Safely clean your Grill or BBQ With better weather upon us, it’s important to make sure our BBQ’s are clean and ready to use. Recent research recommends never using a metal-bristled brush to clean a BBQ. This is because the bristles easily come off the brush and stick to the surface of the BBQ. Bristles stick onto the food and get accidentally eaten! As they are so thin, they’re easy to miss if they’re stuck to food, and equally as difficult for medical staff to remove from someone’s mouth! So, what are the alternatives? Using long-handled tongs with a crumpled-up
ball of aluminium foil, gently removes burnt-on debris
Run the BBQ really hot for a few minutes after cooking, most debris burn up and fall off by itself.
Use a steam-cleaner, with or without a grill cleaning product
Clean the BBQ several times to freshen it up

New releases for Jun/Jul 2017
A sensational mystery bestseller that has now been released as a 13 part Netflix series . At the front of the room, facing the students, will be the desk of Mr Porter. He’ll be the last to receive a package with no return address. And in the middle of the room, one desk to the left, will be the desk of Hannah Baker. Empty. You can't stop the future. You can't rewind the past. The only way to learn the secret... is to press play. Clay Jensen returns home from school one day to find a mysterious box with his name on it, outside his front door. Inside he discovers a series of cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker - his classmate and crush. Only, she committed suicide two weeks earlier. On the first tape, Hannah explains that there are 13 reasons why she did what she did - and Clay is one of them. If he listens, Clay will find out how he made the list - what he hears will change his life forever. I must admit that when I first came across the series on Netflix I was sceptical but if there was ever a book/series that can awaken us to the impact of bullying or how are actions/words are interpreted by others -this is it!

The deadline for submission relating to the new Local Plan for South East Lincolnshire (the areas of Boston Borough Council and South Holland District Council) expired on May 22nd. Once adopted, the Local Plan will guide development and use of land in the area up until 2036. It includes sites to be allocated for different types of development, such as housing and employment in order to meet the area’s needs, as well as identifying areas of land which must be protected from development. It also covers a wide range of other planning-related matters in the form of policies, against which planning applications can be judged. This was the final round of consultation of the plan, and will now be is submitted to the Secretary of State for independent examination in public. Accessing information from South Holland District Council’s website is now quicker and easier, with users having the option to create their own individual online account. The website now has a ‘My Account’ facility, allowing users to create personal accounts, which once logged into, instantly provides information tailored to the individual. To create an account, visit www.sholland.gov.uk and click on the ‘My Account’ option at the top of the page and fill in a short form to confirm your name, address and contact details. You will also be asked to create a user name and password. Once registered, users can log into their accounts and will be able to: • View their localised waste collection dates (including bank holiday variations) – This is also tied to the Garden waste service, identifying if the resident is in an area covered and if there is availability • View their ward councillor(s) without the need to search • Be notified of any local flood warnings . Being logged in via the My Account facility also allows the following online forms to be pre populated with user’s personal details, making it quicker and easier for users to complete
them: • Bulky waste • Garden Waste • Abandoned Vehicle • Flytipping • FOI request
• Feedback form • Council tax online service In addition, general accessibility improvements have been made to the site, making it easier to use for residents who have difficulty reading website text or are blind. Users can now have website text read out, change the colour, font and size of text, magnify sections of the page and alter the background colour. To help everybody access the site, there is now the ability to have website pages translated into several different languages. To start using these options, visit www.sholland.gov.uk and click on ‘Accessibility’ at the top of the page. A review of South Holland District Council has found that it is ‘doing a good job for residents’, ‘has strong and effective leadership’, and demonstrates ‘sound financial management’. The findings come from a Corporate Peer Challenge report, which was presented to Andrew, Rodney, Anthony and other Council members in April. The report was written by a team of Local Government Association (LGA) peer reviewers, comprising senior officers and councillors from other parts of the country, who spent five days in December scrutinising various council plans and interviewing council staff and members, as well as representatives from a number of businesses and partner organisations which work with the councils. The review covered South Holland District Council and its partner authority, Breckland Council, in Norfolk, with which South Holland shares a senior management team.

