Cover - Robert & Lois Renner’s 2008 ConvertibleWe are from the Dayton, Ohio area. Bob has been a CPA since 1963 and was a corporate finance/administration officer for several companies. We moved a dozen times and have owned 9 homes, the latest on the Sammamish Plateau. Our new 2008 convertible is the third one for Bob. He bought a wrecked one year old 1958 convertible for $800 and rebuilt it in time to sell it and his 57 Chevrolet convert with “modified” drive train before we were married. After three children in private schools K-college we had a 1998 coupe. Bob is only “allowed” one toy at a time so when we went to Taiwan to design and have our 53’

motor yacht (“The Big Toy”) built the Corvette had to go. We sold the boat in 2005, our Los Altos, California house in March, 2006 and moved to this area May, 2006 near our daughter’s family. It is too cold near Philadelphia where our son lives, and we wanted to get out of California while the housing prices were at the high point. We are retired and Bob is involved in a winery—Washington Wine Company, LLC—first as a volunteer and now as a part owner. We enjoy the Puget Sound area but usually head to a warmer climate in February for 4-6 weeks. We are also members of the Navy League and support our maritime troops.Since early 2006 Bob had his eye on Corvettes again. After our move, a kitchen remodel and a zillion other things we met Chris Pillings (Lee Johnson Chevrolet) October 17, 2007. Although we negotiated an order, it took until March 7, 2008 (allocation issues) to get the “Next Toy and 3rd Corvette”. Our new toy has the 4LT interior, auto/paddle shift, Z51, dual exhaust mode, etc. It is a kick to drive. We joined the CMCS in February and are looking forward to a number of events.

On Your Marque...Get Set... Go! - President’s Message

Could you believe the weather we had for our last club meeting? Sunny and at least mid 70s. I’m sure the weather contributed to our excellent turnout. The weather also made our first parade of the year a great outing. Other than our banquet, this was the first evening dinner meeting we have had for a while. Judging by the support at this meeting, we will try to do a few more evening meetings this year. After many years of service to the club, Jay Cockrum has asked to be relieved of duties as the club NCRS chair, as they are soon moving to Arizona. NCRS stands for National Corvette Restorers Society. Corvettes 1993 (15 years old) or older are eligible. If you are involved with restoration of our hobby, and would be willing to keep the club informed about NCRS activities, I would appreciate your support. Please contact me. We are approaching the first anniversary of club sponsorship by Lee Johnson family of dealers. This includes Lee Johnson Chevrolet, Mazda, Kia and also Speedway Chevrolet in Monroe. It is important that the staff of these dealerships recognize the value of their sponsorship. I ask that you remember to mention your membership in CMCS when you visit their sales or service departments and thank them for their sponsorship. Just the simple statement that you are a member of the Corvette Marque Club of Seattle will reinforce the buying power of our membership. We must remember that the sponsorship is a business decision on their part and they must see a return on that investment to continue sponsorship. So toot our club horn whenever you do business with any of our sponsors. Cheryal, our activity chair, with the help of a couple of assistants, has already scheduled club meetings thru August. In addition there are at least three club member sponsored show & shines already scheduled. Also check out the NWACC (www.nwacconline.com) web site for other Northwest Corvette club activities. In short, there are a multitude of activities for you to consider this Spring and Summer. Lastly,

remember to put Seattle in September on your schedule and even get your registration mailed. We have brought back the popular boat/dinner cruise as part of the event. Due to a change requested by Argosy, we now have a dinner catered by the Metropolitan Grill and the normal cost of an Argosy dinner cruise is equal to the entry fee for the entire event. So you basically get the rest of the event for free. Such a deal.See you on the road.

Vette Rides for Veteransby Gary Main

On Saturday, June 14th, 2008 we’ve been invited to join our friends in the Glass Odyssey Corvette Club on their next Vette Rides for Veterans event at the Veterans Home at Retsil near Port Orchard, WA. This is our chance to give back a little to these Veterans who gave so much when duty called. (NOTE: The June CMCS general membership meeting is on this same date. If you can’t make this Vette Rides for Vets event, there will be a similar opportunity on Sept 6, 2008. Details on that one will be published closer to the Sept date.)

