Outbreaks & Clusters

Key Points (Week 24 2021) (week ending June 19th)

Aggregate data on 93 outbreaks were reported to HPSC by regional Departments of Public Health for

week 24 2021

• No new nursing home/community hospital/long-stay unit/residential institution/acute hospital outbreaks

• 2 among the Irish traveller community

• 15 outbreaks, involving 60 linked cases, associated with post-primary schools

• 14 outbreaks, involving 58 linked cases, associated with primary schools

• 1 outbreak, involving 2 linked cases, associated with a special education facility

• Two outbreaks were reported in childcare facilities with seven confirmed linked cases

• One outbreak among third-level students

• 14 workplace outbreaks were reported; including two in the food production and processing sector, one

in a meat/poultry processing facility, three in the construction sector and eight in other workplaces

• 15 outbreaks associated with social gathering were reported with 63 confirmed linked cases

Key Points (Week 25 2021) (to Friday 25th June)

• Data on 46 outbreaks were reported to HPSC by regional Departments of Public Health for week 25

2021 to Friday 25/06/2021

• There was one new nursing home outbreak reported with two linked cases

• No new community hospital/long-stay unit outbreaks were reported

• There was one new acute hospital outbreak reported with two linked cases

• No new residential institution outbreak was reported

• 14 outbreaks, involving 88 linked cases, were associated with primary schools

• Four outbreaks were reported in childcare facilities with 25 confirmed linked cases

• Eight workplace outbreaks were reported; including one in the food production and processing sector,

and seven in other workplaces

• Four outbreaks associated with social gatherings were reported with 13 confirmed linked cases

• There were four pub outbreaks with 61 confirmed linked cases

• There were three restaurant/café outbreaks with eight confirmed linked cases

• The remaining five outbreaks were across numerous other locations: retail outlet (n=2), transport (n=1),

religious/other ceremony (n=1), and community outbreaks (n=1)

Test and Trace update

• From 21st June-27th June, the total number of close contacts was 9,535, compared with 9,195 the

previous week, meaning the daily average has increased by 4% from 1,314 to 1,362 per day.

• From 21st - 27th of June, of those tested with close contacts, the average number of close contacts per

case was 3.8.

• From the 20th – 26th of June there were c.71,050 community referrals, this figure includes 18,894 walk-in referrals, 4,785 international travel referrals and 12,936 referrals from the self-referral portal. The remainder of referrals are from GP and close contacts.

• From the 13th – 19th of June to the 20th – 26th June, there is a week on week difference of:

· Walk-in referrals have increased by 40%· International travel referrals have increased by 23%· Referrals from the self-referral portal have increased by 38%

Overall, this weekly community total has increased by c.26% since the same time-period last week (13th –19th June; c.56,387 total referrals).
