CPLD Firmware Upgrade Instruction sheet for SmartLine Anytime Tool Document Number: 34-TT-33-03 Effective Date: November 2020 Supersedes: 2/4/2016 Use this document when a new module needs to be supported by SAT or a hardware issue and the SAT firmware needs to be upgraded
Please take appropriate steps to avoid ESD damage when handling the PCB assembly
Step – 1: Hardware Preparation
Take out the SAT PCB Assembly board from the housing, and jumper Pins 15 and 16 of the 16 pin connector as shown in Figure 1.

Then connect SAT with PC, Figure 2.

Step – 2: Download PC Software
This is free, 3rd part, PC software that is required for the Firmware upgrade.
Download Software Programmer Standalone 3.3 32-bit for WindowsTM from: http://www.latticesemi.com/en/Products/DesignSoftwareAndIP/FPGAandLDS/LatticeDiamond.aspx
Note1: It is ok to choose another version for a different operation system. This document is based on Windows 7 32-bits.
Note2: If using a newer version of the software on the web, this document may differ slightly.
Note3: If it is the first time doing a download, then a further registration process may be needed.

Select the Download button to begin the software installation.

Step – 3: Run the programmer software after installation:
Figure 5 shows version 3.1.

Step – 4: Detect Hardware
When the software is running, the following dialog will appear.
Press the Detect Cable button, which will detect the hardware.
Note 4: Please be aware that, this needs the SAT software to have been installed, which means the driver of the hardware has been installed, or the hardware will not be detected.

The hardware has two channels, please choose FTUSB-1:

After the hardware is detected, the following dialog will appear. Select OK.

If two device appear, remove the second one by right clicking on it and choosing “remove device”. If just one device appears, then ignore this step:

Step – 5: Setting the software:
Choose Edit from the top and select Settings as shown in Figure 11

Set the “TCK low pulse width delay (0-10x)” to “10” as shown in Figure 12

The purpose of setting this is to reduce the communication speed, or the software will fail to download with the default clock. Select OK.

Step – 6: choose target CPLD type:
From Generic JTAG Device select MachxO2 from device family as shown in Figure 13.

Double click on Operation column to choose the firmware file to be download. Select OK.

ATTENTION: keep the access mode and operation as the following setting. Select OK.

Select the required firmware file then press OK.

When complete the software can be closed and the USB connection between PC and SAT opened.