The newly formed Playing Field committee consists of Sammie Betts, Rachel Winyard and two Cowbit Parish Councillors, Cllrs Simpson and Elliott. It was agreed that work should commence on refurbishing the playing field equipment. The swings had been repainted and three seats replaced. The new safety flooring has now been installed. There is also a new Football Club about to start for over 16s. The Parish Councillors are concerned regarding vandalism to the playing field and equipment. This is obviously done by locals and has been reported to the police. Some of the culprits are known to the Council and names will be passed to the PCSO. To report potholes etc direct to LCC can now be done online at www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/faultreporting. Various repairs and resurfacing to the local carriageways are taking place through-out the area. The police report: ASB=1, Criminal Damage=2, RTC=0, Theft=1, Violence=0, Burglary=0 .Please report any incidents to 101. There seems to be a large amount of fly tipping being done down Barrier Bank, please report anyone you see doing this. It also is stopping the verges being cut. There is a newly installed Defibrillator on the Village Hall outside wall. It has been registered with the emergency services. Are you interested in becoming a First Responder? First responders’ actions literally save lives, delivering vital immediate care in critical first moments before handing over to the ambulance service. By becoming a first responder you are making a difference in your local community by attending emergency medical calls at a variety of levels. In April saw the AGM of the Village Hall Committee and Darren Harper was re-elected as chairman alongside Peter Simpson as vice chairman. We have received sponsorship from Kings development for the "Fun on the Field" which is on Saturday 16th September on the village Playing field. We hope to build on the success over the last two years and have a number of stalls already booked including the Junior and senior races, climbing wall, beer tent, inflatables and refreshments. Keep the date free in your diary more information will follow in the next newsletter. Due to lack of a promoter we had to cancel the Cowbit village drew this year which was a shame because it brought in extra funds for charity events as well as local winners. We also have a number of other social events planned including a, MacMillan Coffee Morning Fri 29th Sept , over 60's Christmas tea afternoon - Sunday 3rd Dec .,Village Christmas party - Saturday 9th Dec, Charity race night - 24th March 2018 More information is on the village website -

According to the calendar Summer is just around the corner. At the time of typing this article, one would think that it is months away. Today has been a day of weather which pupils and staff usually dread…Wet Indoor Play…However, today’s Wet Indoor Play day has been joyous, calm and fun. The mid-day supervisors have
provided the same setting as any other Wet Indoor Play day: games, dry-wipe boards, Lego, books, scrap paper, marker pens, colours, Stack-it cups and so forth. Why has there been an added calm, fun and relaxed atmosphere? It is all thanks to the latest invention…the fidget spinner. Some pupils have even let staff members have a go! Its purpose and effectiveness is being debated amongst scholars, parents, teachers and pupils. I can only comment that when used at the appropriate times it is highly effective. I am not sure one could get by using a fidget spinner to relieve stress whilst taking a driving test, but for use during Wet Indoor Play, I give my full support. I am considering giving all the staff, pupils and parents one next year to use during Assessment Week.
Donaldson Class Our topic this term was New Life and we were privileged to be given 6 fertilised eggs to incubate. After a lot of research and care by the children we were excited to have 3 of the 6 eggs hatch success-fully. The children have named the chicks M&M, Popcorn and Ginger.
This term has been a busy for Morpugo class with
the SATs . That’s not stopped us from enjoying our
learning. We have been reading the Iron Giant and
have written our own version of the story. We
have also been learning about forces and their
effects. The children have made their own
parachutes, to determine which might have the
greater air resistance, resulting in a safer
parachute for a sky diver. Next term, we are
learning about how to become entrepreneurs. This
will have the children using all of their skills maths,
persuasive writing, charisma and creativity. We will
also be focusing on the transitions that lay ahead
and ensuring that all children feel prepared for
their next journey within education, be it going
into Year 6 or onto Secondary School.
In Dahl Class, we have been exploring how magnets work. We investigated a number of questions we had about magnets such as, 'Can magnets join together to make a bigger, stronger magnet?' We found out all kinds of interesting things during our Investigations. We found that some magnets are stronger than others, their poles can repel or attract, and they can even make each other move without touching. Next term, we are looking forward to exploring… how inventors think, create and design.
Correction from the previous publication: Dawn Hook, from the local village shop, accepted the donation from our school council… not Dawn Hunter as stated.

Great news Cowbit!! We have recently started a new committee with our focus being to improve facilities on the playing field for all! We have been clearing the area, painting and recently had new flooring for the swing area laid. We have so much we want to do and any support is welcome! Our plan for the near future is to create a picnic area, clean and paint the rest of the park and repair more flooring. Applications are being made for funding pots in the hopes we can bring some new, fun equipment to the park. We will be looking to arrange some events to raise money for the park and hope you will support our efforts. Anyone wishing to make a monetary donation can make this to the Playing Field Committee, contact Rachel Whinyates on 01406 381286 or see our facebook group ‘Cowbit Playing Field’
Stay safe this Summer

Belief and Unbelief
Dear Friends, I was talking recently with a friend who claims to be an atheist. As happens frequently when we meet up, I tried to tell her that in reality she is not an atheist, but a follower of Christ. My reasons for this centre
on the fact that my friend believes quite strongly in trying to help others and in trying to make the world a better place. She doesn’t believe that we are here merely to get all we can and enjoy ourselves all we can. I keep telling her that the heart of Jesus’ teaching is love of our neighbour: seeking to love our neighbours as we love ourselves or, to put it another way, treating others as we would like them to treat us. I am sure that there are many people like my friend, people who, although inspired with a belief that we are here to try to make the world better, do not think that this belief has a divine source. To be fair to my friend, she is prepared to acknowledge that her belief is rooted in the English culture in which she grew up, a culture in which Jesus’ teachings about loving our neighbours was emphasized. And she is prepared to admit that Jesus was a good human being. What she finds difficult is to say that Jesus was both God and man. My response to this is to say that regarding Jesus as just another human being, albeit a very good one, takes away Jesus’ tremendous power to strengthen us, to recreate us, and to assure us that death and despair do not have the final say. Viewing Jesus as merely another human being does not provide me with the solid base I need for living my life in hope, for human beings, however good, are inevitably flawed: they can and do let us down. And I know of no human capable of bringing life out of nothingness. And loving one’s neighbour is often a hard thing to do, so hard as sometimes to appear impossible. In fact I believe that loving some neighbours and, especially, forgiving them is impossible without the help of God. However good our intentions may be, it is often impossible for us to carry them out without the help that only God can give. I can’t of course prove that God exists, but neither can an atheist prove that God does not exist. In the final analysis, the claims of believer and non-believer alike are based on faith. The good news is that God wants to give us faith. If what I have written above makes sense to you, I think that could be God’s way of saying something to you, of inviting you to look to him for both help and purpose in your life. God speaks to us in many and varied ways. And his purpose in speaking to us is always to give us a new and better life by letting us know that as we try to make this world better, we are sharing in his purpose for all creation, a purpose aimed at creating a new, peaceful, joyful, and fulfilling life for all. Yours in Christ, Charles Brown Priest for Cowbit and Weston Hills

