Dates to Remember
Dear Parents,
Well done Cowan students and community. On Monday, our Knockout Soccer team travelled to Bathurst where they met and played against the students from Tullamore Central School. It was an exciting match that had play going from end to end and Cowan were victorious in the end, winning the match 2-nil. It was nice to win but what made the day more special was the support of many family members at the ground and also being able to present an amazing amount of goods and cash donated by the Cowan community to help the Tullamore community as they deal with the drought. Thank you to anyone who donated and it was much appreciated by the students and teachers of Tullamore. Everyone had a great time in what was a great experience for both schools. We are now into the 4th Round and we will know our next opponents in about 3 weeks.
We are up to the final two weeks of our Winter PSSA AFL competition. Last week we played against Warrawee in the Juniors and had a great win 36–8. Sam was player of the match. The Seniors had a BYE. Our matches today and next Friday are back at Rofe Park.
Last Tuesday, all our students continued the Book Week celebrations by going down to Brooklyn Public School and watching an excellent performance around the theme of Find Your Treasure. Next Tuesday we will be holding our final Book Week event with the parade and class performances. The Cowan community is invited along from 9.00am for the assembly and parade.
On Friday, 31st August, the Zone Athletics Carnival will be held at Narrabeen. The final school event, High Jump, will be held next week and then all ribbons will be handed out at next week’s assembly as well as the announcement of our Champion House.

The results of our School Carnival, except High Jump, are published later in the newsletter. Children who have been selected for the Zone Carnival will be taking home their notes next Tuesday. Good luck to all our representatives.
Just reminding you all that enrolments are open for 2019. It was great to see some people attend our Information Morning on Wednesday so please keep getting the message out there about this wonderful school and all the great learning and activities that occur.
Until next time.

Book Week Performance— Treasure Hunt Last week Cowan students had the thrill of joining with Brooklyn PS for a Book Week theatrical performance entitled 'Treasure Hunt'.
Travelling by train is always an adventure, and Cowan students represented their school impeccably on public transport. Once at Brooklyn school, students and teachers were welcomed by the Perform Education presenters and stars of the show, Meg and Jonathan.
In the Treasure Hunt performance the pair played the roles of Jess and George, two very unlikely companions who are thrown together in their quest for different treasures. Through storybooks, songs and interactive dance, students were able to share in Jess and George's adventures. They explored the issues of sustainability and our relationship with the natural environment as well as celebrating how books & reading can create understanding and bring people of different backgrounds together. …..continued Page 2

Term 3 Costing… This went home with students last week. However, a revised Term 3 Costing went home today including the late addition of Scope IT (PSSA children will receive their note on Monday). Scope IT lessons started today. We ask our families to pay these as soon as possible, or contact the school for a payment plan.
New School Website… Our new website is currently, and will be for the near future, being brought up to date with all our necessary information, calendar dates, news and gallery pages, Some of our well-loved features, like the monthly calendar, are currently non-existent. We hope that the Dept of Ed will include this in the near future. We appreciate your patience in seeing our new website complete.
Tissues… Thank you to our families who have already supplied tissues. We are running low on our supplies. Therefore, we once again ask our families to provide a box of tissues, especially if you have not done so already this year. This does not need to be an expensive brand, just the ‘no frills’ variety is fine. These can be left at the school office. Thank you for your cooperation.

Positive Behaviour Focus...
Week 5:
RESPECT : LISTEN and FOLLOW teacher’s instructions
Week 6:
RESPONSIBILITY : Be SAFE and CAREFUL
RESPECT
RESPONSIBILITY
RESPECT—LISTEN and FOLLOW
teacher’s instructions :
To listen you need to look at the
person speaking and focus on what
they are saying. Visualise doing the
task or following the steps
communicated. This makes it easier
to follow the instructions when needed.
RESPONSIBILITY—Be SAFE & CAREFUL:
In the classroom—walking, pushing chairs under tables, holding scissors correctly,
picking things up off the floor.
In the playground—wearing a hat, no running, no poking with sticks, taking turns with
equipment, taking care of others especially when they’re hurt, sitting while eating.