Here’s the plan: We’ll gather for lunch at a restaurant in Port Orchard (time & location yet to be determined but will be posted on the CMCS website and in the June OYM.) Then we will tour to the Veterans Home quadrangle, arriving at 1:30 pm. We’ll park the cars so the Veterans can walk around and enjoy them for a bit then we’ll give rides for all who want to go. There’s a brief course laid out that provides about a 10-15 min. ride. The route can be varied longer or shorter to accommodate the desires of our honored passengers. Maps will be provided. The course features some time along the waterfront, some time on straight country roads and, of course, some curves. The Veterans really get a charge out of blasting down the road and feeling real Corvette power. We’ll drive responsibly, of course, but the whole point of this exercise is to provide a bit of enjoyment to these Veterans and maybe help them to relive, if only briefly, a bit of their youth. We’re told that some of the residents were smiling for weeks after last year’s event. Our job this year is to refresh those smiles. Everybody wins on this one! We’ll make it a fund raiser, too. Please bring any good clothes, books, videos, snack items, magazines or Corvette related stuff you no longer need that the Veterans might enjoy or have use for. Gift cards (like Target or Wal-Mart) and/or cash works, too! Let’s outdo the Ferrari Club, the Harley-Davidson Club and the Porsche Club! After everyone has had as many rides as they want, we’ll dash back to Lake Sammamish St. Park in Issaquah just in time for the 6 pm departure of the CMCS 50’s Tour. Two winning events in the same day. It doesn’t get much better than that... For host club (GOCC) info: Byron Faber, (360) 638-1235 or

The Membership TachometerKayla Main

Our April general meeting was held at Shawn O’Donnell’s Old Irish Pub with a traditional and very tasty Irish buffet followed by the added surprise of a magic show. We had a great turnout of members plus some new folks checking us out, who later became members, bringing our total to 258. Our numbers went down from last month because we have begun our new membership year. Some do not renew, or renew late, causing a decrease in total members.

Mark & Shelda Orlando have a 2003 Torch Red coupe and live in the Redmond area. Mark told a great story about turning 50 and getting a 50th Anniversary edition from his wife and daughter. We know they are ready to get involved and have fun as Shelda volunteered to help make brownies for the Ronald McDonald house charity event.

Kelly Green has a 2008 Crystal Red coupe and lives in the Woodinvillearea. He’s a sports car lover and has had a Pontiac Firebird & Trans-am, a

Triumph Spitfire and an Austin Healey Sprite. He likes to autocross and hasan interest in School Daze. To support these interests he is a software

engineer/manager. We’ll meet Lynne, his wife, at a later date.

Jim & Betty Presten live in the city of Sammamish and drive a 2003 Anniversary Red coupe. After a Museum Delivery they spent a couple months taking the “long way” home via the southern route. They also have a ‘40 Chevy coupe that Jim bought when he was 15 (you can do the math!) that was then powered by a ‘58 Corvette engine with 6 Stromberg 97’s, an Isky-5 cycle cam and Vertex mag. Bet that brings back the memories for some of you. The ‘40 now sits on an ‘85 Corvette running gear and is powered by an ‘06 LS6. They drove it on an 8,000 mile trip a couple years ago.

Tim & Kim Quenzer live in Monroe and are now the proud ownersof a triple black 2008 convertible thanks to Joe Harvey at our

sponsor, Speedway Chevrolet. This is the 3rd vette they haveowned since 1979. Seems that Tim took the 07 Black coupe that

they’d only had since March 2007 in to Speedway to ask Joe’sopinion regarding a bra vs. clear vinyl for rock chip protection. Thatseemed harmless enough at the time. Joe, of course, had an opinion. The short version of a along and entertaining story is that the blackcoupe stayed at Speedway and the ‘08 convertible went home with

Tim. Got a Corvette question? Ask Joe. He has the right answer!

Welcome

CMCS General Meeting Minutesby Mona Cox for Jean Dager

April 12, 2008After eating a tasty Irish meal of corned beef and cabbage at Shawn O'Donnell's Old Irish Pub in Everett, and being entertained (and thoroughly baffled) by magician Shawn O'Donnell, President Kevin Jewell called the general meeting to order at 7:28 p.m.Board Members present were Gary Main, David Ormerod,

Kevin Jewell, Dennis Montgomery, Cheryal Heppner and Chris vonRavensberg. Absent was Jean Dager.Kevin called Cheryal Heppner, Mike Dail and Jim McDonnell to the front and presented them with CMCS bags, to thank them for their hard work last year on behalf of the club. These people were not present at the March meeting where other officers and committee chairs received their bags.Vice President's Report: No report.Secretary's Report: The minutes were accepted as published.Treasurer's Report: Treasurer Dennis Montgomery reported the club's bank balances. Dennis noted that he'll have “the books” with him at every meeting. If anyone has any questions regarding our finances, ask him. Dennis then had Gary Main explain the Shoreline Community College GM ASEP program, which is headed by CMCS member Scott Main. CMCS funds a scholarship to the ASEP program; the funds come from the club's half of the 50/50 proceeds. Dennis gave Gary a check for $823. Gary will pass the check on to Scott.Membership: Kayla Main introduced 7 people, who told us about themselves and their cars. They were Mark and Shelda Orlando with a 2003 Torch Red coupe, Kelly Green with a 2008 Crystal Red coupe, Jim and Betty Presten with a 2003 Anniversary Red coupe, and Tim and Kim Quenzer with a 2008 Triple Black roadster. Kayla received a nomination and a second to vote in these people as CMCS members. The vote passed unanimously. Membership now stands at 258. Guests at the meeting were Rick and Debbie (owners of 2 Corvettes), friends of Chris and Leslie vonRavensberg.Activities: Cheryal Heppner and several others noted the following upcoming activities:

