1. How to Create an Account in RIMpro

Note: Once you receive the NEWA file name from Julie Carol and Dan Olmstead, you will be able to conduct the following steps below. If you owned a RIMpro account before you will need to log in using username and password from before and renew your subscription to RIMpro in 2018.

If you do not already have an account with RIMpro, on the RIMpro Cloud homepage shown below at www.rimpro.eu use the button “Create your RIMpro account”:

On the next screen shown below, choose what kind of account you need. In most cases this will be “Individual fruit or wine producer”, and especially true if you own a NEWA station. If you

do NOT own NEWA station, check an option “Guest of RIMpro user group (no private weather station)”

Click the button “Next” button circled in red above.If you chose “Individual fruit or wine producer” on the next screen shown below, you will see:

Note that, if you chose the other option “Guest of RIMpro user group (no private weather station)” on the next screen shown below, you will see:

Fill out the form on the next page, invent and enter your own username and password, write or copy and paste “ENY Apple Farm” in the box “Please enter the name of the User Group that invited you”, agree to the terms of use, and click on the button “Create your account” circled in red above. You will receive a confirmation e-mail in your e-mail Inbox with your username and password.

2. How to Connect Your NEWA Station to Your Account

1. Your NEWA station weather data file should contain complete weather data from January 1st (means it should have been collecting data from January 1st).

2. You are responsible for the accuracy of your NEWA station in collecting weather data. In other words inaccurate weather data will generate incorrect disease model predictions in the following fashion: “garbage in = garbage out”. Make sure you read this page online on calibrating and maintaining the accuracy of your NEWA weather station: http://newa.cornell.edu/index.php?page=maintenance-guidelines

3. From this link above you will learn that you must calibrate NEWA weather stations every 2 years. Contact RainWise Service & Repairs at (207) 801-4039 or 1-800-762-5723 for instructions on sending the station in for calibration. Plan a good time to take out the station for maintenance, usually in late fall, winter, or early spring.

4. Log in on RIMpro home page with your username and password you received from RImpro through e-mail.

5. In the main menu shown in the screen below, use your mouse to hover over “My Admin”, then hover over “My locations” and then click on “Add a location”.

6. That should bring you to the screen shown below:

7. Name your NEWA station in the box “Name for the location”: type the name you want.

8. To enter your GPS coordinates into “Latitude in decimal degrees” and “Longitude in decimal degrees” go to http://newa.cornell.edu/ and click on the “leaf” sign of your NEWA station location on NY map. In the screen shown below, this map has headline: “Click on a map marker to go to the weather station's home page” (zoom in or out to find your station on the map):

9. When you open a station’s home page (screen shown below) you will find the box with the following info (for HVRL Highland station example):

Station LocationLat/Lon: 41.75/-73.97Elevation: 437 ft.

9. Copy and paste the Lat portion of the xx.yy/ww.zz number i.e. 41.75 in this case to “Latitude in decimal degrees” (this latitude number I state here is just as an example for Highland station and your station’s latitude will be different)

Copy and paste the Lon of -73.97 in this case into and “Longitude in decimal degrees” (this longitude number I state here is just as an example for Highland station and your station’s

latitude will be different)

10. Convert feet elevation into meters and put into the box “Altitude (meter over sea level)” (1 foot = 0.3 m)

11. For NEWA stations , in the box “Interface type to read the datafile” choose: “RIMpro standard”

12. For “File transfer protocol” select the http://

13. For “Internet address (URL) of the datafile” box, enter or Copy and paste newadata.nrcc.cornell.edu/rimpro which should be in the e-mail that Dan send you.

14. For the “Name of the datafile”, enter the last part of what Julie and Dan send you via e-mail.And should read similar to something like this xyz_name_2018.csv where ‘xyz’ is the requested station NEWA id and ‘name’ is the licensee last name.

15. For “The weather forecast” choose, “yr.no”. This is a free forecast service.

16. Click on “Save&Quit”.  Note that if you need to come back to change something, you can now get back here anytime by going to “My Admin”, “My Location”, and “Edit location”.  

3. How to join the Hudson Valley Lab’s User group ENY Apple Farm

1. On the main menu, hover over “My administration” and click on “Join user group”

2. Then choose “Join an existing User group” as shown in the screen below, and in the box “Enter the name of the user group” type in ENY Apple Farm, then click save changes:

You can only join one User Group.

4. To Find Your Stations Apple Scab Model Predictions:

1. As shown on the screen below, on the main menu first hover with your mouse over “Station”, then hover over “Your Locations” and choose your station, in this case it is named “Highland NEWA” as shown below (your station’s name will be different):

2. Then on the main many hover over “Model” and then select “Apple and Pear Scab” or “Fire Blight” like shown here:

If need be use other main menu buttons:

Tools o If weather data had to be corrected, it might be necessary to force RIMpro to re-

read all weather data from January 1st. Sensor interpretation

o Sets how RIMpro interprets crop-wetness from your weather data. If you use the MeteoBlue data stream you can toggle the forecast settings between the Leca Leaf-wetness model and a simple leaf wetness interpretation.
