B. Some Key Problem Areas...

1. SlanderThe dictionary

defines slander as the utterance of false charges or

misrepresentations which defame or damage another's

reputation.

Page 20: CPR Talk 3 Taming the Tongue (RonieColomaCFCBrunei) 07.2014.pptx

B. Some Key Problem Areas...1. Speaking against

(2 Cor. 12:20) For I am afraid that when I come I may not find you as I want you to be, and you may not find me as

you want me to be. I fear that there may be

discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition,

slander, gossip, arrogance and disorder.

C. Destroys trusts and undermines committed personal relationship....

Never speak in a way that causes brethren to mistrust

one another.

Don't speak in a way that stirs up quarreling or conflict.

Page 23: CPR Talk 3 Taming the Tongue (RonieColomaCFCBrunei) 07.2014.pptx

D. How do we handle problems of wrongdoing or incompetence?

Go directly to the person concerned.

If necessary, talk to his household head or other CFC leader

who has responsibility for him.

It is possible to talk to another mature person in order to get help in knowing how to handle the

matter. In this case, do not name names.

Page 24: CPR Talk 3 Taming the Tongue (RonieColomaCFCBrunei) 07.2014.pptx

E. "Exceptions" to the general rule of not speaking against:

When we reprove people

When we have a dispute with someone that we cannot resolve.

When we tell a person's head that we know of or have heard of something wrong

the person has done .

B. Some Key Problem Areas...

b. When we do talk about others

• It is OK to talk about others' good qualities or successes.

B. Some Key Problem Areas...

c. We should not listen to gossipProverbs 17:4

A wicked person listens to

deceitful lips; a liar pays

attention to a destructive

tongue.

Page 33: CPR Talk 3 Taming the Tongue (RonieColomaCFCBrunei) 07.2014.pptx

B. Some Key Problem Areas...d. We are all called to live in the light with one another.

Ephesians 5:8-13For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the

light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose

them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible and everything that is illuminated

becomes a light.