Why do Designer Bags cost so much and why it’s wrong to buy fakes? Us Ladies always find the cash for a new bag. Most of us would love a genuine designer bag such as Chanel or Michael Kors BUT the price of a designer bag today is astronomical despite the current economic climate. The same goes for the same label’s clothes and shoes. Some bags can cost more than a new kitchen / small flat / car.
Why are these so-called designer goods SO expensive? There are a number of reasons, such as;
Demand for a particular exotic reptile skin Handcrafted detailing Organic cotton / other eco-friendly materials Limited supply Kudos / peer pressure
BOTTEGA VENETA is one of the most coveted and expensive brands. Its CABAT tote bag, for example, was handcrafted using a variety of materials from lamb’s leather to more exotic skins, costing from £1,500 to £50,000. Fine strips are painstakingly handwoven by one of only a few craftspeople in the world who have mastered the skill “Intrecciato”, a bespoke method to this brand. For most of us, these sort of prices are way outside of our reach, therefore the alternative is either to shop on the high street or to purchase a copy / fake / similar style. Those that do purchase copy bags are most probably not aware of why we shouldn’t. Copyright; brand owners will prosecute if you are caught purchasing / using a fake designer bag. Retailers who stock these goods will also be prosecuted, including online shops such as eBay and eBid. Counterfeiting is so profitable that a lot of mafias are moving away from drugs as the risk is virtually zero & the margins are extremely high. Do you want to buy goods where the working conditions are awful and the workers are paid pennies? Many fakes are dangerous to the consumer & polluting the environment as they contain banned substances & cheap materials such as chromium. In addition, cheap untested materials may be used e.g. lenses in sunglasses may not provide any eye protection. Counterfeited brands include Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Hermes, Chanel, Prada and Burberry covering a wide range of products from clothing to jewellery, watches & bags. The brand owners are fighting back with anti-counterfeiting measures such as holograms, tags & packaging quirks. Salvatore Ferragamo insert a passive radio-frequency identification tag in each pair of shoes, Chanel uses a hologram with unique serial number and Hermes use a “mouline linen thread coated in beeswax” for all the stitching in their bags. Identifying fake goods is getting more difficult as the quality can be extremely good. With a lot of genuine production moving to China, the factories have been known to manufacture unauthorised product to more-or-less the same standard using the same materials. Jane Hickford

The Parish Council AGM was held on 8th May. Richard Pratt and Chris Dicks were elected to serve for another year as Chairman and Vice-Chairman. The seat left vacant after the resignation of Dan Bunder has been advertised and anyone wishing to be co-opted should contact the Clerk before the July meeting. The Annual Return and Statement of Governance for the year to 31st March 2017 (the Parish Council’s accounts) were approved after being audited by Andrew Short. He has undertaken the internal audit for a number of years and gives his time voluntarily for which the Parish Council is grateful. A big thank you to those who took part in the Annual Litter pick on Saturday 6th May – the weather wasn’t ideal and as a result turn out was disappointing. Sadly, as in other years, a staggering amount (and variety) of rubbish was collected. The Parish Council’s SID (speed indicating device) has been up on High Road, Weston and recorded 10574 vehicles with 11% travelling in excess of the 30 mph limit. The average speed recorded was 39 mph, the maximum speed recorded being 70 mph. There is no Parish Council meeting planned for June so the next one will take place on Monday 3rd July at Weston Village Hall. There is always a 15 minute Open Forum at the start of the meeting for any member of the public to have their say regarding matters which affect them.

Elloe Oracle Elloe Oracle is a community newsletter, run by a
volunteer committee of local people.
Competitively-priced advertising is available in sizes ranging from full page right down to
‘classified’. It is an extremely cost-effective way
of getting your message to local people. As well
as conventional advertising we are also able to
offer sponsorship opportunities, our ‘featured ad’
opportunity, and we can also arrange for your ‘flyers’ to be delivered with the magazine, again
at very competitive cost. As well as the printed
magazine we have our own Facebook page and Twitter account, and the whole magazine is avail-
able online so it can be seen by people outside
our delivery area . To find out more about the many commercial