• April 25: Show and Drags at Evergreen Raceway: firefighters/EMTs vs law enforcement. All proceeds go to RID Domestic Violence. CMCS members can also “show” their cars for a small fee.

• May 10: general membership meeting at the Washington Wine Company in Woodinville. The meeting is at 10:30 a.m., followed by a lunch including bratwurst and potato salad, with wine tasting to follow. Non-

alcoholic beverages will also be provided. Case discounts will be offered that day.

• May 17: Anacortes Waterfront Festival. Majestic Glass hosts a Corvette only Show and Shine that day. There's also an open class car show on May 18.

• May 18: Planning meeting for Mill Creek Show and Shine and XXX All Corvette Show and Burger Bash at Dennis and Lorrie Montgomery's house at 1:00 p.m. Contact Lorrie in advance, and plan to bring a dish to share with others for lunch.

• May 23 through 25: Big Sky Event in Bozeman, Montana. Show and Shine, autocross, road rally, live music, and two banquets. We leave on the 22nd and play tourist on the way. Contact Tim Cox if you're interested in attending.

• June 1: Lee Johnson Chevrolet is celebrating its 75th anniversary, and is hosting an All Corvette Show and Shine. Lee Johnson will be providing food. We'll need a few volunteers on the day of the show. Contact David Ormerod if you can help.

• June 14: Tour and general membership meeting at the Buzz Inn in Snohomish.

• June 18: Gene Kinnunen and others leaving to attend the Corvettes at Lake Tahoe event. Contact Gene if you're interested in joining them.

• July 4: Member Appreciation Lunch and general membership meeting at Perrigo Park in Redmond. The club will furnish lunch for CMCS members, but if you have a favorite dish you'd like to share, you're welcome to bring it. There will also be a chili cookoff. Contact Al Dager if you want to enter the cookoff.

• July 2: School Daze Ground School. A must for drivers new to Pacific Raceways, and a good idea for all other participants, too.

• July 10: School Daze at Pacific Raceways. Rick Milsow showed an aerial photo of PR. Roadsters must have a hard top or a roll bar.

• July 12: Mill Creek Show and Shine. Last year there were 137 cars, and we're hoping for at least that many this year!

• July 20: Anacortes Open Class Car Show, hosted by Majestic Glass.• August 12: Tour and general membership meeting at Speedway Chevrolet

in Monroe.• August 24: XXX All Corvette Show and Burger Bash in Issaquah.

Jay Cockrum thanked club members who have helped with prior Mill Creek Show and Shine events. CMCS has a brick on the wall at the National Corvette Museum. Jay then showed us a certificate the club had received. He also has a brick reflecting the 2007 Mill Creek show. The bricks are from the old Flint, Michigan factory.Cheryal Heppner will be sending out a survey asking for feedback (from women) regarding a Women Only Weekend (WOW). Look for it in your e-mail soon.

Chris vonRavensberg noted that a goal is to have 100 people at meetings, consistently. To that end, there will be door prize/raffles at each meeting to encourage attendance. Newsletter: Newsletter Editor Oran Petersen reported that he's calling the May issue the “Renner” issue. Bob Renner's car is on the cover, Bob's wine company is hosting our May general membership meeting, and the company has paid for advertising space. Oran is always looking for great pictures of your cars, along with a bio about you. See your car on the cover of “On Your Marque”!Adopt-A-Highway: Chris vonRavensberg noted that we'll clean our section of I-5 on May 3. Meet at the Metro Bus Barn at 9:00 a.m. Chris and Leslie will have coffee and doughnuts for attendees. Remember, anything you find, you can keep if you wish!Charity: Gary Main (filling in for Marty Cameron) reported that CMCS recently served dessert to the residents at Ronald McDonald House. Our next volunteer night will be May 21. Marty will be purchasing brownie mixes, and needs bakers. Let Marty know if you'd like to bake in advance, or serve at RMH. She'll need 4 or 5 volunteers.National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS): Jay Cockrum told us that there are 15,000 NCRS members nation-wide. You can be an NCRS member if your car is 1993 or older. There's a regional meet in Bend, Oregon in September. You can link to NCRS through the CMCS website.National Corvette Museum (NCM): Wes Holmes mentioned that the museum is a great place to see the heritage of the Corvette. The museum is across the street from the factory. A new option at the museum is a $25 a year e-membership, which is tax deductible. With this membership, you'll receive a 5% discount on all your purchases.Parades: Jim McDonnell reported that the club had 14 cars in the LaConner parade today. Upcoming parades are July 4th in Bothell, July 12 in Redmond (we need 10 cars), the Greenwood Parade and the Torchlight Parade. Contact Jim if you'd like to participate in any or all of this year's parades. Jim also noted that at www.flagcaddy.com you can purchase flags for your car.Northwest Association of Corvette Clubs (NWACC): Tim Cox told us about the following events: Corvettes de Olympia All City Rally on April 20; Classical Glass (Tacoma) 5-Star event, including an autocross, on July 11-13; Rose City (Portland) Classic, including an autocross and track day at Portland International Raceway, on August 1-4. Corvette Marque Club Seattle in September VWe are back in touch. And we hope that you will be too. Our fifth

