Tree Project. A more fun project: the new Entrance Sign. Your Rent Dollars at Work!

Lots of Tropics residents earned Kudos for their service to the Park, too many to mention here. Miguel earned a special Staff Kudo earlier this year for winning a Bessire & Casenhiser “Above & Beyond” Maintenance Award.

SPARC continued to be a big asset to the Park, as Stacee described in the November Memo. SPARC is ending the year with a Winter Wellness Seminar & Senior Warm Kit Program, something new for us. That one sounds fun. You’ll get hot soup & bread, learn from a panel of 3-4 speakers and build a “warm kit,” including scarves, socks, gloves, beanies…I hope to have a report for you next month.

The Flood Control folks did their annual Creek Clean-up, this time using goats! That was fun to watch, wasn’t it? I’m typing this in early November, so I don’t know if our family of turkeys survived Thanksgiving. Let’s hope so.

Thanks to the many volunteers, Clubs, Residents Club Board, the folks at B & C and, most of all, your amazing, dedicated, hard-working, award-winning Park Staff for making The Tropics such a desirable place to call home. Here’s to doing even better in 2019! Christmas in The Tropics As usual, Tropics residents have a chance to end the year in style, starting with the Dec. 2 Potluck, then the big Christmas Dinner, New Year’s Party…residents in our other Parks would be jealous. For me, this is also that exciting time of year when I find out what I’m getting my wife for Christmas. I can’t wait for that! Enjoy the parties, thank your Park Staff for such a great year...and have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! George Turk

Seems like yesterday when we wished everyone Merry Christmas

and Happy New Year -- now it is here again. The older we get the

faster the time goes so we need to stop and smell the roses.

The annual $2.00 HCD fee is on the December statement as well as

the electric credit for sub-metered resident spaces. The Tri-City

Mobile Food Bank will be here on Friday, December 7 and Friday,

December 21, 2018. A big Thank You to Kathy and all the

volunteers that help make it run so smoothly.

The swimming pool will be heated thru December 31, 2018 and

many residents are taking advantage of the warm weather. Both

the ladies and men’s exercise rooms have been updated with new

paint, carpet and machines that work. Stop by and check it out.

Looking forward to the beautiful displays and lights that our

residents put up for the holidays.

Merry Christmas to all.

A MESSAGE FROM LARRY CORNELL

The b bug club is looking for some volunteers who would like to come to the b

bug computer club and learn how to eventually take over the daily operation.

I have been volunteering going on 11 years now and it has been very rewarding. I

love helping the residents who come to the b bug for help, but who is going to

take over when and If something happens to me? Does it cease to exist?

Hoping someone can come forward, Larry Cornell

Ceramic Club News

The Tropics Ceramic Club welcomes all who are young at heart and still

like to “play with clay”. We have our ceramics room, equipped with clay, a

large variety of molds, as well as kilns to finish your work. The ceramics

room is located behind the clubhouse next to the swimming pool. It is

currently open Mondays 11 to 2, and Thursdays 4 to 8. By all means drop

by, if you think you would like to express yourself in clay, or just like to see

what is going on. You can meet us, and see some of the attractive items we

have made. No experience necessary!

If you are not available at those times, you may call Melody Peterson at

266-2607, and she will arrange a visit at a convenient time.

As to Club Meetings, these are now held EVERY OTHER

MONTH, except during summer, on the first Tuesday. So

we will be meeting Tues., Dec. 4, at 2:00 p.m. in the

Conference Room in the clubhouse. All are welcome.
