“With a genuine passion for stonewhere every piece is crafted

with care and years of expertise.” Craftsmen

The GON team: taking pride in their work and dedicated to perfection

In 1999 he began his quest to assemble a team of individuals who share the same pride and passion for crafting this most wonderful of raw materials and began trading as GON Granite & Marble.

Today, our team has a combined experience

working with stone of over 80 years.

This enables us to source the very best raw

materials, the most appropriate tooling required

and the varying techniques required to get the

best out of the chosen material. This and spotting

potential problems in advance are all challenges

that our craftsmen face every working day.

You probably think that we would say this but we really

believe there is something wonderful about the natural

beauty of natural stone. It is the quantities, distribution and

chemistry of the minerals within the stone which gives stone

its colour.

The shine on your stone work tops is brought about by hours

spent polishing the surface with varying grades of abrasive,

leaving it easy to clean and maintain. It remains cool to the

touch and warm to the eye.

Whether it is used in kitchens, bathrooms or commercially,

granite is without doubt a most versatile natural material and

The Granite we use today began life approximately 200 million years ago from molten rock and is

made up from quartz, feldspar and various Mafic or igneous minerals.

“Our stone is imported from all over the world: Africa, Italy, Spain, Brazil, India, the USA,

and Scandinavia to name but a few.”

What is Granite, Marble & Composite

Granite BlockLiquid Stone

extremely attractive for use almost anywhere inside or outside

the home. All this completes the undeniably luxurious effect.

Marble is a metamorphic rock resulting from regional

or at times contact metamorphism of sedimentary

carbonate rocks, either limestone or dolostone.

This metamorphic process causes a complete recrystallization

of the original rock into an interlocking mosaic of calcite

and/or dolomite crystals.

The temperatures and pressures necessary to form marble

usually destroy any fossils and sedimentary textures present

in the original rock.

Composite is a quartz surface, it has the feel and weight

of natural stone, comprised of natural

quartz, is resistant and beautiful.

It is practical and can be used for kitchen worktops, bathroom

vanity tops, shower cladding panels and commercial projects.

Its colour is consistent and in some environments more practical

than natural stone.

Composite stones are generally produced through an

industrial process that uses quartz and polyester resin,

they are then compacted at high pressure at a constant

temperature thus obtaining a material

with exceptional qualities.

and where do these stones come from?

Splitting Granite Blocks

stone is a natural product its propertieswill vary through the slab so we have to work carefully to ensure that different cuts are positioned in a way that allows the varying shades and colours to blend with each other.

Because it is impossible to thoroughly check wet stone for

defects we ensure that all our materials are dried before

inspection. That’s often no more high tech than bringing

our slabs in to the workshop two or even three days

before we need to start work on them.

Only once the stone is thoroughly dry we can start to cast a

critical eye over it. To assist our visual inspection we also use

specialist lighting to reveal the minutest of defects.

Going to these lengths at the beginning enables us to avoid

sub standard slabs before we start the intricate and costly

work of cutting and polishing.

Our computer aided polishing machine has nine oscillating

polishing heads using the best diamond tooling. Individual

pressure settings for each head mean we can exert a high

degree of control over the process to give the best possible

finish.

Cut outs, shaping, dressing and groove cutting for sinks are

generally carried out on our CNC machine. We have the

ability to use this particular piece of equipment manually for

final finishing. This means we can avoid the typical machine

lines that would otherwise be left in the stone.

Whilst we rely on precision engineered machinery to enhance

efficiencies, no piece of work leaves our workshop without

being hand finished by one of our conscientious craftsmen.

“Often, we spend as much time on pre manufacture

inspection of our stone as we do on cutting it!”

Our work has been used in the fitting out of

private yachts, villas, hotels and restaurants

and exported all over the world.

We have competed with the very best of German

fabricators and have won contracts over them

due to our ability and attention to detail.

Our craftsmen provide a full template service to ensure the perfect fit when it comes to installing the finished stone.

Templating & FittingAlso, the visual layout that

our template provides allows

you to see and discuss the

project before we start.

This gives tremendous peace

of mind not provided by scaled

down one-dimensional plans.

When it comes to fitting

we use a 2-pack resin for jointing

which is colour matched on site

and forced down into the joint.

Simply ... the quintessential expression of style and luxurySemi Precious Collection

The semi precious materials we use are usually sourced by hand at the country of origin. Sometimes taking four months to arrive in this country. This time must be allowed for in the project planning.

These hand picked materials cost upwards of 15 times the price of a typical granite. GON are one of only a few companies in the world skilled enough to fabricate from these materials. We can fabricate into kitchen tops, bathroom vanity tops, bath surrounds, wall cladding table tops, bar tops etc.

There are those who believe these materials may help with stress, wealth, health, fertility, intelligence, healing and general well being issues.

Confidentiality and discretion prevent us from listing our notable customers, however, we have worked with many high profile clients including Premiership footballers and managers, Olympic athletes, celebrities and five star hotels.

You may rest assured that we maintain the highest levels of integrity for all of our customers all of the time.