Seattle in Septemberis

September 12-14, 2008. We think this will be our best SIS ever. We know if you join us again it will be.

What’s New?The Location: The Best Western River’s Edge in Tukwila, Washington is the event hotel this year. It is south of Seattle near the intersection of Interstate 405 and Interstate 5. Interstate 90 is a few miles north. This newly remodeled hotel has new pillowtop beds, plasma televisions, mini fridges and other room amenities. It offers a free breakfast and much more. The event room rate is $92 per night plus tax. (This is $28 lower than our 2006 hotel rate.) Call (425) 226-1812 or (800) 544-9863 to book your reservation now. Mention CMCS or the Corvette Club to get the event rate. Check out the hotel at www.bestwestern.com/southcenter.The Dinner Cruise is Back: Not only is it back, but it is a three-hour cruise departing from Elliott Bay on the Royal Argosy – Argosy’s premier ship. The buffet dinner is prepared by Argosy’s own chef. The food and menu planning are done to the standards of CRI Inc, who own and manage several of Seattle’s finest restaurants, including the Metropolitan Grill and Elliott’s Seafood Restaurant. The menu includes salmon, prime rib, chicken and all the extras, including vegetarian dishes. They are also serving hors d'oeuvres as we board. Have a look at Argosy’s site at www.royalargosy.com. Also, you can leave the driving to us for the evening. We have bus transportation between the hotel and the ship.Lance Buller and Stephanie Porter: Lance, Stephanie and the band will wow you with their musical talents during our cruise. They are well recognized and accomplished artists based in the Seattle area. Lance has played with Bob Marley & Little Anthony. He was associated with the Beach Boys for 24 years. In addition to his trumpet skills, when he and Stephanie combine their voices and magic, it is something you will long remember. Check them out at www.lancebuller.com.

Southcenter Area Show ‘n Shine: We have been fortunate to secure a great and high-visibility location near the hotel and near the state’s largest shopping center. Albert Lee Appliances in Tukwila is the venue for our Saturday morning show, which is a Tukwila Centennial event. Judging is People’s Choice.

What Has Not Changed?Friday Night Reception and Valve Cover Races: Enjoy a CMCS hosted barbecue at the hotel to meet and greet old and new friends. Afterwards are the famous valve cover races. For rules and information about the valve cover races, go to our Web site www.corvettemarqueclub.com and look in the downloads section for the document “Lets Go Valve Cover Racin’ – Rules and More”. As you’ll recall, the participants and the spectators all enjoy this competitive event. Great Drives: The event includes two driving events: The Sleepless in Seattle Tour on Friday night, after the valve cover races and a Saturday afternoon tour, after the Show ‘n Shine. We’ll have you back in time for you to get ready for the Saturday cruise, banquet and entertainment.Sunday Raffles and Awards: We promise to have you on your way by 11am, after the awards presentation and after the drawings for the many raffle prizes. The Price: The price, at $95 per person, has not increased for this event since 2004. By lowering your total cost for two nights at the hotel and for the event by almost $60, you’ll have extra left over for fuel. This weekend extravaganza is exceptional. It is made all the more so by the great folks who come to Corvette events.A Marque Club Welcome: Our club loves to host this event and to share our town with you. We can do that only if you come. You will find the SIS Registration Form at www.CorvetteMarqueClub.com in the Events>CMCS Flyers area. This form can be filled out on your computer and printed with newer Acrobat versions, adding convenience & accuracy. This area also has an SIS Flyer for you to post or hand out to interested Corvette owners.

If you have any questions, contact us at [email protected].
