ICTC CPE Newsletter #4 December 12, 2019 Career Pathway Experience “Serving all Itawamba County Schools” CPE Business Spotlight Digital Media - ICTC - Fulton, MS by Alex Brown on December 6, 2019 The ICTC, or Itawamba Career & Technical Center, is located in Fulton, MS. The mission of Itawamba Career & Technical Center is to cultivate the potential in our students by integrating rigorous classroom instruction with relevant, work-based experiences that inspire, guide, and empower them for post-secondary college and/or careers. Our CTE programs bridge the academic, employability, and technical skills that prepare students for leadership roles in the working world. At ICTC, our vision is to provide a focused, caring, and stimulating environment where all students will recognize and achieve their fullest potential while preparing to make their best contributions to society. Digital Media Technology emphasizes the techniques and tools used in digital media and the creative design of such media. The course focuses on the basic areas of computer graphics, multimedia, animation and video production. The students are also exposed to state-of-the-art equipment and software such as Apple iMacs, WaCom graphing tablet monitors, HD Digital & Video Cameras, Adobe Creative Suite 4 software, and Apple's Final Cut Pro editing software. Mr. Andy Nichols is the instructor of the Digital Media pathway. He has been an instructor of this pathway since 2008. His main hobbies have been shooting pool, playing snooker and reading. He is always happy, glad to provide help for his students, and likes to experiment around with new projects. Mr. Nichols has given me the opportunity for an internship. He has provided this by allowing me to help the students work on their projects. He has also allowed me to help with setting up, testing, and making sure the audio equipment was good and running for our podcast. 1

CPE Business Spotlight Digital Media - ICTC - Fulton, MS

● ICTC Students of the Month for December  ○ Automotive Service - Daniel Brazil ○ Collision Repair - Shawn George ○ Construction - Isaac Green ○ Career Pathway Experience - Spencer Taylor ○ Digital Media - Keionna Weatherspoon ○ Health Sciences - Monica Ellis ○ Law & Public Safety - Breana Sides ○ Teacher Academy - Kenvee Blackmon ○ Welding - Nate Ledlow 

 

● EdRising/Teacher Academy ○ This past month, EdRising/Teacher Academy read the book “How to Catch 

an Elf” to kids at both Mantachie and Fairview kindergartens. They provided the students with a STEM activity which introduced drones and students were able to create their own Elf Catcher 1000, which was actually just a small parachute. 5 EdRising students have registered for state competition in February. Students will be participating in job interview, impromptu lesson planning, and public speaking.  

● SkillsUSA ○ SkillsUSA has registered for regional competition in February. 9 Welding 

students and 1 Health Science student will be participating at East Central Community College in Decatur, MS.  

● HOSA ○ HOSA has also registered for district competition on Saturday, February 

22nd. 16 students will be participating in Starkville, MS. HOSA will also be competing in the state competition in Natchez, MS.

CPE Description by Deana Patterson on November 1, 2019 

Essential elements of CPE: Work-site training, training agreements, training plans, screening of students, job shadowing/internship/paid employment, monitoring the field experience, and program accountability evaluations. The intent of this program is to help students bridge the gap between high school and full-time employment and/or post-secondary education.  

Juniors/Seniors from Itawamba, Mantachie, or Tremont High School who have completed 2 years in any of the 12 CTE Pathways in Itawamba County School District are eligible to apply for this program.  

What should I expect in this program? Students should expect to learn about time management, money management, financial responsibilities, customer service, career opportunities, job search, resume building, and leadership. In addition to completing work hours, students will complete assignments and projects related to leadership, finance, resume and portfolio building, ethics, job applications, workplace security, entrepreneurship, math skills, business fundamentals and scholarship research.
