KEY CHANGES IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19 & REMOTE LEARNING

Context: In response to the NSW Government’s recommended social distancing practices, Manilla Central School has adopted the phased approach to school attendance. As a result, students have engaged in remote learning from hardcopy booklets, with supplementary support offered through technology-based platforms such as Zoom and Google Classroom.

Formal Examination Period: The Semester One examination period has also been cancelled.

Adjusted Nature of Assessment Tasks: The planned assessment structure for Stage 4 has been adjusted to ensure accessibility and equality in completing assessment tasks. In-class tasks, including topic tests, skill-tests and class projects have been changed in response to remote learning and varied student attendance patterns. Students have instead been issued with project-based tasks, such as portfolios, projects and research tasks. Structured marking rubrics and detailed task instructions have been included to ensure clarity around what is required.

Issuing of Assessment Tasks: Assessment tasks have been issued during Remote Learning by registered post. Students do not have to sign for the receipt of assessment task notifications. Instead the date of post will be recorded by office staff.

Submission of Completed Assessment Tasks: Due dates for assessment tasks have been specified on individual assessment notifications. The mode of submission has also been outlined within the ‘Task Instructions’ section of the assessment notification.

Revised Assessment Schedules: The assessment schedules in the back section of this booklet have been revised to reflect the change in nature of assessment tasks, as well as a reduced number of assessment tasks in many subjects. Changes have also been reflected in the overall assessment calendar, and updated on the school website.

Reporting:

The Semester One student reports will not include an allocated RoSA A-E Grade or allocated marks. Report comments will instead comment on:

• Classwork and engagement during Term 1

• The completion of work packages during the Remote Learning

• The submission of updated assessment tasks Non-Completion of Assessment Tasks or Issued Remote Learning Activities

COVID-19 is not an excuse for students to leave allocated classwork or assessment tasks incomplete. Failure to submit these tasks for marking will be addressed according to normal N Warning procedures, in accordance with advice from NESA.
