COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

By the end ofthis presentation, the participant should be able to:

COVID-19 Vaccination Program

Specific Objectives

To launch a national vaccination program against COVID-19

To provide free and effective, high quality vaccines against SARS-CoV-2, prioritizing those most-at-risk and most vulnerable populations

General ObjectiveTo save lives and mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

Vaccine Benefits● prevent symptomatic infection● prevent severe infection ● prevent transmission

Herd ImmunityAt least 70% of population needs to be vaccinated.

1. Why do we need to get vaccinated?

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

Herd Immunity- indirect protection

from infection conferred to a susceptible individuals when a sufficiently large proportion of immune individuals exist in a population

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

There is currently a limited supply of vaccines all over the world. In fact,

80% of global stocks have been bought by high income countries

already. Because no single company can provide for vaccines for 110

million of us, the government is in talks with 7 manufacturers:

AstraZeneca, Gamaleya, Janssen, Moderna, Novavax, Pfizer , Sinovac

Rest assured that only vaccines that have received Philippine FDA’s

Emergency Use Authorization or EUA will be bought and used. The

EUA provides the assurance that it has been thoroughly evaluated and

recommended by our various independent expert panels.

2. Which vaccines will we use?

INDEPENDENT

EXPERTS

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

Should the government allow clinical trials? Should

we consider it?

Philippine FDA

Is it safe, efficacious?Do benefits outweigh the risks?

Vaccines Expert Panel

(VEP)

National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (NITAG)

How should it be delivered to the people?

National Adverse Events Following Immunization Committee (NAEFIC)

If there are adverse events, is it caused by the vaccine?

Health Technology Assessment Council (HTAC)

Should we buy it?

Who are the Expert Groups and what do they do?

● Is it safe and

efficacious?

● Do benefits

outweigh the

risks?

Vaccine Development & Approval

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

During a pandemic, an assessment

is made if emergency use of a

vaccine is justified.

Two questions need to be answered:

Is it safe and

efficacious?

Do benefits

outweigh the

risks?

Vaccine Deployment & Approval

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

Emergency Use Authorization

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

Conditions for an EUA issuance (EO No. 121)

● based on evidence, vaccine may be effective against COVID-19

● known and potential benefits outweighs the known and potential risks

● No adequate, approved and available alternative to the vaccine, and

● Undertaking to complete the vaccine development process

Post Authorization Monitoring

● EUA holder required to complete pharmacovigilance obligations

Valid only during the Emergency due to COVID-19 and may be revoked

3. How do I ensure that

the vaccines I get are

authentic

Only COVID-19 vaccines with PhilippineFDA certification and are transported understrict cold chain conditions are able toprovide full protection for those who arevaccinated.

3: Remaining Senior Citizens

Other essential workers outside health,

education, social welfare sectors (e.g.

agriculture, food industry, transportation,

tourism)

4: Remaining Indigent Population

Socio-demographic groups at significantly

higher risk other than Senior Citizens and

Indigent Population (e.g. Persons Deprived of

Liberty, Persons with Disability, Filipinos living

in high-density areas)

5: Uniformed personnel (PNP, AFP,

PCG, BFP, CAFGU) Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs)

Other Remaining Workforce

Note: Other target groups to be considered will depend on the development of scientific evidences are: Persons with comorbidities (due to their higher risk), disadvantaged populations (e.g. women & children, pregnant and lactating women). These groups can be ranked higher in the priority.

Vaccination Procedure

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

The national government is working in partnership with our

local governments to get the vaccines to you.

Your local government unit will arrange for the registration

and scheduling of vaccination as well as identifying

vaccination sites. Please wait for specific instructions and

announcements from your mayor or governor.

6. When and where will I get

vaccinated?

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

Critical Planning Steps done by DOH in coordination with Local Government Units (LGUs)

6. Identify gaps in cold chain capacity

3. Identify the number of

supervisors, vaccination

teams, AEFI/AESI composite

teams and other personnel

needed and available for the

vaccination campaign

2. Identify the implementing

units in you areas, and the

number of vaccination

posts/sites, and plot in an

operational spot map

1.Determine the number

of eligible population for

COVID-19 vaccination in

your area

4. Assign teams and eligible populationto an implementing unit / vaccination post

5. Estimate the vaccine requirement and supplies needed

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

Can a person choose the brand of vaccine that will be given to him/ her?

No, the National Government will vaccinate based on theprioritization and scheduled delivery of the vaccines. If a certainPhilippine FDA-approved brand will be delivered first, it willautomatically be given to the first priority eligible group.

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

Can a person decline the vaccination?

Yes, anyone may opt to decline the vaccination by signing a waiver. This willforfeit his/her slot according to the prioritization of eligible groups and theperson shall be scheduled after all the priority population has beenvaccinated.

*Make sure you obtain accurate information from the right sources so you arecorrectly advised and can make an informed decision before declining vaccination.

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

Will a person receive the same brand for both doses?

Yes, the DOH is coordinating with Local Government Units toensure allocation of adequate doses of the same PhilippineFDA-approved vaccine brand for those getting vaccinated.

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

I previously recovered from COVID-19, do I still need to get vaccinated?

Yes, it is recommended that you get vaccinated even ifyou have already recovered from COVID-19.

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

Do I need to get tested before getting vaccinated?

No, you do not need to get tested before or aftergetting the vaccine.

8. What do I do during

vaccination?

Go to your assigned vaccination site as scheduled.Wear your face mask, face shield, and stay at least1 meter away from others.

Sign the informed consent signifying you are1) aware of the benefits and risks of the vaccine, and 2) willing to get vaccinated.

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

On the day of vaccination

Healthcare workers will monitor you for 30 minutes to 1hour before you can go home for any unusual symptomsor adverse events.

All vaccinated Filipinos will be monitored for 12 monthsafter they get their shot

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFIs) will be monitored strictly by health professionals.

● If hospitalization is needed, existing PhilHealth case rates

for AEFIs will be used

● During masterlisting and profiling, PhilHealth will provide

registration desks on-site

9. What do I do after

vaccination?

USUAL symptoms may be experienced, includingpain, redness, and swelling on injection site, as wellas flu-like symptoms. This are normal signs that yourbody is building up protection.

If discomfort increases after 24 hours, or yourUNUSUAL symptoms are worrying you, you canreport to the nearest health authority for appropriatemanagement.

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

What to do after vaccination?

The health authorities will investigate if thesymptoms / adverse event you experienced is causedby the vaccine or just mere coincidence.

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

Most COVID-19 vaccines offer protection after twodoses. Complete the second dose even if youexperience some usual symptoms, unless ahealthcare worker tells you not to get a second shot.

What to do after vaccination?

10. After vaccination,

can I go back to not

wearing face masks and

shields?

No, the COVID-19 vaccine is just an additional tool to protectourselves from COVID-19. Even after vaccination, you needto practice the minimum public health standards to providecontinued protection for yourself and your family.

This way, we can be safer from the threats of COVID-19transmission and its variants.

COVID-19 VACCINE PROGRAM 10 MUST KNOWS for EVERYONE

We protect our families by● getting ourselves vaccinated● getting our immediate families

vaccinated● ecommending the vaccine to

others outside of our immediate families

How do we continuously protect our families?
